Without a nerco I don't think there is a way to beat that event at level 100. I've tried, but I admit to not being the best of players.
  2. Atvar Augur

Curious, have any of you actually tried asking a necro to come and help with it? The one that are complaining that is.

All I see is moaning about how Solt3 is too annoying, or its too hard, or its too time consuming, or its too inconvenient, or its just flat out not easy enough, or it cant be simply overpowered by modern dps ... omg we have to actually adhere to the event mechanics ... its all sooooooooo unfair! The horror.

Interesting that amidst all the bellyaching, not a single poster has provided any details regarding any bugged or broken mechanics with the event. Seems everyone agrees its working precisely as expected.

Its possible to condense many of the posts in this thread to ... Do not want.

Well it's clear that this tobynn guy is baiting everyone in this thread, so I'm not gonna bother wasting my time replying directly to him further lol.

I have beat it twice in the past 10 days using ranger melee as sole source of all golem damage. 20-25 minutes and done both times. Zero fails. Effortless. Trivial. Zero necros in zone.

Don't buy into that necro-required talk. Its quite simply untrue.

Killing Adriana was not possible at lv 70. The script checked her hp every 5(?) sec, and it was not possible to do 10% or more of her hp in 5 sec even by 54 people at lv 70, so the script worked as intended for lv 70. At lv 100 that became a matter of 1 unlucky crit. Having to bring her to 10% without killing her is similar to the balance requirement in Solteris #3, just not as brutal.

One last time: Solteris #3 is not bugged or broken. It's just poorly designed and at high levels it becomes incredibly irritating, for no good reason. Just like you.

Just change it so that your can fail it, kill the swarm, get no chest, but get the lockout and be able to proceed.

    Easy, quick, done.

Right now, yes maybe you can. But it's getting harder and harder as time passes. Eventually you WILL need a necro to beat it...when we're knocking out 10-15-20% hp on the last wave of golems in a single strike. or nuke. or pet swing. requiring us to downgrade to lower level weapons, spells, pets.

The fact of the matter also remains that every single balance event in Everquest, even Commodus later on in this very same raid instance, can be beaten by overcoming and overpowering the out of balance trigger if you're strong enough to power through....except this one. This singular event wipes and resets if you unbalance them. And it is probably the only event in Everquest that gets progressively harder as you get higher level. It makes no sense. I'm all for challenge in Eq. In fact I think EQ is too easy these days. But an event that is 25+ levels below the currenct level cap and is almost impossible to beat without one very specific class, and very very very very very very soon in the future WILL be impossible to beat without that one specific class, isn't challenge. It's....well stupid is a pretty close word to describe it.

The golems aren't even that easy. Have you killed them before? I did. I didn't parse it personally when I did it, but someone that did said they clocked in at around 40-50 million total combined hp. and there's like 20 of them. somewhere around there. all hitting in the low thousands. They aren't pushovers. The "casuals", the people who you are most concerned about getting these items probably, wouldn't be able to push through that. They'd have to do the event normally. That's assuming they can even get past event 1 with it's 5 minute time limit. Unless they are zerkers.... zerkers could decap past event 1. and then decap through the golem swarm. But I mean come on, who plays zerkers am I right? :p

I really am not understanding your argument. The only two points you've really posed so far is:

    1. I don't want people getting flooded with items.

Solteris provides weapon graphics for houses, is one of MANY skeleton illusions (except...this one is red.. And only usable by 3 classes anyway), is one of MANY Seru speed horses obtained in-game without SC or LoN (Seru, Emp SSRA, Casino Drog, Ghostrider/Ghostrider Redux, Imperial Sokokar, UF named dropped ant, UF acheesment ant) and one of 2 that are drogmors, is one of MANY raids that flags you for pure powersources, and is one of MANY raids that can flag you to do Old Man McKenzie raids. What about all of that is so amazing that it needs to be locked behind an event like this?

    And:

    2. Devs won't change old content

To which I provide the following counter argument which is only a fraction of the counter-argument I could provide if I chose to go back through years of patch notes, this is just recently:

  11. Tobynn Augur

I posed neither point. Want to pull anything else out of that hat?
  12. Calamity Lorekeeper

At least, unlike Deathknell, a small group of players is all that is needed for Solteris.

Until I join a current content raiding guild, I have to choose old world raids for access to select items like Circle of Power III. At lvl 100, with so many crit modifiers in place, I will just have to find the right small group of players to handle the restrictive mechanics.

Who knows any necros? They don't group, raid or talk with anyone. Except in the deathbloom threads.

One of the reasons this event sticks out so badly as the level cap increases is that it doesn't follow our expectations of hard or soft failure mechanics. Hard failure mechanics give a clear YOU LOSE. They tend to be linked to a well defined objective, a time limit, a protected NPC, or an accumulation of smaller failures that we can track. Time limits in dps-check raids are the most relevant hard failures. Corinav, Solteris #1, SS3, and HoF2 put you on a timer to accomplish something. SS3 is the clearest of these. You WILL die if you take too long, once your breath runs out, drowning damage doesn't care about character power increases. The others depop fail. No more NPCs, the event just ends, burn harder next time.

