Has Anybody Here Seen The Shadiest Swashbuckler?

    Roshen,

Personally I am with several others and agree there should be a NODROP tag added to the items sold.
Along with at least one other poster I have spent 5+ years searching for and buying rare items, including the firestorm cape. I bought it with the knowledge that it no longer dropped. The nodrop tag would help eliminate the confusion of which are original dropped items and which are purchased items.

This also would virtually eliminate anyone purchasing the item just to resell it. Which would help, in my opinion, ease the effect of introducing these items back into the game. Some people no matter if it is droppable or not will undoubtedly feel gipped if they have the only item on the server and now there is two of them.

To help solve the cost per item issue, EQ can add a countdown mechanic to the pricing and have the price drop 1 Noble per hour until it is purchased. If it makes it to zero it disappears.

Marcia Attamilgad, the Shadiest Swashbuckler, is not an annual event. She's a permanent citizen of Norrath, and at this time there are no plans to remove her.

I hope not that the intention with the items + noble are increased sale of kronos.

I mean, atm the prices on kronos are going up and this will even increase those more.

So people buy kronos for RL Money, then they sell those in bazaar for game money, buy nobles. And then able to buy items.

Could be bad pr, if some at some point have bought some kronos and sold those for game money to buy these items. I mean
just see various games where you can buy help game items for RL Money, and then those games have had to refund people
    who done that.

If people buy more Krono and lots of plat is taken out of the game, krono prices will go DOWN, not up. More supply of krono, less supply of plat.
  5. fortuneteller Augur

The price might prob in the long run go down,, but at beginning they will go up, and if price do down, people will then have to buy more kronos to get stuff.

I took a look at the vendor and there was an old hammer, price 30 nobles: 10/22 with effect Ykesha.

Cannot see that how it should be worth that

thing is, announcing prices may be adjusted in a couple weeks/months makes me not want to buy anything at all right now (other than the troll illusion obviously), and I'm pretty much the target audience of this npc since I play on FV and therefore have obscene amounts of plat.

there's a couple of the no-utility items that I'd like to get, but there's no point if there is a chance they may come down later.
  7. Stickietoes Augur

Err, this irks me. We aren't buying the items to use, we're buying for the sake of having it.
No, most things aren't worth that much. But we still buy it... why? for bragging rights, and rarity; of course.

I bought the Pre-Nerf Circlet of Shadow late 2012 for 410k, can I use it? NO, am I happy with it? very, It was a steal for that price.
Got so many tells from people asking why I paid for that much for something I can't use, It's annoying. Ask any collector that, you'll get the same answer.
  8. Stickietoes Augur

    Kronos are 17.99. 17.99 x 22 = 395.78 :p

Heh! and I just looted a sharkbone warhammer while doing druid epic on an alt.
By todays standards is junk, but way way back when it was my very first piece of awarded raid loot I treasured it. Rerolled to another server and don't know which old alt has original in their bank.

So looting another was such a kick even if it was off some irrelevant mob in a zone long forgotten.

Can't we post a complete listing of the items that can be offered on one of the affiliate source sites. At this point, the items I've seen linked don't interest me in the least, I'm not sure why any of them would interest anyone for that matter. Seems to me everything is way outdated and serves no real purpose anymore. I have only seen a handful of items though. I just keep scratching my head.

i think we are forgetting a serious issue , the only reason people wanted these items in the 1st place? because they no longer drop , and now they drop again ..... seems like the logic boat has left and we are still on the docks , the prices for these items were not because of how uber they are , el oh el
  12. Lorilei Journeyman

Okay, that makes things a little different. She's not just going to be around for a week or two, then gone forever, along with all her cool, overpriced stuff. It also sounds like adjustments will be made. Like anything put up in the bazaar, if Marcia can't sell something at her price, it sounds like she'll lower it.

Keeping interest in Marcia stirred up may be difficult, but once she starts selling really cool stuff at reasonable (okay, super high, but not holy-cow-what-are-they-thinking high??) rates, and people link it in /general, Marcia will be popular.

To all the people asking for these items to be made No Drop, it isn't going to happen. They are the exact same items (same itemid) as the original items which remained after the item stopped dropping, so if they were to make these no drop it would make the other ones No Drop as well. I also do not see the Devs wanting to duplicate all those items just because some people are wanting to sell their 'originals' for near the same price.

