I HATE Bad Gunners

Something to be said for the gunner staying in and watching over while the driver repairs... but then we all know there's only one right way to do anything.

I often see libs just sitting in warpgate spamming for gunners. I never hop in, because I know I'm not good... at all. On the other hand, I never will improve without practice.

If you don't want a gunner, lock it.
If you want a gunner, be happy you get one. Not looking to burst any bubbles but no one has a monopoly on craft in PS2, no matter how in love with themselves they are.

J.K Simmons, Hugh Laurie, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, R Lee Ermey and John Cleese are my heroes (or have created character I admire greatly)

I'm not as picky with tanks. A non-engineers gets a little more slack.

Libs demand an extra rep tool. No acceptions there.

Only in certain cases to I care about the class(s) in my other veh.

If you don't reload the secondary before you leave my tank, you've just made an enemy for life :S

I would rather my secondary gunner stay on the lookout, ready to return fire than to hop out as an engineer and help repair.

I love nothing more than to see two helpless enemy engineers with their repair tool out unable to defend themselves. Free certs!

At least the walker can still do damage. Most of my Kobalt gunners would rather fire at tanks than infantry. Funny thing though, I still gun gunner assist exp if the tank dies. I don't know if it game is mocking me or pitying me. Worst part is that my sunderer's other gun is a walker, yet few people switch to it when its the better choice.

I hate it when Harassers drive off with all the C4 I was storing in their trunk.

"Hey, can I get a lift? There's a tank behind those rocks over there I need to deliver C4 to..."
<Get booted out of the harrasser>
"Can I at least store my my C4 here? I'll just place it on your hood to show you what I need to transport...hey why are you driving off? Ah! My C4!"
    <Thinking for a bit>
"Maybe I can radio him to bring back my C4...oh crap, that wasn't a radio, that was the detonator... Oh well, guess I need to get more C4 from the store. Maybe pick up some chips and soda while I'm at it."

The OP is right, though I generally don't experience this sort of behaviour much.
...because I always give other people a wide berth unless they're smart enough to spot-request for a ride.

Why do I not like gunners most of the time?
Because they always blindly open fire in the middle of the most incredibly dangerous situations. Sneaking up on a Vanguard, only 80 or so metres away? Start blasting at the prowling Liberator! Great, now the Vanguard knows we're here and the Liberator is coming to kill us, as well as God-knows what else. Sitting to one side, letting a convoy of tanks roll past? Shoot the first tank that comes into view! Because there's no way that the other four tanks are going to retalia-...oh.

Okay, mistakes happen, right? Yes, they do. And people learn from their mistakes, right? Sometimes. But PS2 is a big game, filled with thousands of different players. Your gunner will make the same mistakes over and over and over again, because you'll always have a different one. You can't trust any of them not to make those mistakes.

Which is why as a general rule I consider the following: If I receive a spot-request, that means the person has substantial knowledge to actually be able to locate and use the request in a timely manner, and therefore probably understands enough fundamentals to get by without too much difficulty. Usually the main reason for death after that point is me flipping the damn tank.

And in the end the name of the game is to have fun. It's about YOU having fun. It's not a happy friendly universe of padded walls where everyone wins and gets a trophy for participating. It's not about handholding and being good to thy neighbour. It's about doing what you want to do without someone dragging you down. We'll be nice and maybe offer you some cookies when we want to, but that's not what we play the game for. This is one of the things that differentiates PS2 from most other MMOs - there's actually very little reason to actually be good to people out in the wide open world, because it is so likely to negatively impact your experience. There are opportunities in some games that are completely squandered if you drag a bad player along, it is true, but in PS2 the entire game is that opportunity.

    Does this sound awful? Yes.

    Is it true?

As someone who has fully certed out a Party Bus and a Proxy Canguard, I can relate very well.

The only solution to bad random gunners is having access to good gunners, from your friends list or outfit.

For me, a decent gunner does not need to have good aim, they just need to have a minimal amount of awareness to shoot in the right direction. A bad gunner is someone who fails to look at the cluster of infantry or the tank in our face because he's busy spinning his gun, shooting at an ESF 200 meters away, or doing something else completely boneheaded. I've had to ram Viper Lightnings to death with the back end of my sundy because my Fury gunners were too busy shooting at the MBT 300 meters away.

The best solution for me is to simply kick the gunner. Bad gunners are as much a threat to your survival as the enemy shooting at you. When I get gunners that fail to meet a certain level of competence, they get kicked and they don't get back in, even if it means dumping them into a cluster of enemies.

Games been out 3 years. You should have reliable gunnerd om friend list by now.

Sure, it can be frustrating when the pickings are ripe, you have the right loadout for the situation, and a small window for quick double digit certs- and you take a newbie on faith they might be able to hit something. And they have zero aiming ability, shoot at the wrong assets, and refuse to finish off the full Sunderer that is sitting right behind you smoking.

But who really cares? Its a free game, where there is no consequence for dying, just respawn and go again.

You gave that person a chance to try something different in game, and maybe helped pique their interest in staying.

Hahaha. Well, if you're looking for specific in a gunner, say so. Staying silent is never an answer; and even less shooting your teamates afterwards. Well, I got my own moral/honor code that I respect, so whatever fits yours, I understand.

