I have to disagree. Besides the leia poppins and the bs about Rey and Snoke how about when Rose decided to crash into Finn in front of the First Order battalion of troops. How is that even remotely plausible? Theres lije a 5 percent chance of survival and then somehow Finn carried her all the way back to the base? Luke milked an alien. Wow. Yoda struck a tree with a voltaic blast when he was a force ghost. The casino scene was just a bad scene. Rose is an unnecessary character. Rian johnson looks like he purposely **** on JJ Abrams ideas on purpose. Even the scene where Snoke tells Kylo to take off the riduculous mask seems like a shot at JJ. Way too much Poe in the movie and i actually wanted to see more of him after TFA. Luke doesnt use his saber at all and actually called it a laser sword. Then he just dies. He just died. Luke deserved better. My theatre lost about 25 percent by the end of the movie. It was the first showtime in Baltimore so it was a theatre of diehard star wars fans. Not your average moviegoer. But when it was over it was the first Star Wars movie that i went to that when it was over it didnt get any sort of applause. I didnt attend AotC though. Even PM got applause. Its a bad movie. Just look at the RT audience score. And i expect it to drop lower.

Rose did it to save Finns life. Yes she seemed like a wasted character in the overall plot of the movie but she has a reason for doing what she's doing. She lost her sister in one of the bombers that was taking out the star destroyer at the beginning. In the end she teaches us that instead of sacrificing yourself you need to help each other. It's the only way to actually win.

I agree that Luke seemed a little bit wacky, but when you've lived by yourself on an alien island for decades i can imagine you'd go crazy too eventually, and I did cringe at the part where he called it a lazor sword, but he was so fed up with the "jedi" that it didn't come as a surprise that he would insult their name by calling it that. Also Yoda didn't actually create that lightning, he just attracted it to the temple, the storm was already going when he came. He knew Luke wasn't gonna have the guts to burn down everything, so he did it instead.

The casino scene plays into Rose's back story, so in my personal opinion, wasn't that useless. It also gave us the boy at the end that's force sensitive, who may or may not play a big part in the next trilogy.

Also regarding Luke's death, you have to think about what he did, he projected himself hundreds of light years away at least to help the resistance. I'm sure that took a lot out of him. Rey said at the end when he died, it wasn't due to pain or suffering, it was peace of mind that he fulfilled his purpose. He's not completely dead either, he's a force ghost like yoda, anakin, and obi-wan. Mark Hamill even hinted at a return in episode 9.

I think this movie dropped the bomb on a lot of things only to be better explained in the next movie, which I think people appreciate it more when ep 9 explains all of the plotholes that many have issues with in this movie. People need to look at it for what it is and what it tried to do, not what they expected it to be like, that's why so many are disappointed. It didn't stick with the fan theories and did it's own thing. Who knows, maybe snoke isn't actually dead, or Rey's parents really aren't nobodies, and Kylo only said that because that's what Snoke has been feeding him. We still have one more movie in the trilogy which may end up piecing it all together.

I just want to know how the heck you can drop bombs in space when there is no gravity. ;)

As big of a space geek as I am, I'm kind of upset I didn't catch this....

2 things, 1) science 101 anything that has mass will cause a gravitational pull around it. It was dropping on a dreadnought 10+x bigger than the MG-100. 2) It was dropping at almost point blank. The reason behind this is, proton bombs has a very weak self propulsion system. Making it a very risky attack but highly damaging nonetheless.

Oh and here's a lil sumthin sumthin from Rogue One.

I liked the movie, but it did disappoint me. It was far too long, and seemed to take forever just to get anywhere. Then the ending was just kind of meh. Sure, what Luke did was cool, but I feel like there were a lot of missed opportunities that could have been done with him and many of the other characters. It was good, but it's not the great masterpiece and "best Star Wars movie ever" that some people are making it out to be. Far from it.

The same reason why all the spacecrafts and their weapons have sounds in a complete vaccuum. Hollywood.

