How complex should the Landmark design tools be?

If these checks and balances are in place, I would feel a bit better. I'm all for giving the player's control, but we live in an age where to protect immersion, there should be responsibility attached to that.

Honestly, the devs are all old hat at this, and the combined years of MMORPG design background they have is staggering. They're well aware of the mindset of some of the player base, and Omeed has joked on twitter about how he liked one of the suggestions for a Landmark build.. "Bonehenge" (No bones involved). :p I wouldn't worry about it. There is and always has been the ToS and the PNP.

Happy Veteran's Day to my fellow service members at home and over here with me! Active, reserve, retired and no matter what branch you were in! It may not be Veteran's Day where you are but here in Afghanistan we're in the future ;)

Ok so watching the new stuff out about landmark, and a little more info on how they eventually plan to add mob scripting and etc. I can't help but get excited.

I wonder if it will just be a series of tools and < > type checks like in dragon age. It was in a sense very limited AI scripting for your group, giving it a set of rudimentary "likes" and "dislikes" (your healer would "like everyone to be 75% hp or above, for instance)

It will be interesting to see if we can give mobs basic instructions as that and then set them out. Perhaps up to 20 lines of everything from faction likes/dislikes, to a preference to attack certain classes first.

If this has been discussed already I apologize, I am lazy and didn't want to read all 70 pages of this thread :p

I was thinking about the tools again now that landmark can be pre-purchased. I was hoping that there would be option to adjust appearance based on time - e.g. like haunted house. During day hours it is just ransacked house, during night windows would gain green glow etc.
Elements would be also nice to have effect - like wind on curtains, fire to collapse a building, earthquake to shake them and so on so as a basic idea that time could affect on them

Getting back to building toolset complexity...

I've done a lot of building in RIFT and some in EQ2, and one issue pops up over and over again: Camera height. When doing detail work on tall things or a grand-scale build it really helps to be able to lift your character's camera point of-view UP and move it around a bit. It is hard to place and modify items that you can't see well (or at all) from your position on the ground. And building scaffolding is not always a good option.

So I was wondering if we might see something in the Landmark building toolset like that will help with this, like say, maybe a flying disc that we can activate and ride only while in decorating mode and/or within our own claim areas? Very small or even invisible, so it won't obstruct our downward view? *embarrassed smile* I don't know much about what's available in the way of solutions for this sort of issue. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about the tools and world will come up with a better idea than mine. :)

I can't wait, I love to create stuff, i spent hours in Rift doing my Dimensions so players can Role play in them, and i don't even role play in mmo's.

Coming late to this party (though I'll be early to alpha ).

I want the capabilities of 3DS Max or Maya, Poser, Bryce and all the other professional level tools in a standard 3D developers toolkit. Make an easier version, or turn things off if you have to for some people, but you really can't create _anything_ if you have a toolset that holds you back. And anything less than everything means holding us back.

I want 3D custom objects made by players. Made with Skethup by example. This can give Everquest very fine detail and is a lot easier to build big castles or palaces.

Sketchup has a lot of fans.

I am wondering about the various crafting aspects of the game. I assume most of the varied skins , textures, will come from manipulating the raw material. Will we have access to forge, sawmills, etc from the beginning or will we have to discover them? How complex will the recipes get and what will affect the quality of the end product? How do I get a polished stone or turn sand into glass?

I really hope claims are big enough and this was mentioned on the live stream as well. Could I be able to pick a big spot, lets say sides of two mountains and build this huuuge bridge between? Would that restrict people building under it? Could I say that the space under is public and free to claim by changing height parameters of my claim?

Since we will have powerful tools to work with the claim mechanic seems to be the potential bottleneck here. I'm gonna do this and I'm sorry but if you look at Minecraft there are some huge and insane builds done by just one/two people (that includes me). What ever the case might be I'm looking forward to decorating that landscape.

Save your time and let import directly COLLADA files in the game.

Sketchup already have millions of followers as you can check here:

2.182.509 viewers in only a video tutorial.

Everyone can learn Sketchup only with Youtube tutorials.... I did it. :D

And this tool is impressive and powerful. You can do almost anything you can dream.

See this pictures about Twinity. My place is called "Castillo de Cabezas". Everything is done with Skechup and is very, very realistic. I love making stained glass windows.

In this other case the textures are mine... from a holidays in the north of Spain:

I agree in the first, Everquest can use its own tools for basic design. And let players upload Collada files ( Sketchup files ) to make impressive models. Everyone can create a cathedral or a beautiful castle with the free version of Trimble Sketchup.

But I dont agre with the Everquest in tablets of mobile devices. This can dilute the power of the game. I want a very , very impresive landscape.... there are already a lot of "Castlevilles".

Making Everquest Next for mobile devices is making a different game.

I want places so big and complex that someone could need half a hour to visit.

Like my own "Castillo de Cabezas" in Twinity. And here is only a "small" part of the whole place.

Another thing I thought of today during work. it is not related directly to complexity/simplicity of the Tool, BUT. I hope it is not only the geometrical shapes and Natural rock formations that we can create. I would love to see the tools for us to create our ouw custom trees and plants and vegetation, if for example I want to create a unique, gnarly, twisted massive root with a creepy hollow stump on top of it growing over my witch-hut, I'd like to be able to do that on the fly, as well as add custom-shaped foliage to the said root/tree. :D

I would like to see script programmable objects. One such benefit would be to allow for secret doors by say touching a wall mounted lamp.

These tools should be as complex as possible. I want to be able to build, create props and NPCs, modify behaviors etc. I want basically all the freedom the devs can give without breaking the game, which I'll suppose is quite a lot. Most players might use landmark just for building, but what about quest building? Story manufacturing? These could be great ways to add to EQN. I'm really pumped for alpha and beta, can't wait to get in and help the devs make the best tool possible for launch.
