Is it time to say goodbye to PS3 yet???

As a fair question, if the game runs well enough for them on the PS3 and they don't have the funds to get a PS4, why should they feel the need to upgrade?

My PC is on the older side, and more than once while shopping in electronics stores I'll find myself taking a look at a new machine out of curiosity's sake. At the very least a new PC would provide me with a better processor to run games and such with. But my current machine still works well and runs DCUO just fine, so I don't feel the need to buy a new PC. It's not difficult to imagine some PS3 users feeling the same way.

If the PS3 was 'working fine', then why are there so many problems with it and 'issues' that need to be 'looked at'?
Again, not saying they have to get rid of their PS3 if they upgraded, heck, still have both the PSOne and PS2

That's more of a general statement, I was referring to individual experiences.

If there's a player out there using the PS3 for playing DCUO and they are not running into problems, why should they look at upgrading? On top of that, if they aren't having problems and either can't or don't want to spend money on a system upgrade, why should they?

So, we are keeping the PS3 server for individuals? o_O That sounds like a viable business plan

    Oh just stop.

The PS3 does work fine, in fact there are less issues with the PS3 in this game than with the PC or PS4. ( per the search box on bug tracker; 213 for PS3, 493 for PS4 and 753 for the PC)

It seems you either just can't or won't accept that the PS3 still has a 2 to 1 ratio of players worldwide and that 2:1 ratio involves all the games DBG owns not just DCUO.

Dropping support for the PS3 will not help DBG " move forward" nor will it "improve DCUO" when the company loses 2 dollars for every 1 dollar gained from a PS4.

After the daily shutdown today, which server was it that was being looked at because of problems? o_O

So you're saying the PC hasn't had any issues of the same sort?
The PS4 hasn't had the same issues before?

That the only platform that has had any issues at all is the PS3?

You're saying that the bug tracker site is giving out false info on the number of issues involving the PC or the PS4?
'per the search box on bug tracker; 213 for PS3, 493 for PS4 and 753 for the PC'
Picking 1 issue that was quickly resolved this morning that every platform has dealt with?

    You're grasping at straws now.

    I'm done.

If there are enough of them to justify the costs, I would imagine so. They are a business after all. And considering we haven't had PS3 support dropped, It'd be fair to say that there's enough individuals to justify the costs.

It hasn't. In fact, those threads have been posted for so long, this was how we used to respond...

How do any of us know how much money the ps3 is bringing in? Imo the reason they havent dropped it yet is because they need every player and dollar they can get ;) But idk if thats the truth. Just a guess is all.

Probably an accurate guess considering their legendary sub count pales in comparison to more big name MMOs

We could say goodbye to PS3 today and our experience on PS4 and PC will still be the same. No point in having strong systems when the engine in place cannot utilise it to its potential.

Once the PS3 is dropped from the game and still we'll have the same issues I might change my signature quote to: "So we drop the PS3. Can we start talking about the engine? Oh wait, now is the PC holding us back? Oh wait, no, it's the PS4 turn! Or is it the XBOX? Because is never the engine! Never!"

I'm pretty sure no one ever will buy a PS4 just to play one repetitive simple dumbed down 7 year old game that has turned into a casino last year on top. To buy a new console there is more incentive needed. Like Top Spin 5, Gran Turismo Sport, Red Dead Redemption 2 etc. and those game need to be hits with good reviews. A console that comes with not-so-top games like Star Wars Battlefront - still all bugged up and will not get fixed, instead EA expects people to sink money in part II hahahaha :D - which get overly hyped but are all mainly craps. I'd include DCUO but it does not get hyped :D

Just admiring the hardware is what PC users do. I know that, have my i7s here ready to play Star Citizen but all I have are alpha and beta tests. Oh, and sometimes DCUO when I carry one of my PC alts up or use a horde of those alts because I want my main enter a raid map solo. Didn't do that for 6 months or more though. So I basically admire my topgrade hardware, wait for one game and use that equipment to post in forums. I'd never buy a console to do just that. Even though that console is much much cheaper, if I buy a console for basically just 1 game that game has to be the utmost killer in its genre. Like back then, when I bought the first PlayStation and Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo Sport on the other hand? Will maybe sell some consoles for Sony, but will IMO disappoint at least 40% of the game series' fanbase.

But now I have to fire up my two PS4 and grind a lil STO :p

Actually even that older Unreal engine DCUO is using can do more. The core problem is having one main game client that gets ported. Specialised programming could make the game more fun on every platform it currently supports, even the PS3. SOE decided against that way, and Daybrek kept that decision up.

Another thing everyone's forgetting is what Mepps expressed as the DCUO motto (and it kind of makes sense anyway). If it doesn't bring in more revenue than it costs, it ain't happening. So even if they dropped the PS3, why would they spend tons and tons of man hours upgrading the graphics, UI, etc.? Sure, it's nice for us players, but does someone really base their decision to sub or not sub on the way the UI looks?

honestly this back and forth has gone on so long now ill just say the obvious...it is time to retire the ps4 yet...and any pc/device over 3yrs...when do i get to preorder dcuo 2!?!?
  20. TITAN ephemeral Loyal Player

basically it would be making several games at once that just happened to look and play identical...it would be a monumental task catering to every devices quircks and limits...
