Even after looking at the summary and again going over ALL the quests and items (much easier to do on my PC) in the expansion zones that would pertain to the established criteria... I still can't find it.
OK, a pretty big hint... Think about how devious and wicked the SOE devs were when the quest's expansion was in-era. What sort of a quest could they dream up which would necessitate the use of an item from all the way back in the Classic era? No more recent equivalent item would do? Also, it has not yet been guessed how this item is obtained in Classic to begin with.
First a summary of what I believe to be true of this. The quest (whatever it is) was expanded to it's present form with the Luclin expansion. Second all of the major land masses and planes of the old world have been eliminated as origin points of this quest. I'm not asking this as a question, just stating what I think is true. If I have any of this wrong somebody please let me know. Not you CV, this isn't the question. Does the quest originate in an ocean zone between the continents?

The item may be obtained in more than one way and more than one place. It can be obtained in the Classic era, so before Velious. One of the other places is the previously-mentioned quest, the zone for which did not exist prior to Velious, so in answer to your question, both yes and no. I don't know how to make it any clearer than that without disclosing the answer.

Yes. I double-checked this before the game started, lest anyone should cry "foul" later on. Where is this obsession with Velious coming from? None of the TLPs are current on Velious right now... No.
Well it's an item obtainable early, that's used in a much later questline, so thought prayer shawl might help to narrow that list of possibilities. Not sure what current TLP expacs have to do with anything. actual new question: Is the item a poison?

Well I'm pretty clueless from the hints. So we know that -It's an item obtainable in classic that is used in a later quest that starts in a zone from Underfoot or earlier -It's an item that has a clicky and is consumable -Zone the quest starts in starts with an A and is a current hotzone, this limits the potential starting zones to either Arcstone or Arthicrex --I've checked every quest in both of those zones and none of them have a consumable clicky item as a quest item. The only two which even use items that would be obtainable in classic are: ---http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3476 ---http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3368 Either I'm missing something obvious (highly probable) or there's something off in the answers somewhere (not probable). I feel like the zone restrictions should make this pretty easy.
Yes, on the item page. Bear in mind that "click" and "clicky" tend to have two separate definitions in the EQ world, with the latter meaning repeated use possible. I answered a previous question saying the item is consumed when it is clicked, hence one use per item. Good question, but no.
