I was just about to suggest almost the same event good thing i checked the earlier posts.
    This would def be fun!

Once the physx in the game allow you to get air, I could see a ton of stunt events. Jumping over sunderers in a flash or a sunderer demolition derby.

A really cool idea though would be a sniper battle. Designate an area that doesn't allow for entry into the middle. I don't know if any of you played rogue spear or any of the other rainbow six games back in the day but we had a thing called "no x no mid". We would have an area of a map that was off limits (the middle) and you couldn't cross over on the edges (the x). Doing something like that on one of the open bases or larger tower facilities would be an amazing sniper event.

Give TB's classic stress interviews to the outfits participating in the FNO.

I would like to see the Betta Fish in the background and get an update on how they are doing! As for in game things, call me boring but I would like to see someone spot for some long range artillery fire.

    MAX Boxing anyone?

Not sure if this would actually be fun to watch or not. But it's an idea.

Not sure what that means? Hehe. Do tell. :) I love giving other people stress. =P

I'm working on getting him a little place in the background. Need to finish moving into the new place first. :)

LOL... I need to figure out a way to make this work. =P

King of the Hill Three Way Brawl idea:

I think Planetside has always had some of the most epic and most memorable battles that could be fought in a multiplayer, especially when all 3 factions are involved. To me, Peris and Zurvan have always been fascinating bases because of their adjacent bases having their own hexes, so on the rare occasion where all 3 factions would be fighting for the base, and each faction had either an adjacent base or the base itself, the battles would be the most epic I'd ever experience, as it would bring back memories of fighting for a base in PS1 where one faction owned the base and the other two factions each owned a tower.

Unfortunately most often than not, that's hard to come by. So I think in order to get the BEST fight you'll ever experience, you'll have to do just a little arranging. Here's my idea for a King of the Hill/All Out Tri-Faction Brawl Night Op (AKA The best battle you'll ever be in!)

I think it would be a best Op for either soon (while these base rules are still in place), or close to when beta ends, because who wouldn't want to end beta with the biggest battle you could possible get?

So for my idea (although its not the most creative), here's the finer points:
    1. Have each faction take one of the three Peris surrounding hexes (the west base, east base, and north tower), then when the signal is given, start an all-out battle for the Peris base itself.
    2. There is really just one rule (for now, partly because any more rules and players won't follow them!), no faction is allowed to capture any of the adjacent bases, they must capture the points inside the base only. This means that there will be a constant stream of activity from both factions at any given time, so tactical decisions and teamwork is required to win. Also, with this single rule in place, you can guarantee that most players will huddle inside their respective base until the signal is given to start, so cheating is nearly nullified.
    3. The winner is determined by the first faction to capture and hold the base for a total of TEN MINUTES (time may change) without losing it to another faction. The faction that current holds the 'hill' faces the challenge because they are now spread between Peris and their adjacent base, but on the flip side, they now have instant access to vehicles, as opposed to the other factions who must bring in vehicles from afar.
    4. The timer doesn't stop if the base becomes contested, the timer counts security decryption time (so a faction is rewarded for capturing it even if they lose it right away again, and the timer stops (but does not reset) if the faction loses the base.
I think this would be fun as heck, not only because you have a tri-faction battle with the majority of the players on the server, but you'll also get to see some interesting tactical decisions and teamwork occuring, such a watching factions repairing the generators even if they don't own the base, just to keep the other faction out.

Obviously due to its location, Zurvan is the better choice, but unlike Peris, Zurvan only has two adjacent bases, so some changes would have to be made. I'd go into further details about stuff like that as well as how to balance out other surrounding bases for an equal ticket count (unless admins can simple make them neutral and locked), but I'm curious what other people think of this first!

I really loved the death race today, except that the Vanu and NC bombarded us constantly. I reckon for the next deathrace it should be open to all factions, with a starting point that everyone can get to. I'm sure most people would be good about not shooting others, and it might reduce the mass bomardment/kamikaze aircraft scenario.
I REALLY want to take part in the VIP event, would love to act as a sniper up on a cliff, taking out the enemy VIP from long range!

Wow Rekson, sounds like you should just create an event and get some hype going for it. ;) Hehe. I would love to showcase something like that.

Remember, everyone...I am also doing my normal design job. ;) So it's a bit hard for me to organize these huge events. If you want to create one and get some major interest in it, I will gladly put it on the show.

Put some jump pads on the backs of sunderers and do human target practice against a tower. Or fling infantry at each other from 1000 meters apart to do mid air jousting. Or a tank stacking contest. Or these might be just the ideas of running on 3 hours sleep.

Added this to the OP as well...

Note: For event ideas, you guys and gals make the events and I will help you however I can. I don't have time to also run events. (Lots of event ideas have been added to this thread, so I just wanted to make note of that.)

Spawn an FNO server just for these events and only open it on Friday nights.

That way you can have more control over the night without interfering with those who have no interest in any of these events.
The participants will be free to race flashes, complete jumping puzzles, organise 3way base domination without outsiders hacking their starting hexes or play rabbit

At least then you will know that the majority of participants are there for the events and you can moderate those who are not.

I think that is fair for everyone, FNO server for games, the other servers for PS2 testing.
  13. Luperza Community Manager

I don't like this idea at all. I love the random other things happening on the servers. It really showcases PlanetSide 2. :) I have come across a ton of awesome things just because people were doing them without even knowing about FNO. I don't want to separate the community. =P

What about at least rotating the server each week so they all get to share and be part of the FNO experience?
Or is the aim to use just the initial testing "01" servers where the big established PS1 outfits are?

