YES! When they sort out the optimization to acceptable levels, I'll buy myself a gun or two... even though they're doing that mostly to get it running on PS4, heh.

That's definitely what it is. They realized that the PS4 launch is three months away and they're going to have to scramble for optimization fixes. Really if it's so "unacceptable," then why didn't they fix it earlier? It's all so transparent.

This has always been about getting the PS4 version right from the get go and can you blame them really?
I have been affected by the drop in fps recently to the stage I don't really play much at the moment and I'm glad there going to try and fix that because it is the most important thing at the moment...

This was never a beta for the PC it is a beta for the PS4 the sooner people accept that the better

I will not be suprised when i see the game chug on like Killzone for the PS2 ... not at all suprised
  7. THUGGERNAUT

exactly. it's been lip service from launch day, but when the almighty PS4 launch date is announced, suddenly the game (or more accurately, the engine that's going to run EQnext) gets attention from Smed himself.

proof positive that we've all been glorified beta testers for the PS4 version of this game & EQNext, and soon to be redheaded stepchildren.

What ever they did the last week has made the game unplayable for me.
I have never had any problems after i fixed the settings!
Have always had around 50-60 fps all the time. But now i get 20-30 fps with no changes in my settings!
I have tried lowering my settings with not much effect! The game also freezes and then i get Error G21, i have reinstalled the game about 3 times with no change.

Whatever you guys did it ****** everything up...... -.-

Disable the HUD and report back ... might be suprised
  10. jihon83

Ugh, even with disabling the HUD and even disabling my SLI, my frames are still dropping down to 0 when moving. It's an incredibly annoying problem. I may have to take a break from PS2 until these optimization efforts start showing up because I can't play an FPS with this kind of stuttering when TTK is measured in fractions of a second. So I hope the optimization updates come soon. I don't want to give up on the game, but if I can't have a stable frame rate, even in the 20's or 30's, it's pointless to play an FPS.

Ah hahaha i just noticed this was posted in Nov 2012....what a crock

It's a shame, yes. Not a single echo in the official forums since the initial posting a year ago.

I mean they had all the indicators that something is going very very wrong, since beta players were complaining a lot about performance.

Did SOE really listen? I believe not. Or they simply didn't take it seriously, didn't try to solve this particular problem vehemently enough by seeking new paths because I can't see any real improvements after all this time in performance.

I believe there are mainly two types of gamers: the passionate ones with beefy computers, the newest hardware, ready to spend a lot of money on games they adore. If you are running a F2P model you want these ones at all costs playing your product because they tend to spend silly amounts of money. And on the other side is the more casual gamer with not so much free spare time, who just buys sometimes a shortcut and hasn't got the latest hardware.

Even on the best computers out there Planetside 2 doesn't run well in situations that the game is all about: in large scale battles. I mean the hardcore gamer even turns down details in titles that demand little, like CS:S, just to get the absolute maximum fps. And SOE creates a game that is limited to 20 to 30 fps in heavy battles even on the latest and fastest and heavily overclocked CPUs because they see no need to use the latest technology like DX11 to optimize performance? That simply scares away any player who's seriously into shooter games because any advanced coordination skill relies on high and steady frames per second. At some degree of performance problems skill is replaced by luck and this happens way to often in Planetside 2 because it plays so terribly sluggish in way too many situations. On less strong machines of casual gamers it's completely unplayable, even if they may tolerate lower standards. So SOE loses them all.

In two months there will be Battlefield 4. It will look better, it will run a lot better, even on weaker computers. And it will keep the target group of Planetside 2 entertained for quite a while. Of course it misses the really large scale battles, but who will care as long as they aren't really playable in Planetside 2? I don't want to know how many players already left because they got frustrated with performance. I know some and I'm one of them. I checked back now after half a year, just to quit again now (just uninstalled) because when I'm getting upset about the game itself and its uncontrollable mechanics, especially while being at larger fights in biolabs or amp stations, it's not worth my time nor my money. My Alpha Squad bonus is running out, didn't make much use of it because of the break, so that's it for now.

The worst thing is that SOE manages it to make things even worse, like breaking SLI recently. No statement here in the official forums, just players who report that support says that SLI isn't supported. Very helpful. Not that I'm affected, I just wonder again about that messy HUD which seems to be part of the problem and also had performance problems since beta. SOE has got a fantastic talent to scare away certain groups of players, one by one.

TotalBiscuit did a video nearly a year ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E20z928GjoE&html5=1&hd=1

Some things were fixed, the really important one he's most furious about - performance of course - not. SOE should have put focus on performance, and maybe performance only, back then, not a year later.

Planetside 2 has so much potential, I really like the concept and atmosphere, but I won't buy a new computer to overclock it to the very limits (my i7 @3,6 ghz with 16 gig ram is still fine), just to expand the number of situations that remain playable with enough fps but without resolving the underlying problem.

By the way: what about a more detailed official statement, not this Twitter fiddle-faddle? Are some specialist hired? Will the engine be ported to DX11? When can it be tested? Whats the ETA for first results?

