How complex should the Landmark design tools be?

I did mention it, but only in passing and not by name. It's no mistake though that knowledge of Minecraft has spread significantly further than Wurm, so it is easier to provide it as a frame of reference.

I wonder about this, and how far they actually want to go. In the end, EQN:L isn't truly a separate game.. it's the gateway to EQN, as they've said. They primarily seem to want it for people to build and sell projects on, as well as get free outsourcing for the game itself. I wonder how much simulation we'll see as a result, if any.

    When is EQN:L coming out?

All we know at the moment is 'this Winter', unless someone can correct me on that.

Smed said sometime this year. The devs said sometime this Winter. So probably anytime between December 20th and the first quarter of next year, longer if beta uncovers a lot of issues. We're supposed to hear beta news sometime in the next month or so.

Also, I was digging through quotes and thought I would toss these in as far as tools currently available, as I don't think they've been mentioned here:

Or at least, I don't recall seeing them mentioned--especially the one on interactables. *shrug*

Early to mid December has historically been a good point for MMO/expansion releases, so I could potentially see it as early as then. This year though, could be anywhen - does not seem any drastic competition :)

Considering it's not even out in beta yet, I don't see EQNL being released this year; sometime in Jan-Feb at least. I wonder whether 'this winter' was specifically pertaining to the beta, or if they meant the full release...
  8. Xurtan Well-Known Member

They specifically said release was this Winter. No mention of when Beta was to start, at the time. Although now we know they're talking about when to have it, and DG just maliciously tweeted "11 11 11 11", so.. November 11th, at 11:11 maybe we'll hear something. *dons speculation hat* I don't see it being released this year either, despite Smed. But people often forget Winter doesn't only last until the end of the year.

Well, provided there's no slippage, the quote DG used was "...we're releasing an entirely new game this winter". So yea I'm excited :D

While I don't play WoW any more, I'll be keeping my ears open for what happens this weekend at Blizzcon as I expect to hear expansion news. That time you announced should be enough after Blizzcon to steal some thunder - I could see that happening! Thanks for the heads up :)

Naturally, he just came back and said that because marketing hates him right now, it has nothing to do with beta. :p So who knows. I'm curious now.

The base should be simple, but you have the option to be more complex...there shouldn't be limits to your imagination.

I think the easiest answer to this question is that they tools need to be as complex as they need to be in order to allow the player base to create the structures. I would like to see the tools be broken down into levels of complexity, maybe have a simple/advanced series of tools. This will allow for every player to be able to dive right in and create something they can be proud of.

I saw the combat trailer too and though he was tearing through bricks way too easily. It's refreshing to know they are already considering changing that.

Bricks should be hard to break, wood should be easier... marble should be harder! Can I mine enough diamond to make a wall? Can anything break through a diamond wall?

Now I want my tiny hut to be made of diamonds and impregnable!!!!

Complex enough so that I'm the only one to know how to use them and I will build a world full of mystery, and enchantment, and the finest merchandise on sale now, come on down!

    NPC
    MobS
    basic boolean tools.
ability to save preset models, etc.
    scaling options.
    triggers would be nice
    special effects
    sounds

Neverwinters dungeon Forge should be looked into, that is pretty amazing.

I just have to say this poll is kinda silly. Not all of us have played Minecraft, so asking me if the tools should be more or less complex than that game is futile. I chose the final option since none of the other choices were relevant.

In any case my answer would be this: I was ease of use, but a lots of options. I want to be able to refine my project in great detail, but I want the building process to be very easy and intuitive.

Minecraft's tools are 'place block here.' (That's it, some mods allow you to rotate certain blocks - still on the 90 degree axes.)

Since we've already seen that we're dealing with voxels, and not cubes of a single specific size, the tools already have more depth...

I love the video and love the idea on as much as you use the tool you get better at it and maybe one day you will be able to add your own adventure or dungeon to the game as to tier of the actual land mark levels?????

Not a bad idea, but does anyone worry about world cohesion with all this player driven content? I just don't how many phallic towers and, if they do what you suggest, phallic themed quests I can take. Players don't always know what they want, do they?

More than likely anything added to EQN will have to be approved by the devs/GMs and such. After all, they've already said that for Landmark, and that they'll have a continent set aside solely for Norrathian lore based projects. I don't doubt there will be a 'Report' function for things that break the ToS/PNP, as well.

Still, they -have- hinted we'll be able to potentially make our own quests or dungeons eventually, although probably not at launch. I would look to EQII's dungeon design system for an idea of how it's likely to work.
