Why you should care about your faction. (Lore)

  1. The Crimson Overlord

During the first colonization of Auraxis, scientists belonging to the Terran Republic discovered, in this order: warpgates, "teleportation', immortality and abuse of resources. The scientists, belonging to a completely different breed of thought that didn't begin to fathom militaristic exploitation of an immortal army, began to think: If these structures (warpgates) and this technology all belong to the aliens, why did they leave them here for someone else to find? And if so, how would the rest of humanity benefit from this technology? What if we ("we" being anyone who aren't oppressive military dogs) could become...immortal?

For a while, the scientists continued to work under the Terran Republic banner. Resupply ships continued to fly though the wormhole, sustaining normal human life on Auraxis, and for a time, peace continued to exist. But then, the unthinkable. The wormhole collapsed entirely. Or rather, it was set to collapse...by the Terran Republic. After a disgrunted Terran Republic ace pilot got tired of hearing the debates between the hierarchy of the Republic and the scientists camped out on Auraxis, the pilot chose to end the debate of weather of not to send living tissue through a Warpgate. He flew his plane through a Warpgate beam during an intense debate, disregarding the threats coming over his radio. He came through on the continent named Indar unharmed. Due to the fact that the Terran Republic perceived this as a threat to humanity should the aliens return to find unknown life forms fiddling with their technology, and become hostile, the pilot was executed. Unfortunately out of this came the discovery of immortality, as the pilot was found days later, alive, unharmed, in a rage, and armed with a gun. (So you can thank a Terran Republic pilot for starting the war on Auraxis. :p)

Radical minds rallied on Auraxis. Scientists continued to draw themselves further and further into the world of alien technology, hoping that one day, all but the unthinkable could be unlocked, the wormhole could be re-opened, and the new age of death-worry free life could be spread back to Earth, and then, by the will of the masses, the Terran Republic could be thrown from the seat of power they had held by swordpoint for hundreds of years. And the final spark to ignite this fire came when a scientist found a way to translate the alien language plastered across all the warpgates on Auraxis into English...the result? Vanu.

However, not all agreed on the possibility of either militaristic power being held for any longer, nor the aggravation of the aliens who so loathed the humankind stealing their technology. Out of fear and gut insitnct came the New Conglomerate. The New Conglomerate had existed far before AW1 (Auraxian War One) as a small, corporation-powered weapons manufacturer who made the weapons for all of the Terran Republic. (Can you imagine a Terran HA holding an NC Gauss SAW?) However after the strife between the Vanu and the Terran Republic started, the New Conglomerate wanted nothing to do with either ideology and simply wanted not only peace, but independence. Through the exploitation of fear came the heavily-armed, well trained and readily fighting Conglomerate, secretly funded by Nanite Systems as well as many other Earth-based companies for several years before AW1.

So, what does this all boil down to? All 3 faction ideologies have one basic tie: aliens. Since nobody knew what to expect of the aliens should they return to Auraxis, everyone had their own choice of how to try to handle the situation at hand. And since us humans are terrible at agreeing with eachother, war came to rise between 3 separate ideas:

The Vanu Sovereignty believe that the aliens and their technology are peace-loving things of habit and would welcome the aliens with open arms, thus preventing any hostile connection between the REAL Vanu and humanity and bringing a new age of enlightenment and peace back to their home planet should the Vanu be victorious and return to Earth with a substantial coalition army of Vanu soldiers and aliens.

The Terran Republic think that the aliens are a threat, regardless of the fact that they've never met them before, and will do anything to control people, ideas or information from returning to Earth and starting a rebellion there as well. Being absent-minded, death-threatened soldiers that they are, the Terran Republic soldiers trapped themselves and the Vanu/New Conglomerate forces on Auraxis by destroying the wormhole leading back to Earth in the desperate hope that they could carry out the final orders given to them: Stop the Terran Republic from falling at all costs.

The New Conglomerate want nothing to do with alien life forms nor the socialist power grab movement of the Terran Republic and want to form a new system of government not seen since the end of World War 3 on Auraxis. Driven by hate, ignorance, fear and greed brought to them by the earth corporations and Nanite Systems Inc, they fight to no end to secure not only a planet, but an ideology that all men could and SHOULD be made equal, and will die time and time again to gain recognition of this fact and to hold peace for those who wish to be free from evil of any kind.

So, who do you support now?

NC 4 life, bro. I'll be damned if some authoritarian or religious nutjob is gonna tell me what to do. Corporate greed? N PLS. Greed is good. Greed is natural. And, greed is every auraxians' right (freedom too). Those red despots and purple alien-wannabees can suck it!

Oh and another thing: after viewing the lore and witnessing all the good changes made to Vanu, I think I can say with confidence I'm re-declaring my allegiance to Vanu. :p

There is a difference between an idea and a religion.
  5. Wintermaulz

Im sorry, but what? You got the lore all wrong.

    TL / DR version

Worm hole collapesed as soon as the expeditionary fleet passed through, no body destroyed it
TR are trying to bring peace to auraxis, but are very totalitarian, and draconian
VS want to enlighten humanity, but believe all non believers are heretics, and should be purged
NC want freedom from VS and TR, but are secretly run by mega corporations.

Your post is far to subjective.

Don't you think your empire already has ENOUGH of a population advantage after the ZOE MAXes?
  7. Crator

VS & TR are just puppets to either man or aliens. NC promote, live, and die (reconstructing not long after) for freedom for all! Long live the NC!

