The other way to balance the use of mouse and controller is to have the pc gamers use a controller for the ps4 servers and if the ps4 players to have a keyboard and mouse. Just imagine how much shorter some if this thread could have been if we wernt focusing on controlls where the amount of behind the scenes work is masive for making this cross platform work. Give them a good enough reason to do it and they might do the work.

I find the patching excuse to be rather weak, if it takes a bit longer for it to go through on the PS4, then hold off on patching the pc untl you can sync it up. Its not rocket science.

If it's true that updates would be a problem. Lets be honest here. What would you prefer? Non stop patches quickly? Or to play with a massive community at a moment notice, at any time of the day, with patches occurring less often?

Because so far I think I'd prefer to play with thousands of people all day long rather than barely getting to play with a thousand with just PC.

SOE has to understand that most people, are console peasants. And those of us that use PCs, are lacking in number, even worse with this game because this game requires pretty powerful computers to play at a comfortable level.

dude. i hooked up my ps4 controller and downloaded a profiler app to make my ironsight/fire buttons work together for ps4 and i thought it was the worst gosh darned thing ive ever experienced lol... im looking forward to downloading this onto my ps4 and trying it out though soon as it drops! :D

i think they should allow us to use our ps2 accounts on ps4's ps2... in all respectiveness... at least the beneficial part... no character migration.

    thanks

yea our future is doomed for the new generation... these people will be leading our nations in the future... hows that for food for thought?

I would not mind having cross play but concerning PC always having "superior aiming" which is true on the ground i.e(infantry, turrets, etc) and console having "aim-assist" which is true on the ground but in vehicles have the upper edge with analog sticks. I want to pose the question "why not turn aim-assist off"( please understand I know that the patching on the platforms may never be the same this is addressing the disadvantage console players would be at). After reading through at least 4 pages of the thread most of the arguments have either said M/K(mouse/Keyboard) will wreck console players or aim-assist would give console a unfair advantage/make things easier for console players.
No one has bothered to think about well..." oh..console can't compete with PC without aim-assist" well have you accounted for adaptability among console players . To those who have supposedly tested PC vs Console HOW DID YOU TEST IT did you take a "pro" console player and "pro" PC player and play a cross-platform FPS or did YOU take the players and play on a PC or vise-versa and play on a console. Did you take a PC game have a PC player and give the console player use controller but was the console player allotted time to play the game he/she was being tested on. The reason behind this so the console player has time to adjust to no aim-assist then there could be a fair test could be done. Since a majority of console players use aim-assist for there to be testing there needs to be time so the console player can compete.
Then to get this out of the way aim-assist differs from game to game if you play COD:Ghost on PS4 there is a heavy presence of aim-assist to where you can see it lock onto an enemy while if you play BF4 on PS4 it feels like aim-assist is not there or lets say GTA5 where there is enemy locking where it is literally point and shoot turn that off and everyone aim will go nuts. I would not think of aim-assist as something needed for console players only that it has always been there and console players have gotten used to that. I prefer console over my PC just because I have more friends on console than PC. Since I have played console I usually turn off aim-assist and am usually better for it you just need time to adapt. Even if a console player is fighting a PC player CQ what will be the difference between them who ever shot first will usually win the fight , Mid-range it gets fuzzy but PC may win due to their "precision aiming" , and at long ranges it should not really matter if you are sniping on either platform it is quite easy.
Vehicle Combat Ground: A bit foggy seeing that that different factions would provide different advantages VS console player would probably decimate since the MagRider can hover allowing for the analog sticks to come into play. Air Combat: Console would win this due to the ease of maneuverability with the analog sticks. So for point aim shoot gameplay PC wins for vehicle gameplay console would win.

Ahaha YES no aim hacking trash to kill this game like the **** did on the pc thank you so much for not making this cross platform best thing you could of ever done am sure the community will grow like crazy with players like me who are sick of the skill less aim hacking that kills every FPS game on the pc

having the ps4/pc/both servers is probably the best way to go... im waiting for ps4 release because my computer barely runs it...

As much fun as it would be to have them on the PC servers.

Once upon a time M$ considered it with one of their games (one of the many Halo games) they got some of the best Xbox players out their onto a specialised server and once the auto aim assists got turned off, they got put against some PC players who then repeatedly owned them. Were they the best of the best PC players, no, they were just whoever was in the office that day...

Hence the separation, without auto aim assists (aimbots in any other word) console players will have a very hard time, with aimbots well it goes the other way until pc players get them as well.

How many people willingly use an Xbox controller for an FPS game with their PC and use all the time rather than just for vehicle controls?

I'm just going to say that a cross platform system of servers for pc and ps4 would've again made Planetside 2 relevant. I was so excited to hear that the game was coming to ps4. I do not own a console nor will I ever. The game would have had new life breathed into it but not so now. Really how could you pass up the chance to save your dying game. There are no words for how ******* awesome it would've been to play with both crowds but WOW. No big surprise that SOE made a decision that would ruin the potential of a game irreparably. R.I.P. PS2's future.
  11. swiftrevoir

I still can't believe it. Is this decision final? Really????
  12. SpartanZero

I've a fair amount of friends that are console only players who would love to play Planetside2 with the the PC users. Regardless of the hardware handicap, it's about them being able to work with friends regardless of the platform they play on.
  13. swiftrevoir

Okay maybe I got a bit excited and exaggerated some but still, cross platform is the way to go. I just got out of a battle with hundreds of people on either side so there are still people. It would be that much more exciting with the crapload of consolers fighting by our sides.

This video actually surfaced recently, courtesy of our very own Joshino. He plugs in an XBox 360 controller and starts up PS2. The results are... interesting. Definitely a good argument for why PS4 players should not be in the same universe as PC players.

Keep in mind of course that Joshino normally has an infantry KDR of 1.9. :p

Ok. 1 very very simple reason why pc and ps4 can't play together, aiming.

On a console you use a tiny joystick which makes it hard to aim so they would get absolutely slaughtered by pc players OR they get aim-assist and would slaugther pc people as they wouldn' need to aim properly, just point slightly in our direction and get hits. If they made it so only ps4 people with a mouse and keyboard could play with pc people I'd be fine with that though.

That'd be like having the paralympic basketball team versus the regular Olympic team, it'd probably be a curbstomp.

Not trying to be harsh, just the reality is the control schemes are quite different. As others have said, the mouse + keyboard is just easier, faster and more accurate to use compared to a console controller. Even the best controller players would be struggling to make up for the slow responses of the controller.

It'd mean PS4 Planetside 2 would empty out rather quickly.

I could definitely get behind bringing PS2 out on the other consoles and integrating the play there. But that might be levels of cooperation that console companies couldn't even fathom.

The PC-side of PS2 will benefit from the added resources brought in by the PS4 community. The PS4 community would shrink significantly if SOE was to do cross-platforming, as many console players would feel deterred from playing the game. And no, you can't argue that the PS4 players should instead use MKB if they want to compete, because they didn't buy a console to use MKB.

It seems obvious enough, but there shouldn't really be a problem with having one or two cross-platform servers so long as platform-exclusive ones are retained and implemented alongside them. Crossplay servers could include a disclaimer of some sort to inform players, and beyond that, it'd be possible to at least partially overcome the limitations of a controller through aim assists and subtle handicaps on these types of servers. It probably wouldn't be much of a hassle from the developer's perspective, and it'd satisfy the demographic that wants crossplay between both platforms.

I'unno. Seems like a sensible compromise to me, anyway.

Ps4 players should have an option to play with PC players but not the other way around, that way they know that they will have a disadvantage and if they want to they can. Although maybe they can carry items across servers?
