It's the Faux News era you don't need actual facts or sources for something to be true.:)

Are you really this thick-headed? I'm sure every PS3 user does not have a PS4 because we want to be some "anti-upgrade" posse...

Now excuse me while I go play Mike Tyson's Punchout.

I respectfully disagree and here is why...

Comparing the change from PS2 and PS3 is not the same as PS3 to PS4. PS2 did not have a MMO gaming marketshare, the PS3 does. Even still the biggest reason the PS2 was able to last that long is that the PS3 was presented as an entertainment system (that had substantial increase in quality of graphics.) Online gaming found its footing on the PS3 and has led us to where we are now. The PS4 takes MMO's to another level and anyone who tells you that their DCUO on their PS3 is just as awesome as it is on PS4 is lying. The problem is our beloved DCUO won't have the time that PS3 gave the PS2 because other online games have prepared for the technological advancement of the PS4 with the goals being the best/largest MMO bar none. This is the future, like it or not and many of us PS4 owners who love DCUO see the writing on the wall. DCUO needs to step it game up, plain and simple. PS4 owners know it, the Devs know it and PS3 owners know it (although many will continue to deny it). If DCUO restricts its advancement and capabilities by catering to PS3 gamers it will lose most of its current PS4 marketshare to other games. The DCUO community demands a constant stream new content that the PS3 does not have the capacity to continually support. So in the end, DCUO will lose valuable/profitable PS4 marketshare, catering to a PS3 base that is playing on a inevitably obsolete console. Competition will force DCUO to make some kind of decision much sooner than most anticipate, so be prepared. I don't want to sound "Doom and Gloom", but this is a cycle that repeats every-time a new console is introduced. The only difference this time is MMOs are the future of gaming and competition is fierce. The games coming out in the near future want a piece of the MMO pie and a few want all of it. DCUO can't afford to hold back it's potential awesomeness too much longer. That is the truth.

The Wright Brothers plane, I'm sure could still fly. It doesn't mean that you'd opt to ferry passengers around using one over a Boeing 737 though.

Your conclusion is way off, as well. Nobody thinks the game flopped during beta. What people are realising is that the game isn't going to get any better, technology wise, going forward. We're basically at the limits for memory as has been confirmed by the developers on several occasions and is the reason why features like Weapon Mastery and a lot of the powers/NPCs share the exact same animations and visuals.

The game has peaked in terms of it's maximum capabilities on the PS3. You won't see 16 player raids or characters such as Plastic Man because they simply can't do them (or do them properly) due to the limits of the PS3 and the policy on creating an equal game on all platforms.

The danger you run into of supporting a dated game which is pretty much at it's technological peak is that games around it have a chance to evolve, making this game look inferior and dated and therefore not enticing to play. Casuals love graphics. DC attracts a casual customer. DCUO does a good job at enticing casual gamers into playing an MMO experience. But with games like The Division and Destiny coming out that are visually striking and offer a similar MMO experience, the casuals are going to be unimpressed by how limited this game is and be put off playing it.

They're treading a dangerous path, really. I just hope they have a contingency.

Bail... Already did, made the move from PS to PC about a month and a half ago. Totally worth it such a better game on the PC.

Of course my friend. Those things will always take priority of console systems, but it is nice having a little "escape" every now and then. Now the positive thing about this technology cycle is that consoles become more efficient and cheaper during this process so I'm sure that PS4 price will drop (hopefully a few times) and we can get or 16 man raid going. ;-]

    16:19 for the overall discussion

18:27 "about double in terms of revenue coming in from the PS4 players"

18:48 "supporting it even more on the PS4 than they do on the PS3"

Straight from the horses mouth, too. Not a post by someone on the forums.

What? You were being disrespectful. I obliterated your argument. I simply provided you with the evidence you needed that basically confirmed the guy you were debating with was telling the truth.

There's obviously more going on then what this one person states or it would be completely illogical for them to continue to support the PS3. Also he was the one name calling.

Destiny!? Add ps4's ff14 to that as well. That's probably the best looking mmo console game that can remain as the best looking for years to come.

No Sir my point was that making statements without any proof or reference to backup ones claim is just wrong....Kudos to you for researching and putting up the info. Truth is the adversary of mis-information. NO ONE loses when truth and knowledge can be shared by all.

That "one person" is the creative director of DC Universe Online. So I'm pretty sure he has a good grasp on the situation.

It wouldn't be completely illogical for them to discontinue support. The PS3 obviously has the larger population and you don't cut them off 6 months (at the time the video was released) after the launch of a new console just because the new console is bringing more money in. It would be illogical to do so.

What if all the new PS4 players leave the game? I know a few who've only started playing since PS4 launch and have already left due to boredom. The PS3 population has been cut off and the PS4 population have lost interest. It's suicide to cut them off.

But that doesn't mean the PS3 version shouldn't be canned. It's holding back the game because the PS3 is technologically ancient. The Nokia 2760 sold 15,000,000 units in 2007 and was considered the best phone at the time. That phone can't do a tenth of what modern phones can do, even though it's only 7 years old. Technology progresses at an incredible rate. The PS3 is no exception. It's ancient. It can't keep up with the demands of modern gaming and as the demands of modern gaming become the "norm", players will be put off from trying DCUO or sticking around because of how dated it feels.

Would you have played a game on the PS3 that looked like an above-average PS2 game and was limited in features and things to do? Maybe. But the mainstream wouldn't and you alone, nor the niche audience it would attract, could support a game with a hefty license like a DC Comics license that requires servers, support staff, developers to keep new content being churned out etc. etc.

In conclusion, the PS3 is holding back the progression of the game. Progression is important to keep the casual market this game requires interested. If the visuals don't live up to expectations and game modes/mechanics/things to do don't enhance, casuals will lose interest very quickly. It would be in the best interest of the game to discontinue PS3 support soon, so they can make the game better, deeper and richer so that people are enticed to trying things out and stick around when they realise that the game changes and isn't just the same old, every new DLC, with a new skin over the top of it.