By rotating the server each week you arent inadvertently creating that unofficial FNO server by holding it the same place on a regular basis, which as you said previously you don't want to do.
This rotation will allow more of the community to come together and be involved who have been testing on different servers and it opens up more possibility of that randomness we all love to see.

It would be great to learn more about the other outfits on different servers and gives you more scope for spotlighting different outfits if you used a different server each week.
The community is so spread an varied with the number of servers on offer it would be a shame not to include them all.
It can be difficult to expect an outift to reroll on your unofficial FNO server when its so much easier for you to go to them.
Perhaps even give a little more notice on which server will be the focus of the night so we have time to prepare something to submit for you to be showcased.

If you watched the episodes... Especially Episode 2, we switched servers to whatever the outfit or event was using. It was never the same server. ;)

I will point out things that bothered me for first i didn't like that there are no cohosts in show because there was a lot of silence, i really didn't like that show wasn't prepared or i had that feeling e.g we didn't get to hear organizers and stuff like that.Problem i had during show was camera especially when its night i couldn't see anything so if possible i would like too see more first person camera.
Don't get me wrong i like show and i watched both episodes i just want it to be even better.

    Hello, Luperza(and everyone else here)!

So, the following ideas all need a good amount of work to translate into a fun, easy to set up and oversee event, but this is all off the cuff and after all this typing, I'm getting a bit drawn out... So without further ado...

    Starting with the easy one:
    Sprint: Checkpoint!
Circuit: Round and round we go!
    There, that WAS easy.

Now for the event(s) that would take a significant amount of time to design so they could be done in an organized and fun way.

    Logan's run:

    A Spec ops showcase...

Categotries: 2, 3, and 5 man squad competitions

    Infiltration(phase one)-

A squad based infiltration event will dictate which squads will be allowed submit an MVP, who upon conclusion of the infiltration phase, will represent their squad in an exfiltration phase...

In phase one, whether the checkpoint be a place, an object to be destroyed, or an objective to be fully captured(TBD), all members of the squad must be at the checkpoint in order to be eligible to put forth their MVP.(think spec ops... I'm thinking a facility cap, a demolitions operation, to be followed by a facility cap, and ultimately a VIP capture, which will lead to the MVP exfiltration/VIP escort. I suppose I will see what you all think about my proposal, and how things play out with MVP's in the mix and such...)

    Exfiltration(Phase two)-

Escape a facility or region with your life, faster than the other guy. e could have resistance set up, or it could just be a sprint... we could allow team fire(since it is not an empire based comp) or not... I kind of like the idea though, as once the infiltration is over, and each empire is headed back to their WH, combatants might not encounter or otherwise engage one-another.

Squad starts at wormhole, (with the multiple objectives designated along the way?) they travel to infiltration point, designated by either central location, separate isolated spots that are proven to be equidistant from the different wormholes. The infiltration point being the main objective, represent intelligence retrieval.

The resultant "controller" at the end chooses their MVP, who will compete in the exfiltration phase of the competition. Once the infiltration tournament results are in, the MVP's will start the exfiltration back to their wormhole...

Second one home is the first loser.

    xD

*note: using different facilities, we can get additional data on movement statistics in a controlled setting...

Travel-distance and natural obstructions would need be considered to maintain equality, unless you start them all out near one another(which could be just as fun).

Also, these kinds of events could be formalized for weekly "hump" day events... rewards could be broadened into weekly empire bonuses, or something along those lines... not to derail the persistence of war on Araxis with mini-games, but I do think events such as these "fit" pretty well(as opposed to regular racing games)...

    Hogan's Alley:
Essentially a shooting gallery with friendlies mixed in to keep shooters on on their toes.

Set up static targets ahead of time and design a point system for hit/kill/destruction.
    Static targets; vehicles, turrets, equipment...
Dynamic aerial targets; Manned vehicles, Light assault... air vehicles & troops acting as clay pigeons.
Dynamic ground targets; Multiple troop variants running preset circuits...
let loose the competitors and see what they can score in kills, hits, accuracy/etc...
We could set up multiple firing ranges, multiple engagement distances and multiple category's for competition(Max, Sniper, AR, Pistol, Launcher, mixed/etc)...

Another type of competition could be assaults on specific emplacements... Take out a gal, take out a turret, ETc
    Time Trials(solo/squad): How fast can you take out X, Y, and(or) Z?
    Rampage(solo/squad): How many X, Y, and(or) Z can you destroy in a set time.

Set up an obstacle course, maybe with vehicles, maybe some set to explode at certain intervals... Maybe set up some more advanced "parkour" circuits...

We can integrate most of my event suggestions with one another for more complex hybrid competitions.

I know I tend to go overboard, but when someone says idea dump, I tend to not hold back.
I'll leave it to you to reel me in and make something useful of my rantings... If anyone can do it, it's you Luperza!
    xD

OK, I think I have now edited this so much that I must stop.
    lol

I apologise if anything is left out of place, or if it seems incomplete, or contains typos, or whatevv'z...
Between those ideas and my knee-jerk support support for sprint/circuit races(multi-category), I think I can be confident that I have contributed no less than 2 cents worth of value to the discussion.
If anyone feels like maybe I missed a pence, drop me a dime.
