    Episode 9 news, heee'sss baaaccckkkk.

So JJ Abrams will be directing Ep9 (no it wont be a RotJ remake) and they moved the release date to Dec 20 1019, which is bad news for Wonder Woman 2.

The first 7 minutes is on this news, so you don have to watch the whole thing if you don't want to.

2 months and about 3 weeks to go now for the premiere of The Last Jedi. So gonna see it.

Think we may need a general SW thread?.

  11. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

So, the 'sequel' is actually a 'prequel'? o_O
  12. Ankh_Legacy Devoted Player

No, this will be a sequel to the Thrawn book released earlier this year. That book told Thrawn's backstory, all of which took place prior to the original trilogy, the sequel will also be in the Imperial Empire time period.

Though you most likely don't like this the Heir to the Empire book series (that introduced Thrawn) is Legends now and is not canon and thus doesn't exist. Thankfully Lucasfilm reintroduced Thrawn into canon in Rebels followed by a book written by the man who created him, Timothy Zahn.
  13. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

Still a prequel, seeing how Thrawn did not show up until after Vader and Palps were killed

Lucasfilm is tripe: they pick and choose what is canon now, they knew they would not get away with leaving out Thrawn so they brought him back for the kiddies kartoon krap

They will probably never re-introduce Insane Icearse though, she was fun :(

Again, no. Yes Thrawn's first appearance to us was in the Heir book series but his real story was during the years of the Empire. And also again that book series does not exist in the SW narrative now, so you cant prequel what doesn't exist.

That has always been the intention of Lucasfilms (and the hope of all fans) to delve into the vast amount of Legends information. As you know there was a lot of good characters, places and stories in the old EU that shined above all the other mess. Those good things will be looked at to see if they can fit into the canon, so some fan favorites could make a return.

Oh and of course they pick and choose what is canon, it's their property and they are designing it's narrative. And they can get away with anything they want, again they own the property not the fans. We as fans just get to sit back and enjoy (hopefully) what they make.
  15. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

No, they chose to make it canon once, then they decided to scrub everything (no more Jacen and Jaina, no more Anakin Solo, no more moon-splatted Chewie) to make "The Force Awakens" and Darth Emo (not to be confused with Emo Jedi)

Think of it this way: it spares us from the bloated mess that was the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
  17. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

Yuuzhan Vong was better than "A New Hope: 2.0"

Actually, no they didn't. George Lucas stated on more than one occasion that only what he did (movies, then Clone Wars cartoon) was canon.

Everything in the old EU was never canon to start with but the fans just believed it was. Sadly Lucas didn't do anything to stop fans from thinking that way. He actually made things worse by making a department to classify all the EU stories into that tier system, which unfortunately used the word canon. Basically he sat on his position of what was truly canon while raking in all the cash from the EU.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm and the SW property, they cleaned up the mess that Lucas aloud to happen (thankfully), by putting down definitively (in actions not just words) what is canon. As such they can now make a coherent universe, allowing them to move forward to give us new SW products without the weight of the old EU mess on their backs.

And as I said earlier they are using the Legends as a source for possible future projects, so that stuff isn't completely gone.
  19. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

What 'mess'? The old EU was more coherent, and linked, than DCEU

Don't pull that **** about blaming the fans, all those books where Officially Licensed, if that doesn't say 'Official Canon' then don't know what is (can still remember a story where Leia was looking for her mother amongst the Night Sisters, and coming across a race that was saved by Vader {not Orphan Annie} thus earning the title of "Lady Vader")

Not saying that Lucas didn't have the right to change things later, or even House of Mouse, but that doesn't stop what they did slash are doing as complete ****

I have no problems re-watching Force Awakens, and books by Timothy Zahn and Karen Traviss in the Star Wars universe will get repeated readings.

I can't say the same kind of thing about re-reading the Vong saga. It was more than a little on the depressing side, the overall story was stretched out too long and it basically played out as the Star Wars universe vs. Cobra-La. When it came time to sort through old books and decide on what to keep and what to remove from my personal library, I had no issues removing the Vong books.
