How complex should the Landmark design tools be?

The best end product revolves around the tools that we have available. If they are too simple then we will end up with simple creations. Let the tools have the ability to start in 'simple' mode and when the creators are comfortable they can switch it to the more complex modes and you can get more out of the client.

Power is great, and I love simplicity. Marry the two, and you've got a winner.

But, if that's not possible, Moar Powr, please. You might also want to consider a tiered approach. The tip of the pyramid represents simpler, coarser tools, and as these are used by players, tips are provided to introduce more powerful tools. The beveling tool mentioned in the EQN livestream for instance. Make it easy enough so that anyone can log in, and stack blocks of mortared stones on top of blocks of mortared stone. From that, introduce more complex tools.

Anyone else have a bugged thread here? I am not seeing my first post, and all I do see is two edited posts, but none of the other conversation here.

I hope it is flexible enough to be useful, but not too complicated.

I think the more complex the tools are, the more awesome things people will be able to create.
    Complexity is no issue!

Is this forum bugged or did they remove my question? I would like to know if the game is going to be open world or will it have any kind of instanced content?

As long as the learning curve to start isn't too steep, why not have a crazy assortment of options!?

Yes give us every option possible. You will be shocked on what players can create!

I'm not familiar with Minecraft, so I don't feel comfortable using the poll, however I think it should be designed so that nearly anyone can pick it up and create some basic things with it in a short period of time without having to read up on tutorial sites, but with enough options and/or details so that advanced users can build nearly whatever they can imagine, that's within the tools' capabilities.

This could be done by using a basic and advanced version of the design tools, but I think having it as one tool set would work better as players can start to experiment more as they get familiar with how things work, without necessarily feeling overwhelmed like some advanced design tools can be to a beginner.

The stronger the tools, the better. However, a 'simple' mode for less experienced designers would be nice.

I'd like to see something simple for people just starting out with the tools, but with more advanced options that more experienced users can access. What comes to mind is EQ2's Options window. You have the basic options available, but there's that "advanced" button you can access for all the fine tuning. Something like that, if that makes any sense.

Complex but easy to use. Able to detail down to color, shape, etc. as if you are drawing it into the game itself.

Just watch what we can make.... RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

I'm more interesting in building something useful than something artistic. Making it more complex could be nice in knowing how well-built structures and forts are.

Intuitive and user-friendly is always good for getting people started, but I know as a hobbyist designer I can feel very stifled very quickly if that simplicity doesn't open up, and while I'm all for finding creative workarounds I've definitely abandoned a few projects in the past due to hitting a brick wall and not being able to create something the way I envisioned it. So I say give us all the power there is, and let us loose!

Hopefully there is a script language. If so it would be cool to introduce it syntax as early as possible.

As complex as the Aurora tool set.

I would love tools that would enable me to go in and change as many minute additions as the software can possibly support. A proper pallet in which great cities can be carved out of a barren waste, where sculptures can be made truly unique, where art and patterns can be made and traded. Give a player the option to have comically difficult tools, and if the end would allow something truly remarkable, many players will learn to use those tools.

I would love to learn and study in the world, and from those studies and experience the ability to recreate. If my lockpicking skillset is maxed, should I not be able to create a lock that even I could barely pick? If a mage learns some form of magical protection that can be applied to walls for durability, could they not spend days carving and purifying their homes walls of their hall to gain that advantage?

To that end, perhaps a scripted element as well as graphical manipulation, influenced by a characters skill level in various fields?

Would like to see basic default functionality for quickly developing, but with "advanced" menu for being able to go deeper in the design options.

Most important to me is good help/tutorials etc....
