Does anyone even care about MLG

This sounds dreadfully similar to what PS2's makers are doing to this game with MLG in mind: throwing money at it and lots of extra attention, with only the fanboys of esports chanting the "it makes money!!!!1" mantra.

Sports stadiums are not meant to generate money, but national prestige.

Countries that build them want to show the rest of the world what they are capable of. Humans have spent countless amounts of cash and riches throughout the ages just to show-off.

Whether it be a country building a massive stadium or a guy blinging out his property. (pïmping is censored? )

I think a huge problem with "professional" gamer culture at its core is the fact that these guys want the ugly side of professional athletics, first. They want to be (over)paid, get lots of attention, turn into narcissistic drama queens complete with angry feuds with fellow drama queens, and probably want the "snort narcotics off of hired escorts part".

They don't want to take decades to become something established and respectable (which is the course every real athletic sport took). They don't want the physical part, because there is no physical part. There is mouse clicking, and when golf has you beat when it comes to exerting yourself, that's embarassingly pathetic to non-gamers to contemplate.

They're skipping the slow climb to respectability and are demanding attention and praise, right now.

This is not even a sports stadium. This is money thrown into the ether. In other words, its even worse, much worse.

It's hard to have a competition in a game that's easier to cheat than Minecraft.

The MLG Defense Force will tell you cheating almost never happens in this game, ever, and that you can't prove that it does, and that everyone just has skill(tm) unlike you.

This is my reason for disliking the MLG community. No true sportsmanship. Noone wants to play fair, they just want to win. As a result companies are forced to create weapons and maps as simply, and as evenly as possible. Any deviation from the norm, or unique weapons characteristics either deems them irrelevant, or OP, and the devs are pressured to nerf everything; not because its needed, but because some MLG "gamer" hates dying to it.

That's like saying Raph Koster loves pets and pet mechanics so he can totally do whatever he wants in pre-cu SWG, which included rendering all combat classes at the worst part of it obsolete unless they had Graul Maulers backing them up with ranks in Creature Handler.

Being smug about things doesn't help your case. It actually highlights what a mistake it can be when a dev has a pet agenda and ignores all the warning signs.

I'm sure this thread isn't over quite yet and you'll probably see a few of these guys saying exactly that: MLG and pandering to it will not affect the rest of the game whatsoever!

Of course at the same time they preach how only the lofty Olympian pro-gamer demigods can decide for us how weapons should work and how the game should be balanced. Both of these apply, simutaneously, apparently.

MLG wont affect the game. But it will in a good way! Just nod your head and open your wallets, peasants!

Saying "nobody cares about it" is a lazy put-down and 99% of the time untrue.

I totally agree with you, and yet thousands of people vote believing the government's lies about them making profit and making the country richer in the long term

I cannot tell about MLG, i believe MLG is profitable because they don't need government subventions and they keep going so i guess it's profitable.

Considering the situation with PS2 though, it's pretty obvious that SOE is not making much profit out of it and probably MLG neither.

Since esports are not payed by public money, it is pratically impossible that it's not profitable.

They do get some money from the public, entry fee's, merchandise, tournament HD video subscriptions, etc. But yes, most of their money comes from sponsors.

I don't disagree with you .. I'm sure if you took a player poll the majority would want nothing to do with MLG , but this is one thing due to the Dev's love of esports that would not be listened to until it blew up in their face.

I'm sorry for using confusing terms, by public i mean government as in every single worker's pocket. Ofcourse you are totally right that the ''viewers'' (to make my term more clear) can be a good part of the revenue. Thank you for your comment i'll try to remember to be more clear about this.
