Rebels spoilers ahead, you have been warned.

well, the rebels are basicly religious extremists who terrorize the galaxy with suicide kamikaze actions... just saying...
when did mary sue rey ever failed? she didn't... ever! well, i wouldn't bother her parents being nobodies, but that destroys any explanation of her power level (lifting huge rocks without trainig after beating luke skywalker and kilo ren in a fight)... except maybe bad story writing? well, i guess you can explain everything with "the balance between the force and its dark side", but come one: that's just cheap...!

back to rose and fin: yeah, i guess you shouldn't trust a complete stranger that you meet in a jail. especially when he is a "code breaker" you find in a prison on a casino planet full of the "worst of all people"... seriously: who could have thought how well that would end...

btw: fin and rose didn't know holdos evacuation plan when they left... how would TJ know about it? he couldn't: it was a plothole...

Okay, the Rebels/Resistance say "May the Force be with you" to one another but were not actively led in their efforts by any Jedi (there weren't many Jedi around to lead the Rebels, and Luke exiled himself). They were working towards freedom, peace and justice, not to mention they concentrated their efforts on attacking military installations and avoiding civilian casualties whenever possible. After all, that's why fighters like Saw Gerrera were not exactly on speaking terms with the rest of the Alliance leadership, considering he tended to be too extreme in his methods.

Meanwhile the Empire and First Order were commanded by individuals deeply steeped in their own beliefs in the Force and basically said "IF YOU DON'T DO WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO I SHALL DESTROY YOU!" to everyone they came across. They had no compunctions about subjugating, terrorizing or even slaughtering those who stood against them, regardless of whether they were serving in an opposing military or innocent bystanders and civilians. Entire cities and planets were destroyed in their pursuit of their goals, all without batting an eyelash.

So please, tell me who the religious extremists in the Star Wars universe are again? o_O

As for Rey, why is the possibility of someone coming from out of nowhere (literally in her case, Luke even acknowledged it when she said she was from Jakku LOL) being so strong in the Force such a bizarre concept for some fans to wrap their heads around? There are plenty of real world examples of incredibly gifted people coming out from obscurity, so why is it so difficult to think that may happen in the Star Wars universe when it comes to Force sensitivity and the powers/abilities someone can manifest?

ok, granted: the rebels behave like religious extremist from the east, while the first order behaves like religious extremist in the west of the spectrum... well, i guess i just happen to like the "vilains" more (not just in star wars, other movies too), so i might be biased. it doesn't help that rey is basicly without any trouble (nor training) beating kylo ren (wounded at that time maybe, but had a whole lifetime of jedi training) in her first (!!!) lightsaber duel, then she obliterates luke skywalker (became old and fat, but had over 30 years experience) and then she beats kilo ren again, in a short battle after they killed the knights of ren, wich again were highly trained force users... imagine batman would teleport alone into the hall of doom, bawling every villain out without preparation and not using gadgets, then preceids to destroy the whole complex somehow without any concequences whatsoever and the explenation for it is "because i'm batman!"

imagine your granny would beat the crap out of the klitschdo brothers in a boxing fight and the explanation is "balance"...

Sigh, this isn't what I was hoping for how this thread would go but I guess it was inevitable. Fine then.

By how you have responded so far, I am guessing you only saw TLJ once and though you didn't need to see it more than once to understand it (like some have said), many details can be missed when emotional reactions to big things distracts a person. Which could explain this and many of your other comments.

After escaping from Canto Bight Fin made contact with Poe, to which Poe told him over an open com (basically speakerphone), Holdo's plan with DJ (not TJ) sitting right there listening.

Well she failed with turning Kylo to the light. Luke wasn't really fighting. Batman is not as strong in the Force as Rey clearly is... Why is that a problem? People can be just strong in the Force, do we need to use the Midichlorian counter again? Yoda had a high Midichlorian count, Rey probably has one too. We don't really need an explanation.

But if you really need an explanation, here's one that's only somewhat canonical. The Sith "Rule of Two" that's mentioned in the movies but never explained, states that there can only be Two Sith Lords at a time. Master and Apprentice. In the previous Expanded Universe the rule was instituted by Darth Bane partly to stop in-fighting among the Sith and partly so that the Master could be the sole vessel for the Dark Side. So essentially the Sith believed by limiting their numbers, individuals could have a stronger connection to the Dark side.

