Launching on Xbox One with zero advertisement?

Is this going to happen? DC Universe Online is not found in any of the DC comics I read, zero YouTube spots, zero television spots and nowhere to be found at retailers beyond the game time cards which are shoved to the back of the store with a giant Daybreak logo instead of DC Universe Online.

What's the plan, Daybreak? SWTOR released a CGI trailer 5 years with massive advertisement directed at their target consumers.

My suggestion, if you don't have the advertising resources then run a contest to make an advertisement for players. Include some Station Cash and a significant legendary membership.

Actually DCUO was advertised on Gamespots monthly article for January and possibly it may get advertised in Gamestops magazine hopefully.

If you are expecting tv advertisement then you are asking way too much. As the cost would exceed the benefit.

I am sure the Xbox Store will advertise it as new and pretty sure Microsoft will advertise along with beta testers doing livestreams as well.

I think thats enough advertisement as its not a re-release like ESO did on the consoles. Its a port.

    ESO was a port.

But ESO have Bethesda Sothworks, meanig a lot more money compared to Daybreak....I mean a lot more....

No ESO was a different game on consoles. If you played the PC version you can see that the tutorial, skill system, gameplay, UI and voice chat saw major improvements. I mean they launched the game with a completely new UI. PC players to this day were still mad that they didnt get the new UI and updates until months after console release.

Same was said for FFXIV with its PS4 controller mouse support and UI adjustments that do this day still dont exist on the PS3 version.

Porting the game to another console is 1 thing. Porting it with vastly great improvements and quality of life improvements is another.

Those games also had enough money to launch commercials for the port. FFXIV still have commercials on ESPN for their game and was the #1 selling MMO for the month of november and even sold out hardcopies in gamestop during BF weekend.

I did play ESO on the PC since the long term, 12 month closed beta around March of 2013 (the 1%) and the tutorial, skill system (Champ system and skill/buff overhaul were on PC 4 months before consoles) and gameplay were improvements made on the PC after launch first to port over to consoles. ESO is a port. Add-on developers for the PC client even had access to the console UI far before a console release date was murmured. It is not a completely different game. That's like saying the PS version of DCUO is completely different than the PC version.

That's why I offered a solution that could cut down on some of the creative resources required. Read the OP.

Ah ok another idea that could help a bunch from both sides is have a student contest with film makers and or game designers. I know this could be done well let me say this I know it is done in Japan a lot. They would have contest and the winners made ad would be publicized. I remember some company had students from music and animation departments make anime music videos and the winner got recognition things like that and the company got an ad out of it and awareness to their company.

I'm not sure what DCUO could do about that but it couldn't hurt to help.

Or they could beg for money its called kickstarter lol....

I think you worry about the wrong thing. If I was of major evil, I'd say let's remove all the youtube guides and the guides here and see how far a new player from xbox-land will get along in DCUO in its current state. Let's stop the time for the first xboxer to actually reach level 30; let's stop the time for the first xboxer to actually get an epic odissey feat; let's stop the time for the first xboxer to reach about max CR (prolly 160ish when it really goes live this spring already). But all of them without any guidance but what the game offers. There's no crossplay, so there's no one to carry the first ones.

See the problem? It's useless to run mass adds for a game that has a drop-out rate as high as DCUO currently has. The basic game - which is still the bait to get players in - needs lots of fixing of bugs etc. and lots of improved tutorials if it is to be accepted by the xbox crowd. I was trying to explain that here on the forums for a half a year now, and with goĆng to xbox it may come back to haunt the game: huge new crowd of players available but a lot of repulsive bugs and a lack of description inside the game itself - "where it belongs", Circe, ingame :p - already noticable in the F2P portion of it -> no new subscription, or at least significantly less than a solid basic game could create.

I do hope the devs get the game in shape before going to xbox. More money is a good thing - at least when Daybreak is allowed to re-invest it ;) - and a blockbuster license like DC needs that much money to open more possibilities to make more use of that license -> upward spiral, where we want to be instead of people getting fed up with the game due to "bad decisions", cutting in the money, less "new" content and more reused maps, more players leaving -> downward spiral, we're in that for a while now.

To get the most of the xbox in revenue, Daybreak should

    - fix the basic game: journal bugs, autostacking of looted soders in the equipped slot (consumable slot) bugged, NPCs (mission contact or bounties) floating to high to be reached for acrobatic or superspeed toons, briefings/investigations not updating correctly, new content breaking some old content -> this is all stuff a lot of us got used to, but is costing new players daily; and it will cost dearly on first contact with the xbox.