Personally, when I saw the first buyback prices when it was on Test I thought it was really too much, but that was more because the sell price was way too high. But now the buyback prices are so low compared to the sell price it is stupid to even do. If the NPC is not intended to get remove these items from circulation, then don't have it buyback at all. Just give us a list of the items she can sell in a random order.

It seems that the Devs and SOE keep coming up with cool new things like this but do a horrible job of implementing them. Nobles and now this NPC could have been implemented 1,000,000 times better if you had stopped and gotten a lot of input from the playerbase before even moving to implement them.

    ROSHEN,

Keeping items tradeable and keeping Marcia in game permanent is truly Inspired

Future possibilities for this vendor are limitless.

I would encourage some kind of contest / feedback to solicit items from the player base to be put into her inventory for sale!

Me, I would like to see a unlimited DA / DB item.

I, for one, can't wait to see where this goes. Groundbreaking idea IMHO!

    Respectively speaking, I agree.

Never say never. They have a NO TRADE version of Manastone on Old Man McKenzie. So a similar scheme is possible. The developers seem quite open to preserving the "old world character" of EverQuest especially after the Guise of the Ancient Gods debate.

In terms of implementation, they did have had lots of feedback under several "Casino" posts in the Veteran's Lounge. Though, they seem to have taken a totally different route. Aristo said in EQ Developer Chat that he was bringing this forward. Though, seems he hasn't been on the Forums in awhile. In general, communication seems to have been really hands-off before the release of anything.

Staff of Forbidden Rites is another NO TRADE classic item from OMM. A bunch of players have requested OMM Brews to be purchasable for in various Casino and Plat Sink posts. It would have been an easier, less controversial, and more useful implementation.

And guess what? Both of those items are NOT the same as the original. The items being sold on Shady here are the exact items which stopped dropping, and from my understanding there are quite a few of them. So no they won't be duplicating the identical items just to tack on No Drop.

My thought on this whole thing would be to revamp the whole idea: revamp the prices bringing them considerably more in line with what they would sell for in the normal market (perhaps with a 30-50% mark up), increase the buyback values to 1/2 of whatever she sells them for, keep it where she respawns with X nobles worth of product but then make it so that when someone has her buy back an item or item(s) she adds it to her available for sale list, and (if easily done) maintain the list of what players have sold to her until the server goes down again. That would increase the usefulness of her and give her prices which are much more reasonable. As it stands she is likely to further artificially increase the cost of Krono.

The game developers have final say. Players on both sides of the issue are very supportive of the NO TRADE flag. I have outlined compelling reasons in previous posts and it is worth repeating here.

    1. Close off market - NO TRADE flag will ensure that these items will not "flood the market" and/or deplete in value. This will allow the team make these items more affordable in the near future without fear of market forces.

    2. Maintain prestige for previous owners - NO TRADE flag will distinguish original drops from vendor-bought merchandise. Alleviating pressure from the parties concerned about their original collection.

    3. Further the plat sink - NO TRADE flag will force a limit on one item per character. Players will return to purchase items for their other alts and boxes. This will further the plat sink. (This is the same strategy as the lack of a Heirloom flag on Aspect of the Brood).

Furthermore, many players have expressed interest in only items of utility (i.e. Firestorm Cape, Earring of Living Slime). They put weight on utility (and affordability) than a small minority's concern for "droppable" status.

NO TRADE flag will be the trifecta that will resolve the majority of complaints.
  20. Xianzu_Monk_Tunare Augur

Players who seem to think that adding the flag to those items isn't going to affect anything but the ones on the NPC, that isn't the case it would affect all the existing items, and increase the amount of time required to implement this system.
    1. The market is not going to be flooded in any way shape or form by this NPC. If anything this NPC will cause the sale prices for any of those items to go up not down; seeing as how the NPC is selling them for 10-100x more than they have generally sold for before now.
    2. Considering that you are asking them to add a No Drop flag to the items, that means that the 'previous owners' could just as easily have bought it from other players. To be perfectly honest, I highly doubt that most people with these items today are looted them personally in most cases; as such they have no prestige to maintain.
    3. This one might work to a minimal degree, but it could just as easily backfire. I highly doubt that people are going to be dropping this kind of plat on their alts and boxes. They might on their mains, assuming that they would be able to pass it around if it lost value to the main at some later point. In all likelihood they would either be getting one for each toon or just one for their main regardless of the No Drop flag. Besides, their is already enough of an extra plat sink in the simple fact that it requires nobles to buy it.
We have no idea how many items are on Shady's list, until we do expecting them to just duplicate every item on it to make a no drop version of the exact same thing is not really that reasonable.