Haha though I can say, you're the most dedicated/persistent fellow trying to get renvege I've seen. It's really funny though ^^. And a word of warning to everybody, this guy is hellbent on getting back at you, even if he doesn't get any results for days.

An "Engie only" check would be nice though, I agree on that.

But seriously, if you want/don't want something, you have to say it.
  12. EViLMinD

Yes, you ticked me off. Why would you get back in five times? Five times. FIVE. After I kicked you a second time, what was going through your head? You're a rare player. You have both experience and great skill. You should know better than to annoy a player like me. It was rude, dude. No, I shouldn't have to take the time to text you: "Hey, you're an infiltrator. I need an engineer. Thanks anyway. Kisses". Shooting you was easier. Extreme? Ya. I usually just drive pests out into nowhere and pitch 'em. But, I was tired... kinda drunk... and fed up with the barrage of people not taking the hints I was throwing down. We all have our limits.

Btw, I turned proxy chat off about a year ago. Don't care for that noise. Too much blah blah.

I'm glad we came to an understanding. Neither one of us wants to feud. This is good. I'd rather fight red/purple people.

No, I never back down. I'm a stubborn sob. Hurt me and I hurt back.

Good luck out there. The NC needs more talent up there.

All I want is a gun lock key and I would take so many more pub gunners (or they would have a far better survivability and therefore a better time).

This is part of my first minute experience...if they start firing at things they cant finish theyre out of the car instantly, I have no patience for lack of trigger discipline, they get one free blast to familiarise themselves with the weapon and thats it, any playing with it, tripping the trigger randomly, firing speculatively over a hill or just firing at nothing and byeee, no warnings. Might sound harsh but I can get 100 gunners like that and gunners like that get me killed.

Same with using the weapon beyond its useful range, thats often just inexperience so sometimes ill send them a tell..'its AI only' 'dont fire till we get close' etc etc and if they still dont get the idea...byeee...but even then certain weapons are so specialised (Kobalt for instance) that its just too much hassle to take a pubbie at all.

I agree with the sentiment (even tho I think you could have put it in a nicer way ;) ). One thing you forgot, or one thing which annoys me is these swarms of low BR who come running gleefully up to the side of the car while its in motion expecting to either get in or for it to stop on a matchstick, neither happens....splat! as if theyd run out into the middle of traffic in their street...youve probably ****** your rasser a bit as I have and it probably makes it worse tbh, I can imagine whats going through their minds, 'awwhhhgggg I want a ride in that!' run run run splat!

which is almost as bad as the engineers who see you taking damage and try to repair in full view of enemy fire but blocking the escape route, nrrrrggggg, but at least they meant well

Switched off proxy? You have no right to complain about how your fraction has no teamwork or talent or whatever.

Sure, engineers are good to have, but sometimes if I don't have AV weapons and I'm stuck in the heat of a tank battle and I see a gunnerless vehicle, I take the initiative to gun it, until the tank is out of danger. I usually get a "Thanks". I might even consider changing into engineer if I could. Because having a gunner is better than having no gunner at all.

If you can't be bothered to show some basic curtosey to tell your gunner to get lost via proxy or typing, fine. But to take the trouble to deliberately put your ally in a bad position shows that you don't deserve the respect you ask for. Being high or drunk isn't an excuse. You don't see drunk d***s getting away scot free. And yes, I C4 people like you. I get extreme pleasure when doing so.
  15. MouthFulofCrabs

so lets say your a new person (such as I) and lets face it loads of newbies are joining and people are leaving so you arent going to get that "pro" gunner, i do agree that some should use common sense but some of the guns do take weeks to learn how they function/work and how they can be used to the best possible way... never the less i do agree IN A WAY. and i love anime images :p noone cares about you hating anime :p *insert many anime photos here* lol
  16. St0mpy

We can blame the Op for his communication style but part of the blame lays with DBG for not giving any ingame help support for all these different 2nd seat weapons a random player might jump into.

Sure if we buy a gun for our ride we probably know what to expect but (beside a deeply nested stats page) there is no help at all for players who might suddenly find themselves handling something unfamiliar. Theres no help pop ups, no text alerts, nothing to access to tell them anything about the weapon they just sat in.

Going even further theres no hints on the bodykit or anything, only people who run composite know what the panels mean, only people who use NAR know to look for the little box etc etc, the random gunner has no idea and the game provides no way to get a clue.
  17. LUCAGRABACR

You can just lock your vehicle or unlock it for squad / platoon members only.
  18. St0mpy

You missed the part saying he does actually want gunners in reality, I do too but maybe 1 in 5, if that, lasts more than the first few minutes.

Adds flavor. Makes it a better read. Besides, nice people are dull. Jerks have way more fun.

Didn't the wise old Emperor teach you anything?

    Love this man <3

I've reached the point where I just choose not to deal with this entirely.

The only time I get random gunners is when I forget to lock my vehicle or when someone hops in while my actual gunner is repairing.

Of course, I use a Vanguard so I can afford to solo while a Harasser needs a gunner to reach its basic level of effectiveness.