    - fix the early DLCs: with a completely fresh start on the xbox, this stuff will be "top" for a while for new players again and much more frequented; so basically, be prepared to have a lot of "old" stuff come up again in disappointment from the xboxers: "Why is Central City not a real city? Why is it so small? Why can't we PVP there? Why is there no open world content in Fight for the Light? Why is Coast City just an alert? Why does the game feel so different after level 30? Why can't I do the races at ACE chemicals without being killed?" etc. Basically, the devs going with the game in its current state but without current users to guide the new folks to the xbox is like Daffy saying "Let's run through this again" to Bugs.

    - have an exclusive welcome item for the xboxers who subscribe in the first month after release. Yes, I know: it would suck majorly for us users on PS and PC, but we have our unique server emblems, our back from the hack feat and cowl, auras that will not be rereleased. To soften things there can be an additional welcome item to all platforms, but the xboxers need an exclusive incentive to spend the first money - and nothing gets money flowing as fast as exclusive items when it comes to MMOs.

    - have a solid and well communicated schedule, and also no fear of falling behind it, changing release dates due to quality management. DCUO has that "toxic community" label all over the web, but that will not transfer to the xbox - unless people there want to behave as toxic and try to build a "replica community" ;) DCUO also has a bad rep when it comes to customer service, build this up largely in the past year. They should fight that bad rep from the start, provide good service as well as clear statements to avoid some of the trouble we had here.

    - and after all that, an advertising campaign starts to make sense; not before having a quality product. Do it vice versa and you just generate disappointed or ecen disgusted customers. You may generate a peak in one time business after release if you just have the adds but no good product, but you will miss out on lots of repeat business.

You know what's funny. I've asked some employees at a couple gamestops if they had any Daybreak cash cards. They were like 'What's Daybreak?"

In store marketing could use work. There's a good portion of players who don't read gaming magazine or read on gaming websites, they just play.

I believe their Brand Manager Eric Duncan left the company back in June of 2015. That could have an impact on what we're seeing now.

This is really unnecessary especially for a free to play game. It is getting enough advertisments on websites. And it will be advertised on xbox live. They don't need to go to gamestop, walmart, target, best buy, etc to advertise. And they definitely don't need a tv spot. I am going to go with daybreak silent no to this. It's a really dumb idea.

It's getting enough publicity as it is, and it was only roughly 3 days ago when third parties starting talking about this.
  13. Lionxoft Committed Player

I've never seen a targeted advertisement for DCUO. Can you link them? Thanks. Also, if you bothered to read the OP you'd recognize that it's actually a smart decisions. Being able to cut ad creative resources and have players spread their advertising through the social media channels? For some station cash and a membership. One sub. Uno. Ein.
  14. scotv453 Well-Known Player

What are you talking about targeted. Do a google search. Go to some of the big names. You will see them having a spot mentioning that its coming to xbox.
  15. Lionxoft Committed Player

Link it. I am not seeing anything of the sort.
  16. scotv453 Well-Known Player

I am not going to do the job of someone being lazy. And I know for a fact you didn't. First 4 websites i used in google popped up. And as mentioned before, I silently agree with daybreak. This won't happen. So move it along.
  17. Lionxoft Committed Player

Not even on the Xbox One page. The only person being lazy (or possibly dishonest) is you, bud. Time will tell whether or not they should have "silently" agreed with you. Again, I know throwing insults around without reading context is your "thing" but the cost of the proposed contest in the OP would cost them less than $100 at retail cost which actual cost would be far less.

Where is DCUO on this page? It doesn't show anything relevant searching ctrl+f4 ->"DC".

Ok. I know that reading isn't your fuerte but did you see DC Universe Online on this page? Anyone can blog about DC Universe Online which a lot of what you linked is just that. A blog. So my suggestion up in the original post isn't looking too bad.

    http://www.gamespot.com/xbox-one/

    Learn2Read.

Kotaku doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
Gamespot doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL and neither in the Xbox One section. Absolutely zero.
EuroGamer lists them but it's a feed at the bottom which is not a feature ad space at all.
MMOBomb doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
MMOgames.com doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
*********** doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
Gameplanet doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
Xbox Achievements doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
The xbox one reddit doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL. Absolutely zero.
IGN doesn't list the DCUO announcements on their front page at ALL or in their Xbox One section. Absolutely zero.

So in other words you're saying that the person needs to be searching for DC Universe Online specifically to find information about it or for it to even draw an impression.
