To the op .. do what I did .. don’t buy it .. I needed nothing in those bundles and the material isn’t worth 200 to me so I didn’t buy it … it’s that easy

People spend $200 on Replay Badges and catalysts just to get to max CR/max augments within a new Episode's first month. There are sillier things to blow your money on than this... and I mean in DCUO.

$200 for a bunch of in-game resources and the Shaded Comic Material is alright, all things considered. You bypass any RNG and obtain one of the hottest cosmetics around. Consider it a holiday treat for yourself. And if you're on Playstation you can save money by: getting discounted PSN Cards from retailers (Black Friday deals) and by buying the 15,000 Marketplace Cash bundle. That right there is a minimum savings of $60.

Doubtful. More likely they'd have a return visit of the 'remix' bundle in a year or so, giving us another shot at the 'best' BB stuff like before. Comic would be in that more than likely, and people will gamble $200 then all while complaining about the $200 'bonus' one now.

I think the C in DCUO is 'Casino' for some.

Not worth it...but for those who think it is, and pony the funds for it...

Thank you for supporting the game.

    Exactly

If it doesn't sell they will not do it again - if it is does, well then they will.

I am genuinely so curious about how many souls fell for this that I would spend 20 bucks to see the sales record.

We should all appreciate them though for keeping our game alive, I guess.

Might be worth it after a graphical update, but currently I wouldn’t even think about doing this with the game’s current graphical limitations. To many style clipping issues. Maybe if it was unlock-able on other characters or sellable in the broker but not till then

you're right, but the point stands. you still get a whole bunch of other stuff. it's not 200 sovs for just the shaded. what you do with that stuff's on you.

royal you, again. not you you.

also, small confession. I don't actually like the shaded. I don't get the hype at all. we've got plenty of other much better in-game materials that are way easier to get, & a whole lot cheaper. if I got one, I'd just sell it ( if that was an option ), or ( if not ) it'd just get consumed & never used.

It's not the material that is stupid, but Daybreak's abhorrent practice of looking to make money a large sum of money on a rare object and desired by many players, I thought it had bought itself a better mentality since they allowed to get the Superman emblem in an unexpected and for once honest way, but finally, I got it wrong, they will not change their bad reputation...

I wouldn't have said anything if you had to buy this material for twenty euros or something like that at the IG store, but having to drop 170€ to be entitled to get it, it's pure grotesque and repugnant blackmail!

I can drop money in a video game, it's not a problem even for cosmetics, but only when the commercial practice is honest...

For already cheaper on other games and even half cheaper this is already equivalent to an extension lol

Lol... If they did that, players would simply stop caring about it. They only care about things like this, or those stupid "OG" auras, because they're rare. There are thousands of cosmetics in the game, most of them easily and cheaply available. If some people are dumb enough to shell out this much money for this particular one - assuming they don't need any of the badges, art XP, ally favor, tradeable cosmetics and everything else included in the bundles - they have only themselves to blame. And/or their parents.

I repeat - nobody actually needs it, it doesn't even affect gameplay. And people, who think they need it and should be entitled to it need to grow up. Especially that the game is quite long in the tooth at this point and when it shuts down, all the cosmetics will be worth precisely $0.

No. Blackmail involves coercion and things that matter. This is more of a marketing ploy, that exploits stupidity and lack of common sense. Still - people get all that other stuff, which can improve their game, so it's not even that egregious, as far as game monetization goes.

    Why is it "abhorrent"?

This is how capitalism and business work. It's called "charging what enough people will pay."
What, specifically, is "dishonest" about offering something for sale? You don't want to spend that much? Don't. Where's the dishonesty?

The most expensive restaurants in the world charge $500-$2000 for a single meal. Is that "dishonest"?

The most expensive hotels in the world charge thousands of dollars for a single night. "Dishonest"?

Want one of the 50 most expensive new cars in the world? You'll need to spend millions of dollars, or in some cases, tens of millions of dollars.

Perhaps capitalism and its extremes are deplorable -- I wouldn't argue -- but what's criticizable in that case is the economic system.

If you're okay with capitalism in general, what's your beef with Daybreak acting like like a typical company does?

"I can't afford it" or "I don't want to spend that much" does not make an object for sale somehow "dishonest."

If the restaurant was McDonald's.... as they sold a "THE GREATEST HAPPY MEAL EVER" for $500 a pop that offered nothing more than the average meal but in a prettier box....

I'm sure some would see this a "dishonest" tactic designed to get children spending more money than they should....

I probably spent close to $200 when it first came out from the drop. And you are paying for the material only. Only thing worth from the bundle are replays this booster bundle is trash and so was the one before

People obsessing over some tacky cosmetic make me feel like an adult... :D

Did you know that in Champions Online the game launched with the option to turn comic shaders (called black outline) on and off from the options menu… for free. Ridiculous the amount of money (real or not) spent to have the same effect on 1 toon in DCUO

The Black Ethereal material make a pretty good Rorschach. ;)

Agree about the "you're getting the bundles plus a material you don't have to gamble for"
But, there's no way to preview the material (or any other material for that matter) on your character, is there?
  19. Drewbolt Greatest Healer of this Generation

I'm just unhappy that materials aren't unlockable styles on alts.

Sadly.... no miracle right now... you have to go to Youtube to check materials at this point. :(
It's not perfect... but it is the option we have right now.
