Hello DCUO! Please take a moment to catch up on the latest news and announcements in this development update. Today, we'll update you on the status of our current plans, share a few new initiatives, and then look ahead to our focus next year, including:
    • Episode 27
    • Open Episodes
    • What’s Next: 2017
    • New Anniversary Event: The Anti-Monitor
Episode 27: Amazon Fury Part III

Amazon Fury Part III has launched, bringing us back to large content releases. We are so encouraged by the early response, and we are so excited to be back making this kind of content. If you’re not already playing this Episode, get on it. This is not one to miss.

Learn more about Episode 27 here.

    Open Episodes Return

This summer was such a hit, we just had to do it again. Open Episodes are back for the rest of 2016! That means anyone can play (almost) any of the game’s content, regardless of whether or not they own it or have membership. Those who do not will have extended loot lockout times. (Note, Episode 27 is NOT included in Open Episodes.)

"I love open episodes because it allows everyone to experience the great content we have at upper levels. And friends can invite their friends into the game without any fear of barriers.”” -- Jack "Jackster" Emmert, Studio CEO

For more information, see the Open Episodes announcement post here.

    What's Next: 2017

Looking ahead, our previously announced plans remain unchanged from the last development update, but we would like to give you more insight into what we’re focusing on as we approach 2017.

    Focus: Launch Large Content Releases

First, just to doubly reiterate, we are continuing development on large content releases (Episodes), similar to what you are experiencing with Amazon Fury Part III. We know how important new story, new characters, and new primary progression is to everyone’s fun in the game.

We are very pleased so far with the new gear system implemented in Episode 27. While we are looking at feedback for minor improvements, the core concepts of the best gear being on the vendor, auto-leveling dropped gear, and so on, remains the plan going forward.

    Focus: The Stats Revamp

As you know, the stats revamp work is ongoing. We had originally hoped there might be some chance for the revamp to occur before Episode 27, but discovered additional work in several areas, including some in addressing your early feedback.

Here’s what we have accomplished so far:

    Revamp all player stats. READY
Revamp all item and gear stats. READY
    Revamp all NPC stats. READY
Remove Advanced Mechanics and Weapon Mastery bonus damage. READY
    Remove Power Points. READY

Here’s what still needs development time:

    Enhance Supercharges
    Modify Power and Power Regeneration
Adjust powers based on the removal of Advanced Mechanics bonus damage

The plan right now is to complete work on three powers - Mental, Ice, and Electricity (one of each role) - and then move that build to the test server to begin testing the revamp overall. At that point, players will be able to form complete and balanced groups with these three powers and play through the game’s content on test.

This will primarily help us start to identify problem areas in the content itself. Also, it will allow us to get early feedback on the power adjustments, so that we can address and incorporate that feedback as we complete the rest of the powers. From there, we expect to wrap up the rest of the stats revamp and continue to deepen the overall progression system.

Next year, one of our major goals is to create horizontal progression. We want to create more choices and more avenues of success. We want you to increase the breadth of your character, not just your Combat Rating. Of course we will still keep vertical progression at the heart of the game, but who doesn’t like more choices?” -- Michael "Avair" Mann, Lead Systems Designer

We are incredibly excited about this, but we are not far enough in development yet to share more in the way of specific details. We eagerly look forward to being able to do so next year.

    Focus: Create New Limited-Time Events

We do have a confession to make. We have been working on a little surprise for everyone. In addition to large content releases, we are also working on new limited-time events. These events will launch, be playable for a period of time, retire for a period of time, and then return later – perhaps yearly, perhaps more often. With this, we will continue our mantra of trying new things.

Events make logging in every day that much more special; I know that I’ve got to complete that event before it ends!” -- Jack "Jackster" Emmert, Studio CEO

Now, you might be thinking that sounds a lot like our seasonal events. In some ways, yes, but in other ways, not at all. These events will be more substantive – as in real, engaging content to play – accessible to virtually the entire player population, dripping with cool new rewards, and provide even more to do between each large content release.

    For example:

    New Anniversary Event: The Anti-Monitor

Surprise! We always like to give a little gift to our players at the anniversary, but this year we really wanted to step it up. An item? No. A style? Not good enough. Content? Yes. Let's do that.

This January will see the launch of the first of these new limited-time events in celebration of DC Universe Online’s 6th anniversary, and we’re here to spoil virtually everything about it right now. If spoilers aren’t your thing, turn back now!