I'll keep an eye on Planetside 2 but if SOE doesn't manage it to change some things regarding performance in the near future fundamentally I'll lose my interest pretty quickly.

I concur with the above statement, though I may resist Battlefield 4 as I'm no fan of EA, but PS2's performance isn't doing itself any favors. The game has a lot of potential and hooks, but it seems like the technical side is ruining its core as an FPS. I love the idea of massive fights and find charm in the story and visual design, but that doesn't amount to much if, when I actually try to participate in a fight, I'm either seeing a slideshow or just a single frame that leads into the "respawn" window, which tends to slap me in the face by suddenly jumping back up with the frame rate. If I can't shoot because I can't see, there's not much point to playing any shooter game, even one that's as enticing as PS2. And, soon, if this game is still giving me similarly stilted performance, there's a good chance it will lose its luster compared to rivals like Destiny or Titanfall, if their developers are learning from both the successes of PS2's theme and design; and its missteps on the technology-side.

Just to say I have a GTX690 and have 20-35 fps in heavy fight (everything on High setting, with fog shadow & ambient occlusion ON, no Vsync (I experience very few tearing) and no PhysX (make the game unstable for me). Since GTX690 is working in SLI mode, I disabled one core from the Nvidia control panel and I have now 40-55 fps in the same heavy fight with only one core ! So, dont tell me this game work well with a SLI setup ! I have an I7 with windows 7, my friend have an I5 with windows 8 and a GTX660... I dont know why, but his frame rate is always 15-25 better than me when we're standing and looking at same place.
  15. missionAvs

Yeah this game is an unoptimized mess ATM. My setup is more than capable of running it. I have an i7-3930k @ 3.8ghz with 2 GTX TITAN's in SLI running at 1920x1200. Without SLI, the game runs much better but even so, in heavy battles, the game always freezes and crashes. Honestly Sony should refund me my 7 day boost I bought yesterday because I haven't even been able to use it properly. Disappointing to say the least.
  16. ZZZRonin

Try turning off PhysX, the game will be much more stable. Another important thing I found, open your task manager, and kill all application not needed to play this game. You can easily get 10-20 more frame depend on you processor and application you have.
  17. dreamcast87

Disable SLi and set your 2nd GPU to handle Physx. Doing this smoothed out my gameplay even in the 4+ platoon biolab fights. You might want to try the Geforce Experience Program as well using the optimize settings made the game runs very well for me. I'm using the most recent beta drivers as well. (your Sli Titan make me green with envy :p)
  18. missionAvs

Well definitely made the game more stable, although it is kind of a drag that I have to disable SLI every time I want to play PS2. Before, I had assigned PS2 a profile on NVCP and had it so that the game ran on 1 GPU but I guess that's not enough, you have to manually disable SLI and reactivate it when your done playing. Thanks for the help though, at least the game doesn't crash anymore :). Oh and in other news, I now have the most overkill Physx card on the market lol.

Glad you got it working pass the tip on to other SLi users if you see them having similar performance issues

I think if they even talk about all the changes for this year, then no one will understand a word.
They know that something is wrong. They do not know exactly how to fix it.
They use DX9 because the difference in performance is almost there. In fact DX11 a little worse. Of course you did not know that.
If we talk about skill, fps does not play a major role here. Higher fps only help to aim faster. But there are many ways to kill the enemy is not taking aim. Skilled players know them all.
Show me biggest BF4 map. Show me how 300 players play on this map at the same time.
Battlefield in fact does not represent anything outstanding. They were first who made shooter with tanks and planes and that made them famous. Gameplay hasnt changed for many years, they just improve the graphics and sell the same thing many times. If you want to eat the same food in a new wrapper, do it. But do not bring it as an example of which shall be equal to the PS2.

Everyone wants somebody to do something somehow. I'm sure if you tell them exactly how to improve the performance, they do. But problem lies in the main game feature - it massive multiplayer shooter. If you look at other MMO, most of them are mouseclick based. But in first person shooters you need to react fast. And this means that the world around you should frequently updated. So you CPU must process hundreds of models, angles of each turret and tank tower, update dozens of timers. And only after this it start to check conditions. If someone walk around walk sound must be loaded and played. If there was an explosion, explosion sound should to be played with the volume depending on the distance. And only now we start to process bullets. And when it finished we got a frame. No matter what will we use to render this frame. DX9, DX11 or OpenGL, it will be displayed only after the above procedure. This is about thousand threads, maybe more. I think thats why nobody try to make MMO shooter before. Too much data, too many objects for processing. Too difficult to synchronize.
Every time when somebody talk about low fps, they believe that it is necessary to port render to DX11 and all be perfect. But 99% of players are limited by CPU, not GPU. So how do you think new GPU render make you CPU work faster? It dont.
Personally, I doubt that with this amount of content is possible to obtain consistently high fps. But if they still work, maybe they think that there is a chance. Maybe they know something that I do not even know. Even if they fail, I believe they will apply their experience and take into account all the mistakes in Planetside 3. Or someone more skilled will try to create something similar.

In any case it's free for all:)