Im not saying you're wrong. Thats your opinion of what you saw. Heres mine though:

    1) Cannot, in any way, shape or form agree with the idea of "8 will make more sense when you see 9". Thats 2yrs away, and no matter how bad the prequels were, we didnt have to put up with that excuse for any of the preceeding 7 movies.

    2) Rose was completely unnecessary. So too was DJ. If there had to be one then why couldnt Rose just be a Hacker? Replace the stupidly unnecessary Casino Planet with the 2 of them stealthing their way around the ship. Fixed.

    3) They made an absolute mockery of Luke. The guy who during 3 movies over many (lore) years was the most hopeful person, and they turned him into a paranoid twisted version of the character and go one further by completely unnecessarily killing him off. I get why Hamill looked so beaten down by this film, they destroyed a character he loved.

    4) They made Force Ghosts really really confusing for no real reason.

    5) Leias replacement (Hordo?) held back the plan from everyone..... because........ hmmm

    6) Obvious flaw but, Mary Poppins in Space (sigh)

    7) Snoke was SUCH a waste

    8) Rey continues to be waaaay too good at everything. She literally must have the Star Wars equivalent of Gameshark or Action Replay in her pocket and have all cheats on. Theres nothing wrong with a strong female lead, there is when shes OP for no reason in a series which endears its characters by their faults.

JJ set up some interesting future questions and Rian and Disney just threw them all out the window, for no reason, in one movie. And now poor JJs gotta come back and patch it up. Episode 8 was a disappointment because it had everything going for it and went with some terrible, terrible choices.

LET THE PAST DIE. KILL IT IF YOU HAVE TO.

Kylo Ren's quote is exactly what happens in THE LAST JEDI which takes a huge dump on every Star Wars Movie that came before it, even THE FORCE AWAKENS. All that was established in the original Trilogy, and even in the Prequels, was ignored and waved as irrelevant. Every question that THE FORCE AWAKENS established was left unanswered or belittled. Luke Skywalker, an inspirational hero to millions of fans from the original trilogy ends up depicted as a failure, wanting to die, and his sendoff did not do the character justice. The strongest villain (according to Andy Serkis) Supreme Leader Snoke was wasted and used as a simple plot device leaving us not finding out who he was, or where he came from, or how he got there and what his motives were. The heritage of the main protagonist in this new trilogy ends up being whatever. How about the Knights of Ren, nope. Or how about that Captain Phasma, she's going to be the new Boba Fett, nope. It's like J.J. Abrams thought up all these mysterious and intriguing things, but then leaves it up to someone else to figure it all out on the next movie. Then Rian Johnson came and said "nah" I'd rather just kill that guy so i don't have to figure stuff out, and I let her be whoever, because I don't know who she is, and you don't know who she is, so who cares.

Yes the movie has some good but the poor plot, the misplaced humor, and I'm no editor, but they could have easily cut a third off this movie with a single paragraph. If when Po first confronted the admiral about her plan she had simply explained it, Finn's entire storyline could have been cut from the movie and they would have ended in the same place. At this point its all about merchandising and more merchandising. And you know what this is what I think about that...

If a Star Wars movie comes out when WW2 does, guess which movie I’ll be seeing (here’s a hint: no ‘laser swords’ involved) :p

I’d been wondering why I haven’t been excited to see the latest Star Wars movie, after reading this thread, now I know...

On people's issues with TLJ, if you want to, at 9:03 John answers two questions on the subject (there actually pictured in the thumbnail).

My own thoughts on supposed questions not being answered, this is a trilogy series not a two part series. Whatever supposed questions that people think were set up have no need to be answered in the second movie.

As someone who has still not seen the movie, it is getting to be near impossible to avoid spoilers, I'm doing what I can to be informed yet not get spoiled. Back when TFA was released my biggest issue was being in a gathering spot in SWTOR, now there isn't anywhere I can go. Thankfully here I can skim or skip posts that look to be unsafe.

Saw it last night. Plenty of cheesy fan-service moments. Some WTF? issues. It was meant to be a changing of the guard movie, a segue into the new generation of heroes. I enjoyed it anyway.

