just what we need, more pop ups ... what comes next? Pop ups in EQ for tide laundry detergent? .. no thanks
  2. svann Augur

Auto logoff would catch more people that just went afk without intending afk killing. As such, an automatic penalty is uncalled for. Anyway, bots are FAR larger problem than the imaginary afk player.

LOL... you win the thread for the worst suggestion of all time.
  4. Tucoh Augur

Plz no, i really dont want captchas in EQ, they are seriously annoying in the games ived played with them
  5. svann Augur

Honestly, why are you even concerned about it? The killing would have to be ridiculously slow so its not like its going to upset the economy. If you are bothered that they are taking a camp that you want, here is what you do - ask them if its ok if you kill their mobs. If they dont answer then take it as a yes and just kill their mobs. AFK players dont have camp rights.

I thought really, really hard about it and I still prefer sausage pizza. Tired of turkey here and dreaming of an Italian themed Thanksgiving next year. Who's with me?
  7. Nennius Curmudgeon

Much more seriously. I wish they could find out why the 8 or so other websites I have accessed today had no problems with my attempt to log in (and presumably lots of other folks as well) but the amateurs in charge of THEIR log in servers can't get it right consistently. It's almost as if the Brady Kids decided to run a server farm and got put in charge of things.

"Hey Marcia do you know how to code? No Greg, but I can dance a bit and pretend to sing."

The entire population of Italy, probably ;)

when did i ever say i was okay with afk xp farming..

    never

When you say "as long as people don't get loot for afk farming I see no issue" it implies you are ok with them getting xp unless I am missing something here. Outside of loot and xp what other reason would someone have for afk killing? Doing their slayer while they sleep? Working faction while they sleep? Evolving their tear while they sleep? Yeah I guess there are other reasons why someone might do it for things other than loot or xp but let's be honest nobody who afk kills is turning off auto loot and letting stuff that they could profit from rot and the vast majority of afk people are doing it for loot and/or xp.

It is cheating and people doing it should be banned.

And there clear rules, dont try to twist those to your liking.

The biggest issue is that DBG are inconsistent and when you ask for clarification they refuse to answer.

    E.g.
The EULA says you cannot do anything unless you are at the keyboard.

However, it has been stated, that bards singing while afk is ok.
It has also been stated that the 'swimming into a corner' trick is ok.

    So, which is it ?
Can we do 'stuff' while afk or not ?
  14. svann Augur

You got your answer but you just dont like it.
1 The eula is generic and doesnt cover the dozens of exceptions.
2 Common sense says they arent going to ban you for afk that doesnt gain xp or loot.
If thats a problem then idk what to tell you without being rude about it.
  15. Thraine Augur

well the EULA is generic and vague on purpose, that way they can bust people for things no one has thought of yet and they are completely justified in doing so.

i will say with the new expac on the horizon, be very careful. they banned a ton of players last expac launch for crappy programing on their part .. the programing i doubt has gotten any better so play at your own risk ~ lol

I feel like this doesn't take into consideration people have been doing this since the dawn of gaming. Speed Runners? Almost all cheaters.

I remember back in the Super Nintendo/N64 days I had many friends that looked for exploits in games and tried to figure out ways to "cheat" the game. It wasn't uncommon for there to be gamers who got more of a thrill looking for exploits and secrets than actually playing and enjoying the game.

Some people play games specifically to find ways around "the rules" and walk that thin line between acceptable and unacceptable. Is it really right or wrong to suggest that their way of enjoying the game is incorrect? My opinion is no, it's not. I believe that unless someone is doing something that directly harms another person (or animal) it's really none of our business. It's the socialism mentality that thinks otherwise, they see someone who has something they don't and immediately want to take it from that person or stop them from being able to do it. In most situations they don't care if stopping that person would directly harm them - that's why I have been known to argue with many of the outspoken people on the forums about third party software. I don't agree with a person harming someone else simply because they can't control their emotions.

If you want to "walk that thin line" then you should know and accept that if you go over the line you will take the consequences. If there are no consequences then there is no line.

I disagree. Cheating in a single player game harms no one. Cheating in an MMORPG does or for that matter any game with more than one player. Rules are there for a reason. That is my opinion. We all play the game together and we all agreed to play by the rules. If you get caught cheating you get suspended or banned. I really don't care if some people enjoy cheating and want to claim that is why they play the game or that is what is fun for them. I did not agree to play with cheaters and if I see it I will report it every single time.

Mass cheating in this is largely a response to DBG purposely making the game boring to sell more micro transactions. If you want cheating to go away then this trend needs to stop.
