Has Anybody Here Seen The Shadiest Swashbuckler?

I fail to see why folks are so excited/angry about this, it really comes across as nerd rage.

Outrageously expensive items which are worthless/near worthless for modern gameplay, other than for those who collect old items.

Folks, remember, these are JUST pixels on a screen. If Joebob wants to drop a huge amount of plat on the item, more power to him, as it's NOT like buying a piece of modern raid gear.

Modern raid gear will be obsolete with new expansions, but always available for those that want to get a group to go get it. There is no long term value there. Other than chest clickies, much of it will probably be tributed in the coming months. These items were removed to never return. They're artifacts that were assumed to have a diminishing supply. Why do people collect rare antiques and artwork in real life? These items are similar and appeal to people for the same reasons. For others, they're a trophy of days past. Seems like EQ is entering the modern world where everyone should get a trophy for showing up. Very sad.

Some nerds like tradeskills. Other nerds like raiding. A few like to do quests or PVP. The remaining nerds like to collect items that "No Longer Drop." You can have a mix of these.

From your post, it seems like you would have major reservations if "modern raid gear" were offered. The segment of the community who are collectors have reservations here. It's a healthy exchange. There is a lot of constructive feedback ilke applying a NO TRADE tag.

I understand. You want to keep all the goodies to yourself.

I gotta say that you DO have to reconsider your prices.

    I mean, a bag, 10 slot 85% wr. price 10 nobles.Thats around 1 mil 110k pp.

It seriously does not belong there at all, not even for 1 noble, not even for 1/10 of a noble.

Just a NO TRADE flag to distinguish original goodies from merchant goodies. :)

The greed with this one is just too stronk. Thankfully atm there is a anti greed vendor in the game. Sucks no one will do the same for RL.

Whats that simpsons episode where only bart can save springfield but only if everyone lets him take a bath in their food?

I'm almost certain you will want to respond. Because that how people like you are. So here is my response to whatever dumb logic you are going to try and come up with to justify the need to feel special. Because apparently your entire worth is about owning a few items. Items that for the most part don't even effect gameplay.

IT IS JUST A GAME. GET OVER IT.

What items has she had on her so far? Is there a thread that is keeping up with it?

@Roshen - Another idea, why didn't you just build this all into the Casino (That's sitting dormant like other things previously mentioned). Seems to be a trend... Thanks.

Only if they added a new higher tier of reward. Gold Tickets have been a joke for years now.

It is looking like only a dozen of Marcia's items are trade-able. It would not be prohibitively difficult to replicate the trade-able items and add NO TRADE to her wares. The market element would be out of the equation. It would pave the way for lower prices (and greater plat sink) across the board.

Who's to say? I'm much less inclined to purchase a no trade version than a tradable one. What if I want to pass a monk alt a Moss-Covered Twig to go along with my Efreeti Standard for kicks and giggles? How about handing down the items if I retire? My Warrior has no reason to have a CT root ear, but I *may* make a low level character in the future. Better yet, if i were to collect these items for house placement, i obviously dont want a giant *fake* branding on them. You know it, i know it, everyone knows it. You want to feel that you have the same item, not see a constant reminder that you dont. The idea is to get more original versions out there with limits daily to keep demand high and keep a slow flow for some time to come.

Get where im going with this? You'll see a huge decrease in interest, ultimately, if SoE does this. Im betting they wont for these exact reasons. I'm not saying the purchases will disappear entirely, but they would likely decline. With the entire purpose being the removal of platinum in EQ, you're proposing a decrease in efficiency of that very goal. The only reason to tag these items No Trade would be to preserve the vanity of the rare few current owners. Unfortunately, the need to remove platinum from the game to combat the massive inflation exists and trumps your vanity. There are no perfect solutions, but this one may be very effective and have no gameplay impact to speak of. There isn't widespread upset - only a very small group is talking about this. If it was a huge problem, you'd see a 200 page thread like pet nerfs had. This is minor at best. Nine out of ten people I talk to don't even know this NPC exists. That's probably because they don't have the plat to play in this realm either.

    1. "Less inclined to purchase a no trade version" - Why? The item offers the same utility. Demand is inelastic because of the unique effect - unlimited root or alliance. Players still show strong interest in purchasing items of utility which are NO TRADE - unlimited troll illusion or skill mods. A TRADEABLE Gem Encrusted Ring (no effect or skill mod) has little interest compared to the NO TRADE but utilitarian Firestorm Cape. The distinction does not hold.

*On a side note, the plat sink will and can remain the remain. Even better, a NO TRADE flag will allow developers to lower prices to appeal to a broader base (without concerns for the market). This will allow for increased quantity in sales - leading to higher overall plat sink.

    2. Vanity - You are flipping the "collector" (defense of the No Longer Dropped premise) argument to some weird "vanity" argument. Instead of vanity, others say greed. SEVEN DEADLY SINS! (Like new customers are perfect). First of all, the developers did not need to bring these items back (not these amount of items at least). What makes "new people in the market" entitled to anything? Suddenly, resistance to candy land (your counterfeit right to NO LONGER DROPPED) is considered vanity, greed, or what's next, gluttony?! The horror, the indignity!

    3. "This is minor." - The few players who try to refute my arguments always seem to think trivializing the situation further strengthens their argument. It's the final Hail-Mary pass for their flimsy rationale. Rather, that statement reflects "a new elite" - some handful of players who are quietly buying their way to old world bragging rights. Instead, I am attempting to broaden the appeal by defusing the market forces with the simple application of NO TRADE to pave the way for across-the-board cuts.

Not to mention how tragic it would be to drop 30mil on a notrade item for the wrong character.

If these were 10-20k items that might be different, but the ability to trade these items raises the value that they can be sold for, and likewise the amount of plat that can be removed from circulation.
  19. ZenMaster formless, shapeless

If you are about to drop 30 million and you are playing the wrong character - you kind of deserve it. lol. What about a mistake on Firestorm Cape? (/petition works).

I find it funny that the "prestige" part is being used to justify "higher prices" on a formerly No Longer Dropped item.

At this point, let the masses have access to it. Remove the market element with NO TRADE. Instead of one or two 30 million pp purchase of TRADEABLE Ornate Velium Pendant, you have 40 purchases of 2 million NO TRADE Ornate Velium Pendant. Much more defuse and opportunity-oriented. A perfect example of how a game mechanism like No Trade can mitigate criticism.

I sound like a Republican and Democrat saying that reforming healthcare regulations will lower health care costs.

....and that said, I want to see me some GM/GM event items.

Obviously not going to see CS Rez gloves, but a lot of the GM merchant gear has useful clickies that wouldn't be game-breaking in the hands of players (Guide health, levi, shrink, etc..)

I would definitely drop phat plat on these -
    Mask of the Devious
    Dark Elf Broadsword Ornament
