JUST IN: PPA nerfed!

    VS faction trait in PS2 has pretty much always been "inconsistency", we've got the most varied arsenal of stuff, not all of it is good, but there's some definite gems in there. Once upon a time maybe accuracy and mobility were their thing, but it's changed so much that they have weapons all over the place. That's not really a complaint though, I'd hate to be limited to having to have a shotgun on everything like the NC.

    With all that said though I'm going to enjoy seeing live with armour columns firing a screen of ESF tearing balls up at dive bombers, who needs accuracy when you have 20 of them?

    I'd love to see differentiation, even if it is essentially the same thing. Like Flashes looking different for different empires, or Lightnings, or even Liberators and Galaxies.

    I'd love hover flashes but it's never going to happen. It could be a tiny magrider with an open cockpit, but then we'd have the "It can climb the mountains" complaints, even though in my experience I can get Sunderers into more places than my Mags

    As I said, it only needs to look different, as far as I'm concerned, everything else can be exactly the same.

    Actually, AV weapons of the VS MAX are quite good performer at their intended task. You could argue they are not THE best but they are a very solid second at killing vehicles. If someone has the right to complain here, than it is TR.

    I think it's interesting that I see more TR using pounders as a long range AI weapon than I do using them to kill tanks, I think maybe the AI potential of them needs toning down a little, as well as or instead buffing the AV potential.

    How recently did you check stats? Vortex and Fractures are carbon copy of each other in terms of performance. Pounders are lagging behind Comets in vehicle kills, but are twice as good against infantry. In fact, you can erase Fractures and TR will still be better than VS, performance wise, by Pounders alone.

    Or to make it short, you can combine the performance of Comets and Vortex and it won't reach Pounders.

    The data are from the last month, taken at Oracle of Death. If you look at vKPH and vKPU you will find out that Fractures/Pounders are the last ones, Ravens/Falcons are the best with Vortexes/Comets being mostly only slightly below NC ones. The only one exception is the left Vortex which performs as bad as left Fracture.

    Sure, Pounders and Ravens are too good at AI compared to VS guns but AI is by no means an "intended task" of MAX AV weapons, wouldn't you agree? And they both are actually worse performers at AI than VS AI guns. And yes, Pounders and Ravens shall both be tuned down a bit regarding the AI potential. But this doesn't make the VS MAX the worst MAX overall.

    So having the weapons that perform the worst overall does not make it the worst performing MAX overall. Interesting line of thinking.

    Mind, being not the best overall and being the worst overall are two completely different things.

    Wasn't it Nov 13 when they buffed the pounders so they velocity doesn't fall off so fast and every TR treated it as an AI weapon then a few weeks later they patched it out reducing their splash damage against infantry. I don't think they've touched the pounders afer that patch

    But talking about it, the only reason why pounders are used as AI is because the alternative AI weapon to TR MAX are terrible.

    The only reason I'm using pounders at all is to dispatch of enemy MAX units. It's the only weapon that gives me a chance to win against shotguns MAXes in 'lab fights.

    Why exactly are you using KPH and KPH only metric for AV weapons? Anni has the worst KPH of all rocket launcher, is it the worst overall rocket launcher because of it?

    Because besides the AV effectiveness, equally, if not more important is the overall effectiveness. Lets say that tomorrow bursters got buffed to be insane infantry killers. Would we just look at how good they are at killing ESF, or we'd look at the overall effectiveness of the weapon?

    The original implementation of the Phoenix was nerfed within a week, not because it was murdering vehicles, but because it was sniping infantry better than infiltrators could.

    So because you are interesting in the overall effectiveness of the AV weapons you let the performance of these weapon against vehicles completely fall under the table. Logic?

    And Pounders are by no means insanely infantry killers, they are just the best at it from all the MAX AV weaponry. Blueshifts are almost double as good at AI, for example.

    So, shall we look at the AV performance of Pounders of shall we not?

    I'm up for improving the Pounders ability vs vehicles, assuming the anti-infantry capability gets a considerable hit. I'm also up for improving Marauders for the Prowler, assuming the anti-infanty capability of the Prowler's main cannon gets a considerable hit.

    You can't have an all rounder be also specialised best as well. Pounders are already too powerful as they are now.

    This is the point, VS MAX is not overall worst MAX, it is "just" overshadowed in some situation by NC or by TR MAX while being better than NC or TR in other situation. It can do everything MAX should do and is a solid second or top performer at each task. The only one thing VS MAX can't do is killing infantry at very long range where only Ravens are somewhat usable. But even here VS is not in any worse state than TR.

    The VS MAX is on an equal footing with the NC & TR MAXes in their AI weaponry. The NC MAX is superior AV platform with the AV weapons and the TR MAX is superior AI/anti-MAX platform with the AV weapons. The VS MAX is either last or second to last in any role that involves the AV weapons. Therefore, and taking everything into account, it is obvious that the VS MAX is indeed the weakest of the three.

    VS MAX is as effective at killing vehicles in CQC and long-range as NC MAX but is better at killing vehicles at long range than TR MAX.
    VS MAX is as effective at AI in CQC as NC MAX (while trading the sustainability for stopping power) and is better at it than TR MAX.
    VS MAX is bad at killing infantry with AV weapons where TR shines in CQC while sucking at range and NC "shines" at range and is doing a bit better than VS MAX in CQC.

    So... no, not the worst one of the bunch, not at all. Actually, the only one thing NC MAX is really doing better is very long ranged AI. And the only one thing which TR is not doing worse is CQC AI using AV guns.