I'm going to stick with the empire that has maintained peace for more than a thousand years, bringing unity and peace across the galaxy.

This post is also slightly showing the Terran Republic more negative than the other empires. You're saying in red that the TR caused the begining of the war, even though it was the mistake of one individual...

This post is missing some negativity towards Conglomerate and Vanu, they aren't all butterfly's and sunshine, they're just as flawed as the Terran Republic. I smell bias...

"I'm sorry to say your wrong, but your wrong.

    *Stereotypical yadda-yadda*

Your post is far too* subjective."

Subjective to WHAT? The official Planetside lore?

The Vanu Sovereignty is corrupted by knowledge. It seeks to increase its technological capabilities by ANY means necessary, ignoring safeguards. It uses technology without fully understanding it. The very technology that was left behind by an alien species. If this technology was so great, what happened to the alien species that created it? I mean, the devices provide IMMORTALITY. Does it have a maximum number of times before failure? Does it cause irreparable changes to the host? Who knows. The only people who could solve this mystery are instead abusing the very technology that they tout to be the way to save and accelerate humankind.

The New Conglomerate is corrupted by wealth. It does not agree with regulated society, but instead seeks monetary wealth under the guise of freedom. It states that it promotes freedom, when in effect everything it actually promotes can be summed to freedom from ANY regulation. These regulations under the Terran Republic, may have been overbearing, but the NC have chosen to forgo any sort of regulation whatsooever. Freedom to extort, freedom to bribe, freedom to commit war as a fiscal corporation under the guise of being a free democratic government. Freedom in this case is bought, not earned.

The Terran Republic is corrupted by power. Due to the issues with handling the crises involved with running a government while isolated from the capital, the Terran Republic chose to use martial law, regulation, and control to maintain the status quo in hopes that the situation would eventually stabilize. When the alien technology was found, they chose to restrict and regulate it out of well-founded fears that the technology would be too dangerous to use without safeguards in place. They also chose to restrict freedoms in attempt to stifle dissent, but this plan ultimately failed.

How did you miss all the sh*t I was throwing at the Conglomerate in the blue text? I said they are greedy b*stards. And that TR pilot did not make a mistake: he formed an intention. What he wanted to do was make the Terran scientists shut up for once. What he got was a war.

    Incorrect.

Skeptics will continue to be executed until they are no longer skeptics.

A little nitpicky here but a lot of the things repeated by enemies of the sovereignty don't appear to be mentioned anywhere. Nowhere does it say they ignore safeguards or use things they don't understand, on the contrary the fact that they can manufacture the weapons and tool them for a human physiology means they would have to understand them quite well which would only come through oh IDK maybe the supposed 300 years they've had to research them?
Also it is stated that they will wipe out those who oppose them, not those who will not join them. Assumptions to the contrary are just that, assumptions of a if you're not with us you're against us policy that isn't stated. In fact the VS tried to ask the NC for help initially and instead the NC declared war on them.

  18. Bolticus

Just going to put this out here from what I have heard.

The Vanu formed due to the fact that the Terran Republic was hiding new technologies from the public. Such as rebirthing and nanite construction. They wanted the Vanu technology to be shared with all of mankind and broke off from the TR for that reason. They then joined the war as they believed the NC/TR were scarring Auraxis and destroying hidden Vanu artifacts. So they wanted to end the war.

Needless to say, we didn't accomplish our goal. :D

But I generally think the TR is the faction with the best lore, and NC with the worst. From what I have heard, the NC started all the conflicts and as a result, in order to keep the public safe the TR had to enforce many strict laws and curfews. The public had no problem with the TR as there was an election every decade and the TR was voted back into power everytime.

    So.

    TR=Good guys
    NC=Bad guys
VS=Good guys in their own way :D

If I'm wrong on any of this. Feel free to correct me.

Yeah, seeing as how Earth is overpopulated as it currently is, maybe we should solve population issues before removing dying from the equation.

The alien technology is still not understood. Rebirthing chambers work, but we still don't know why. What if we're not actually rebirthing? What happens if it's actually a clone of us with our memories? Then, in fact, no one on Auraxis the same person. For all we know, the rebirthing chambers can be influencing our very thoughts. Maybe we're fighting because the rebirthing chamber makes us war-mongering. Maybe it's a trap set by the Vanu to weaken a species into destroying itself rather than focusing on exploration.

Nope, VS definitely wants to destroy the NC and TR and play test tubes with all our genes and all.

Reading the PS1 lore... I still support the TR, though I have a small amount of support now for the NC, though they are still corporate shills.

Alien beings of sufficient power to create all that stuff are not going to be freely giving that stuff away. Also the VS have too ambiguous of goals comparatively to the NC. The NC want independence, and that is alright in and of itself, but the VS simply wish to replace the existing regime with their own, and somehow also they assume they will be freely assisted by the Aliens, of who the Auraxians have no knowledge, besides their technological prowess. Ultimately their goals rely on the aliens being benevolent and open to the idea of outsiders, while so culturally similar to humanity that their own "Benevolence" could be wildly different to that of humanity, but if they are not, then they set humanity up for enslavement under a regime that not only is technologically superior, but also carries the potential to have entirely different biological, cultural, and religious ideologies to ours... some of which could be good, but also some of which could lead to extermination.
