Yes, anyone on Windows 7 is SOL.

End of support for Windows 7 was January 14, 2020

One thing you might look into is the Windows event logs, Application and System. If you can find an error or warning being logged when you try to install/run EQ, it can help point in the right direction if the problem is actually coming from a dll not being found or being the incorrect version or in the incorrect location.

I have had applications that required the VC++ library searching for a specific version which IT assumed would auto install along with the application. What was happening is when the application installer ran the VC++ installer, VC++ found a newer version of itself and would not run, this made the application's installer fail, silently (no alert for the user). The installer did enough to make the application appear installed but nothing worked. I had to dig into other logs to find information that clued in on this and walk backwards to something else already installed brought in the newer version of the VC++ library. I removed the newer VC++ library, installed the tool which could now install the VC++version it was searching for then installed the newer VC++ version so all of the applications could play nice on one machine. I have run into and fixed similar issues with other prerequisite components where the common advice was reinstall or uninstall/reinstall or wipe the machine reinstall Windows then install the software.

Point being, the order things get installed can matter and the locations where things end up can matter and nobody is going to be able to foresee all circumstances. If EQ is trying to run and somewhere in the process they call to something that is not theirs, like DirectX or the VC++ libraries and one of those is not as expected, you could end up with an error or warning in a Windows event log.

Then a few seconds later, crash to desktop. This is logging in from the character select screen.

I renamed my eqclient.ini and repatched, now I am able to log in and even zone without crashing...... for now.

It's weird because I tried that first.

+1 to the Stillmoon temple zoning in bug crashing to desktop
+1 to the blue tint to inventory.

for the inventory i fixed that by reloading my ui (reloading same one over itself), but when i pick up and drop items in inventory, they change color still

Added an image of my broken overseer panel.

    Sussed the image!! :)

I had similar issues. If you grab the link for the image page - go to that page, and right-click the image, you can copy the image address.

Then you can paste that URL into your post (it's weird because it does have the .jpeg on the end, but it works).

Client crashed between server select screen and character select screen without notice.

This is what fixed it. I deleted my test server eqclient.ini and repatched. I can log in and zone now without crashing. As far as WHICH setting, in particular, fixed my crashing upon zoning issue - is still a mystery.

I had that same error on two different computers. One was a clean fresh OS and EQ install.

I was able to fix it.

    I went here....

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160

    I downloaded, then installed vc_redist.x64.exe.

It's worth a try to see if it will fix your problem too.

DBG should just drop support for Windows 7 entirely. I feel badly for the Devs having to deal with that level of broken. Windows 10 is a free upgrade with better performance and security for anyone with a legitimate Windows license.

Ahhhh, so there's the rub! People with bootleg copies of Windows expect a company with limited resources to support their cheapness.

I don't know what causes that specific problem, but it has existed for years and I believe it is caused by something entirely unrelated to this topic. There are several few posts about it if you search for windowed gamma, but there are the usual replies from people who misunderstand the issue and dismiss it because it doesn't impact them, but it still exists. I've personally encountered it on every machine I have ever played EQ with, and I've never found a real solution to it, just some workarounds such as not using multiple displays when playing EQ, or hotkeying the gamma settings.

My particular issue is with the "Increase Window Gamma" option suddenly not working anymore with this update. It was working before the update. I was just explaining afterwards why I needed/relied on that option to be working (Because of the known issue as you've repeated.)
  18. I_Love_My_Bandwidth Mercslayer

Agreed. Windows 11 is even better (IMO) than Windows 10. For those who are on a bootleg OS, get a copy for $26 from g2a. That way, you're all up to date AND legit.

Unfortunately 11 does not work with a lot of hardware that 10 did, and for many upgrading to 11 would necessitate new hardware that was only a couple of years old when 11 came out.

I had the lots-of-extra-blue issue as well as an old issue where the red destination X on my map wouldn't display. I reinstalled the latest Visual C++ redistribution package and everything looks normal again.