Soft failures are thing that probably did the same job as hard failures when the raids were current. But player levels, dps, gear or skill above the event's expected levels are able to overcome them and continue the event despite harder conditions. The vast majority of failure mechanics fall under this. All the way back to early scripted events, like Shei Vinitras. Death touches become survivable, powering up bosses become a joke, add waves becoming ignorable, boss heals become out-dpsable, mass AEs and debuffs lose effectiveness, etc. This is especially true for other balance events, they always give some punishment for falling out of balance, but in every other one I can think of, it's something that makes the event harder. From CoA, to the other Solteris events, all the way to Resplendent Temple, Sepulcher 1, or Grelith's, balance events ramp up difficulty in ways that might wipe a level appropriate raid in a couple ticks, but can be overcome by a group 20 levels later.

Solteris 3 completely breaks from this. Going out of balance feels like a soft fail mechanic. You go off for a little bit, then there's a bunch of adds that would have wiped a raid in short order. But now you can kill them, it's a lot harder than just killing the actual raid mobs. But afterwards, they're dead, you're alive, and the event mobs are just gone. Sure, you didn't follow the event mechanics, but were able to overcome the punishment. The expectation at that point is either for the event for continue, or for you to win. Neither of those happen. The event ignores the expected raid structures in a way that leaves players feeling unhappy and betrayed.

On top of that, the number of classes that can even do ANYTHING during the event is shrinking. Any kind of innate damage proc or other random damage potential prevents participation in the event until the final portion. For small groups doing this, that means the people who are not playing one of the classes still able to interact with the event get to go stand in a corner and afk for 30 minutes while the mobs get necro bombed. I shouldn't need to say it, but that is not fun.

Basically, Solteris 3 is a huge pile of bad game design choices. It would be really cool if it got changed to not be so awful.

I have taken a group through Solteris several times in the hunt for CoP clicky but we have consistently failed on this event, with multiple different class combinations having a go. As a bst I was able to get quite a long way through it on my own by splitting myself and my pet around... all goes fine with the slow but steady approach but then there appears to also be a hard timer of 15 minutes which automatically triggers failure? I can't find details of this time limit on ZAM but we seem to consistently fail at the 15 minute mark, regardless of who is doing the damage and how far into the splitting they are. Is this just strange coincidence or has anyone else had this? We were all watching the target window and nobody saw a 5% split on any occasion.

Several people in this thread have spoken about necros being crucial. Please could you give some info on how they actually complete this event? I have never played the class, but my worry would be DoT crits that instantly put mobs out of balance, or an unpredictable resist on one mob whilst the other is dotted? It would be hard for me to convince people to have yet another shot at this point without some decent strategy. Any help would be much appreciated!

Ah perfect, thanks! That makes more sense. A DoT class would have been bottom of my list otherwise.

I believe the necro dmg aura also works for this(it's been a while since I've done it). It's also a fixed dmg ae.

I did this event a cpl on nights ago and here is what happened. At our first run our warrior forgot to take his weapons out of hands and ended up screwing up the event by doing too much riposte damage. Second run our 100 wizard who was resorting to lvl 80 spells instead of 100 (indicator of a problem right there) eventually had an arcane infusion proc which is uncontrollable and thus screwing up the event once more. The wizard had to log onto an 85 wizard alt that he has and only then were we finally able to beat it. After all that an hour and a half of our lives had passed and ppl decided to log out cause we were no where close to done and it was all cause of this stupid event. Point is its annoying how fragile this event has become and it gets old fast. Other people actually were kind of interested in joining us but their very reason for not was solely cause event 3. Everyone thinks this event is a PITA and as mentioned this event is only going to get worse as we gain high lvls and more power. The event is broken but not from a scripting or bug/glitch stand point. It's a poorly designed event which is its flaw right there.

I am a fortunate one in that I have a necro friend who is raided back then and knows the mechanics of the fight / how the rest of solteris works. Also I have my own necro.

But trying to explain old fight mechanics to a random necro dude who has 0 interest in doing solteris to begin with:

Me - "So what I need you to do here is /pet hold and /pet guard where this paladin is tanking"
Necro - "Okay, which target do I attack"
    Me - "Uh, none please"
    Necro - "Oh! Well... Okay?"
Me - "So load up the 4 pet bomb spells"
    Necro - "pet bomb?"
Me - "You know; Necrotize Ally, Empower Ally, Energize Ally, Sanction Ally. The ones that AE and FD your pet"
Necro - "So, uh... I only have Energize and Sanction"
Me - "Sigh, that will have to do"
Necro - "So I just cast it?"
    -wait 1 min-
Necro - "I keep getting block messages!"
Me - "Oh, yea you have to remove the buff from your pet manually, one of them doesn't let you do that, the lowest one... But I guess you don't have that"
Necro - "Why am I casting it if I just remove it?"
Me - /face palm "Just do it"
-wait 1 min and 4-split arrives-
Necro - "So I DoT these?"
    Me - "NO!"
Me - "Just keep chain casting those pet spells until I tell you to stop"
    Necro - "Well that's stupid..."
    Me - "Yes."
    -wait 15 minutes-
Necro - "Are we there yet?"
Me - "No, this is the last split"
    -wait 5 minutes-
Me - "Now you can kill them!"
-wait 2 minutes til event is won-
    -sees loot-
Necro - "Don't ever ask me to help you with something this boring again"
    Me - "sigh, thanks"

Basically that's how it has panned out the last few times I took necro unfamiliar with solteris to help me. So I've stopped bothering
