The thing about a fantasy genre is the fact it is a genre, there is enough generic lore around about stuff (orcs are evil, gnomes build stuff, dragons have breath weapons etc.) that while taking things in a new direction is fine, too move to far away from what is accepted as base lore can really detract from the familiarity, an example that springs to mind were the Dwarves in skyrim, according to that lore they were a race of elves...something that I didn't like, or more correctly didn't feel right to me. So for me, Females Dwarves need to be able to have beards if they so chose.

Now what would really be cool is if you have to maintain them, i.e. they actually grow in game and if you want to keep that fresh shave loot you need to visit a barber or skill up yourself. There is also the possibility of a few little comic quests there to find a solution to stopping it from growing, or having dwarves get afflicted with a condition that causes their beards to fall off and they have to quest for a cure for their baldness.

    Should elf women have ears?

Hello. I'm fresh new on the forum as i stated in the post on Landmark complexity. I'll say that I didn't read all the posts here and there, they are quite a bit! So please forgive me if I'm going to be captain obvious and say something that is already been said.

I think that in a fantasy you should get all the references you can get but in the end it is a fantasy so there isn't anything that can really and actually fix rules. That said I'll go with the flow and say that is up to the player to decide and i will motivate my choice saying that ecstatic parameters could be different on the point of view of a male dwarf... that for an in game prospective.
On the other hand if you want to get to the heart of some player that want "something" cute you should use as refernce what developers did with a certain only-female race in Tera Online or perhaps like in the anime "Outbreak Company" - started airing in japan this season - where in episodes four and five you see in a class (yes, a school class, check it out if you have time) a young female dwarf pictured like a, somehow, cute but pettanko and masculine character. Beard can grow aging perhaps....

    Look, it is quite simple:

If male dwarves like female dwarves with beards, they will (as a general rule) mate with females that have facial hair. It they don't like female dwarves with beards, they will (again, as a general rule) mate with females that don't have facial hair. Either way, by means of natural selection, the gene(s) for female facial hair will either be suppressed (but not entirely eliminated) or will be enhanced (but not 100% present).

Essentially, this is a question best answered by the male dwarves. My opinion on the matter is irrelevant, as I am a human.

But all of this is sidestepping the real issue: Should male dwarves be bald headed or have a full set of hair? This is a question that will have to be resolved by the female dwarves.

This definitely needs to be optional, and not nixed all together. In the Tolken universe, Female dwarves did have beards and were very indiscernible from male dwarves. Definitely should be an option for those who chose to play this race

Dwarven women lost their beards when they used the hair to bind Fenrir.

When you make you character's face shape, mostly in every race's male characters; there's an option if you want beard or not. This should be an available option also on female dwarves. That's it.

So, how are those female dwarf avatars coming?

They're all being shaved, since the plurality of people did not say "Yes, they should have beards"

"Should female dwarves have beards or not?"

Isn't that really up to the female dwarves?

Do male dwarves have to be obsessed with ale and drinking?

    Should halflings shave their feet?

    :)

This seriously made me LOL, this should be a choice in-game. I would laugh more than be mad if killed in pvp by a bearded little lady ;P

They should seriously have beards! It allows me to yell insults at my Dwarven friends like "You mother didn't have a beard!!!!"

Definitely an option (most likely one many won't take :p)
  16. Miijed New Member

What is boils down to is offering the option. Those who want it will take it and it will have no bearing on anyone else's enjoyment of the game. Although to quote someone earlier on (but I'm not going to bother searching the thread to actually quote it), beards should be a playable race with optional cosmetic dwarves is the best response.

I don't think this poll is fair for the dwarven women who do have facial hair. What if the vote goes to no facial hair and some dwarven women can't help it! Shame on all of you.

    Hinges the Windmage has spoken.

Solid reference but no cigar! Dwarven women who don't have beards are cave traitors, above-ground lovers, and should be burned at a tiny stake.

it would add a lot of humor to the game, but I doubt any woman would want a beard...