So by that non-canonical logic the inverse can be true, with fewer Force users around the stronger the Force will flow through individual Jedi. In this case Rey, or she just has an abnormally high Midichlorian count.

Interesting that Darth Bane and the "Rule of Two" were further canonized by the Clone Wars series, but the in-depth reasons for the rule have not been revealed.

Edit: They did not defeat the Knights of Ren, Kylo & Rey defeated Snoke's Praetorian Guards. They are highly trained fighters with specialized armor and gear but they are not Force users.

Rey has constantly failed left and right but people who have to believe she is a "mary sue" are unable to see that. For the most part she has bumbled her way into and out of the situations she's been in.

Her power level? Oh lets see, how about Anakin, born to a mother without a father (supposedly) and he was possibly more powerful than Yoda. It is so strange how so many "fans" have no clue about how the force manifests. It is the energy/life force of the galaxy, it is in everything and exists in varying degrees within that everything. Living things are born with their level of force connection already in them and very few have a high enough amount to become a force user and can train to become a Jedi or Sith or any of the other force user groups.

The biggest misconception that has been running wild is that you can only use the force through training. The Force is already there, no training is needed to use it, training like in anything just gives you focus and control over what you can do. Broom boy at the end of TLJ shows that much.

As for your comment about the fights with Kilo and Luke, first she did not beat Luke, he was in compete control of that whole thing, even his fall (as it was focused in on) and the only reason it ended that way was because she lost control and brought a lightsaber to a stick fight. He was toying with her all the way, it was just like any movie scene of a master schooling an upstart fighter.

Then there's the Kilo fight in TFA, that has been explained to many times but Rey haters just wont listen. Two factors are at play, one Kilo was getting close to death do to a shot from a well established extremely powerful bowcaster, if it wasn't for his force ability he would have been dead on that bridge. The amount of energy he was using just to keep moving had to be massive, then you had a fight with Fin before fighting Rey.

Two, people ignore this little piece of info. Rey has been fighting for most of her life (she is self taught of course but so is Luke (an extra fact people ignore)), every part of her life has been a battle and because of it she is in peak physical shape making her more than capable of at least standing a chance with Kilo. You then add in her natural connection to the force, which can act on instinct even if you don't know it's there.

I was gonna post as soon as you made the thread saying that you are about to start a flame war. Everything on the internet has devolved in to anti vs pro (draw the lines where you like). Discourse is......challenging at the moment to say this least.

Flame war over a fictional space opera is one of the funniest kind of flame war. Another funny thing is whining about "I'll never watch them ever!" yet proceeds to watch when they premier, read news about it and go on internet forums fuming about, a fictional, space opera.

That about sums my feelings as well.

I'm 45-years-old. I grew-up on Star Wars. Even read a vast majority of the EU (now Legends) and GM'ed the West End Games Star Wars d6 table-top RPG weekly for 10+ years (even long after WEG folded shop).

Heck, I even gave BioWare subscription for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I tolerated the Prequels. When Disney first bought the Lucas empire, I thought it would be a good thing. They owned Marvel, after all, and the MCU is amazing.

Then I saw Episode 7. Cautiously, I saw Rogue One. Sadly, I have not seen Episode 8, nor do I intend to view any further Disney owned Star Wars films or even TV shows.

I even tried reading the new books, and couldn't get through Aftermath. The writing was absolutely atrocious.

LOL. Alright, joking aside, let's not convert the thread into a war of words because of the new trilogy. People either love it or hate it. And even though I am on the latter, the love for the lore will not change. Whether it be the past movies, current tv shows like REBELS, or the expanded universe (now known as LEGENDS) I'm sure there are somethings people didn't like in those either. So let's agree to disagree.

So, going back on topic, with the recent news of Toys R Us stores closing, I went to several TRU stores because I was curious to what items were on markdown and I got to say Star Wars has its own section dedicated to SW merch but the thing is it appears the items are not selling because the store I went to people were buying other items leaving near empty shelves but the SW aisle seems to be fully stocked. I personally can't complain because rummaging through the SW items I found a Jaina Solo Black series figure :) and I was giddy