The theatre was filled to capacity at 5:30 on a weekday. There was applause and cheering going on. It was a good time.

What more of hint did you need than when she sensed when Han was killed?
If people need every little detail explained in detail, there wouldn't be time for anything else

Don't be so quick to dismiss Rey's parents, considering who the source of that information was, as for Snoke, that was genius, POO, you could almost hear him drooling and salivating at the thoughts Darth Emo was feeding him, and then to find out that DeeEee was talking about him was pure brilliance, the only thing that would have made it better, again POO, would have been if the Red Clown closest to him had noticed the saber moving and trying to get his attention (oh, you mentioned that bit about Rey's parents in another post)

Did anyone notice that the Legendary Jedi Bibles were onboard the Falcon at the end? So much for drunk ghost Yoda burning down the tree...

What happened with Luke makes sense: yes, he spent years believing in the Jedi and their ways, only to find out it was a load of bantha-doodoo, they were no more 'enlightened' than anyone else, and no more free of corruption than anyone else either, the time of the Jedi was over, time for a new order to arise, who better than his daughter to lead the way?

People claim that Phasma was to be the new Fett, hello? Does no one remember what happened to him in RotJ? Plus, he was supposed to be The Big Badass as well, turned out to be just some joker in a fancy suit

Was a little confused at the end for awhile, about how Han's golden dice just vanished after Ren picked them, butt then remembered that Luke was never there in person in the first place (his beard should have tipped me off earlier than it did)

I think there are many fans tearing this movie apart for many stupid reasons (gravity bombs, Leia Superman, Phasma ie nitpicky stuff). That is not to say the movie is without problems, I too think the movie kind of sucked as a whole, but nitpicking every little thing is just stupid.

In my view, the biggest problem this new trilogy has is that it doesnt have a unifying vision - a written script for the whole trilogy, instead we get sudden shifts in storytelling from one episode to another because each director wants to put his own mark on it. JJ started something (good or bad, up to everyone to judge) only to have Rian trash most of that because it defies expectations. Watching Ep.8 and Ep.9 back to back, the story doesnt make a whole lot of sense, so any criticism the movie receives on this address is absolutely spot on. I dont really care about Rey's parent being a bunch of drunks, in fact I really like the idea (though I read something yesterday that JJ might have a few things to say about that in ep.9, so we'll see if she remains a nobody or not). Killing off Snoke didn't bother me too. Poe, Finn and Rose were pretty underdeveloped in the movie, yeah they did a bunch of things but it all seemed kind of meh.

Luke loosing hope and then doing nothing about it did bother me the most. I think up until the point where he admits to Rey that for a second he thought of killing Kylo his story was redeemable, but from that point on it went completely downhill for me. I think if Rian wanted to show that even the biggest heroes can fail and that failure is the biggest teacher, then either I failed to see how Luke overcame that and redeemed himself, or Rian did a pretty ****** up job showing that to me. So in my view Luke's story concluded in a very underwhelming way. I can see why people would be upset/disappointed about this.

Kylo was the only interesting character for me, I think Adam Driver did a fantastic job with the character and his story is pretty much the only thing that Im curious about at this point. Maybe Rey has a chance to be redeemed next episode, but I kinda doubt it considering who's at the helm of Lucasfilm.

somehow, it is realy interesting to see how bold they pissed off most if not all at once...
except professional critics maybe. allmost sure most of them were corrupt or fake.
it could have been an artistic portrayal about the deconstruction of expectations.
making the audience emotional with a strong message would be nice drama.
however: they disapointed with no message at all... director had no intentions.
he just made a movie that has nothing to tell. except "**** you, thats why".
everything can happen to anyone for no reason and there is nothing that matters.
this concept doesn't fit into an universe were hope, engagement and willpower ruled.
i don't know how they continue the storyline, maybe they had a plan with the next episode.
it can't get worse and will be a masterpiece in comparison to this. not sure if i am still interested