The Anti-Monitor is one of the most dangerous entities in the Multiverse. When something major happens in DC, it often involves this guy. He is literally capable of destroying entire Universes by breaking it apart into anti-matter, brick by brick, and now he has his sights set on ours! The endless instability of our timeline, thanks to Future Batman, Future Lex Luthor, and crisis after crisis, has drawn his deadly stare.” -- SJ "NerdOfPrey" Mueller, Creative Director

"When we first were designing the new anniversary event, I asked myself – what is the one villain that EVERYONE in the DC Universe, good and evil, united to battle? Who threatened the very existence of the DC world? The answer was obvious: the Anti-Monitor! -- Jack "Jackster" Emmert, Studio CEO

  2. BumblingB I got better.

The raids are daily? Is it also replayable?

Everyone gets scaled to 230, but a level 5 doesn't gain all the proper powers. Wouldn't a raid cause some problems?

Are we not getting a being legendary thank you gift this year?

On live? No. This is just on test. They can get the stats revamp on test faster this way if they only have to complete work on three powers initially rather than 14.

Lovely news. Good to see Stats Matters nearly being ready and finally fighting Anti-Monitor. The idea of having timed "DLCs" in between "real DLCs" will keep the game active and ensure people are still logging in towards the later months of a DLC. Love it! For a second I thought we were getting a new gear set and that would have definitely caused problems, good to see DCUO foreseeing problems and making it as good as the current purple gear. I just hope the content will be challenging but I wouldn't be surprised if it's overly easy with level 5 players having access to the raid. Having everyone scaled to the same CR will be great though as now the devs won't have to think about people just entering the content with minimum CR and people entering it with maximum CR and trying to find a balance. Can't wait!

I think what I like most about this event is that it's for all players any cr and level, not just end tier players. It's a good thing to add new content for the lower cr folks too.

Only to the test server to expedite testing. The live update will be everything.

ok, i can see that but still... not happy about how long it's gonna be before [if EVER] my main [with 240+ sp] is able to frigging run solos at level without giant pain or get into groups.

Really excited for the event, but at the same time I'm a little bit underwhelmed.

I love the idea that it's a one shot storyline, contained entirely within this instance. Last time you did that (League of Assassins Stronghold) you created one of my favourite instances in all of DCUO. I'm glad you're doing this, because it allows you to introduce new characters and stories without having to base an entire episode around them. Antimonitor looks great and the new map does, too.

However, what leaves me underwhelmed is the fact that this is an event and is open to pretty much all players. More specifically, the raid. I don't have a problem with the non-raid aspects of the event being available to all, but in my opinion, you've missed a great opportunity to right a wrong in Amazon Fury part 3.

This raid should have been targeted at the end-game population, specifically those who have been working towards the best gear in Amazon Fury Part 3. This raid should be extremely challenging and basically require a CR of 188 or above for players to even stand a realistic chance of beating it.

One of AF3's complaints is that you've finally given us a great progression system and righted all the wrongs from the past few years of RNG hell, but we still don't have anything to test this new gear in (except Survival Mode). This raid, which is completely unrelated to progression (and therefore it doesn't matter if players can beat it or not), would have been an ideal opportunity to create that tough, story-driven content people are looking for, without creating blockades for people trying to obtain the best gear.

I'm not 100% against non-end game/low CR players being involved in this event, but I think they should be limited to just the outside portions.

Whilst I don't expect major changes for this iteration and I'm still looking forward to playing it, I think in the future, if you're looking to continue doing these types of events, they should be used to help keep the end-game player on board and engaged by putting the gear they're working hard towards getting to the test.

    Good news, though.

So in MMO terms it's an expansion of sorts? Complete the lore with Braniac (or don't) and then off to Anti-Monitor?

I have to disagree, one of the biggest complaints amongst the community is cr discrimination and being excluded. I'm glad anyone any cr will be able to run the event, helps bring the community together. Us end tier players will have SM as our hardcore content.

sounds good but I want to see this in action.

Question, because lord knows the stream will be saturated, will those be the only 3 powers with the stats changes or will the others have unfinished versions, meaning will we have to get one of those 3 toons to start testing?, also will the change be only for their role or dps side too?, and lastly given how complicated using combo powers is (and how bad their revamps have been) can at least 1 be added to that list?.

    Now to the second part.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See had you guys said something else was in the works during the time between content releases then we wouldn't have pretty much made Home Depot run out of pitchforks. The game always needed this, mini events that allowed players to divide their time in between content so we wouldn't be burnt within months. Sure we always had seasonals but those are too few in between and very short (and their feats are easy to get, even the base item ones), and we have SM, but even that's for a different crowd that has the hours to put into it. But this, we needed this and since everyone can do it (given I'm sure some account restrictions will apply) it opens up content for players that are both farming new content but also doing other things making their way to it, but now we have something current and relevant to keep us busy while some grind, or people who burned replay or bought Shim'Tar gear and leveled up faster have something else to do while they farm the lower stuff, like crafting and R&D feats.
