It's been a chronic issue for at least 6-8 months, and a recurrent issue for the past—what, 7-8 years?
please disable the first log in server. earlier today and after this happened last time i noticed that server was skipped allowing me to log in.
The servers are bad in general. But the login servers are in significantly worse shape than the gaming servers properly speaking. It's a broken infrastructure.
@Rebelde - DON'T ZONE!. Hopefully, you are in in OF, you might get a burnt key out of it. Seriously, Zoning will take you to the crash screen. I'd love to actually see the spaghetti mess of code they must have over at DBG. Things running on my database and domain servers at work aren't even critical, but if one fails (or I yank the plugs out), the backups are online and running seamlessly in under 15 seconds. None of the production machines in the plant even see a glitch. Strange, just looking at it, but the acronym DBG is also used for Debug.... You would think, that as the alarm bells are going off somewhere at DBG, at least a community relations person would be posting on every game board. My current confidence level in Trump is slightly higher than that in Daybreak. Scary.
The most irritating aspect is that in 8 years or more they have not even been able to set up a decent error catching, a message like "cannot connect to the login server" and the possibility to retry or to let the client run till it connects would be a minimum. It is totally unprofessional to have the client crash with a cryptic message when it cannot connect , for sure the message mentions the UPNP protocol but most people don't know about it and there is no reason to crash the client for that. I can totally accept a denial of service issue but a client that crash on connection failure is not acceptable. And there is even worst, sometimes the client may tell you that your user/password pair is wrong while it is simply a connection issue. So well you may end up worrying about your account to be compomised while it is simply the server that is not responding. Instead of fixing such important error they give us ridulous "competitive" races in which groups from raiding guilds will kick anyone else ***. What is the point in having a confrontation between USA basket ball team and the one from a small village in England ? Please spend your human ressources in a way that makes sense.
You know, you are 100% correct. It is a huge security flaw to send clients error messages that point to lines in your own source files, and then name the files and paths to them.... If I ever did that, I would be escorted off the premises, probably after a full cavity search.
I ended up logging my main character off in the proving grounds as friends who left the zone crashed and could not get back on.......Why does this decision give me pause?
Is there a fix for this error or what? This is my first day off since the PG's started and I have to sit here not being able to log in all day.
Again, seriously...It is time to start looking for a new game. Bet they are too scared\embarrassed to to post up\down time and was it scheduled\unscheduled monthly....If I ran my SQL and Oracle servers like this I would be fired.
I wouldn't hold my breath. This has been going on for a LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG time, and they never fix it. It seems that they believe just "Reboot everything" is a cure, but they are 100% clueless about the problem, and apparently have no desire to correct it. They will probably have some lame excuse (they have a big bin, with papers in it, each one with an excuse... Every time there is a problem, they spin the bin, pull a paper, and post it as the resolution), but the problem will stay, and get worse, probably cause crashes over the weekend, or at least as long as the double currency (reward for the last pitiful excuse they had for the, er, EXACT SAME PROBLEM).
WOW! my rat attempted to zone into CloudRat's Travel dojo, and was "waiting on zone server,.." which I figured I would just let sit until it also crashed. nope. received the error: "That zone is currently unavailable" and was dumped back into Fens,... still online and in-game. strange.
