Planetside 2 is a great game! :D

They made a lot of improvements in many directions since beta/launch, but the big debate which creates the divide we see today in people being happy and unhappy with the game, comes mainly from the zerg funnel lattice changes, as well as the terrain changes that come with it. Indar is practically a ghost town on some servers while Esamir often has a queue to play on it, which speaks volumes.

So in my opinion, the game is still great, on Esamir and Amerish. Once the lattice hits these two maps (even with the large amount of complaints that go unheard, the Esamir lattice roadmap has 1/3rd voting no even while not many people read forums), I fear the fun will be gone for many players including myself.

Personally I stayed because I was hopeful for change towards tactics. But it's still a game about farming ad it's just silly. I only play in bursts now which I'm not used to at all.

PS2 looks like a cash grab at the moment. Its a great game for the dev team, they found idiots willing to pay $20 for one gun FFS.

PS2 right now looks like a let down from a PS1 players perspective. I am sure it will be great in 2 years, but by then BF will have come up with the same large scale idea and SOE will be SOL.
  4. IamDH

Yeah we seriously need an aim other than killing people. The "scale" of the game wears off after a while

  5. ExarRazor

no. SoE took a great game, a dumbed it down to appeal to the cod/BF crowd.

this game is planetside in NAME only.
  6. BloodMonarch

And yet you still come and post on the forums.......interesting...

They made an okay game with elements that need to be improved to make it great. I spent hundreds before they started tampering with the fundamentals of this game ie: team based, squad based outfit play with combined arms.

Now it's becoming just another infantry only game and it's sickening me.
  8. Jachim

He is allowed to be passionate about the game even if he doesn't play any longer. This game was good until they began focusing on infantry only and sucking up to MLG.
  9. Roarboar

Which is your personal opinion, there are only 3 things that are absolutely wrong with the game.
1: NC max shotgun damage still way too high.
2: c4 damage way too high
3: Max resource cost is too high
  10. Bolticus

They found generous people who spent $14 extra to support the game.
It was a purely cosmetic change for the weapon, yet people bought it knowing that. That speaks a lot about how much people want Planetside 2 to move forward.

I am in love with Planetside 2. I never thought I would enjoy a F2P game, ever. It did take a long time for the game to grow on me, but the damage is done, and I am hooked. Tried the beta, and a couple times since then. I've now been active since Feb.

I was primarily a Battlefield & Halo player when it came to FPS. I boycotted CoD after the Infinity Ward shake-down after MW:2. Planetside 2 embodies everything I have ever really wanted from a game this size and scale. Thats not to say I have my gripes, along with everyone else, but at the end of the day I log my hours, and have a lot of fun doing them.

The fact that it's an evolving MMO with an active and listening Dev team makes it that much better. They will never be able to please everyone, and I'm sure after long enough they may wind up implementing some feature that makes me unhappy. For now my only gripe is the VS pop on Mattherson. Regardless my outfit works our way around it well, and we still find chances to reach the VS Warpgate on Indar. We've even had some really fun NC Alert victories here and there.

I get excited when I look at the roadmap, and am happy to have such a fun and fulfilling game to spend time in.

    1. I used to play a lot more, because the game has gotten progressively worse. Since GU11, I have barely played.

    2. The game's performance has diminished over time. They release patch after patch of game breaking bugs, instead of fixing the bugs they already have.

    3. Been playing TF2 for years continuously. Played lots of other games for years too. This game is starting to lose its appeal, especially with updates like GU11. Goldeneye has better FPS controls and dynamics than this game does, and it's older than a lot of the people who play PS2!

    4. I've spent tons of money on TF2, and even on Spiral Knights... I've spent $50 at most on this game, most of which was in the form of giving money to my friend so he could boost his account up to my level.

SOE's lazy, cookie cutter customer service has made me NOT want to spend any money on this game. Locking that thread earlier instead of moving it is a perfect example.

The lack of responses to threads about serious technical issues like the GPU overheating bugs and telling people to hack their own computers and delete a bunch of files because their validate tool doesn't work, or giving them the same cookie-cutter response of "submit a ticket" while tons of people are posting about the same issue, and it doesn't get fixed for months anyway is just ridiculous.

I don't mind spending money, even on F2P games(spent hundreds on TF2 and SK). I do mind spending money if I regret my purchase.

Between the poor customer support and the direction the game is going in have made me realize that spending any more money on this game than I already have will be something I'll regret.

I can not imagine subscribing to this game, as it works half the time, and changes into basically a different broken game from GU to GU. Have fun playing CoD in space for $50 a month or whatever! LOL

Yepp, there's no game quite like Planetside 2, and I mean that in a good way. It is rare to find a game, and community(Miller), which captivates you in this way. In many ways I am reminded of the good old days of EQ1. I'm not going anywhere any time soon.

As someone who played PS1 from the start (Good old Konried) I can honestly say I really do like PS2. All things considered.

First I will say this. The most disapointing aspect of PS2 is the class system. I really miss the modular inventory of PS1. Really, the freedom to carry as many boomers(c4) as you wanted with out worrying about your class was great (you used to be able to lay as many as you wanted, even to the point of crashing a continent server when you detonated them).

Okay, so I miss that. What I don't miss is the memory leak that got worse every patch. For a while PS2 had a bad case of stuttering that got worse with patches. It was fixed, at least for a majority of players. Even ADADAD straffing was addressed to a point. The combat in PS1... while very involved and free was hurt by very poor net code, think those agile exosuit guys warping up tower stairs...

TTK in PS1 was also much longer, however there was much more in the way of indirect fire weapons. There also was no such thing as headshots. You can argue about which you think is better either way, my point is that a lot of what we wanted in PS1 was put into PS2. Yes, there's a lot missing that worked real well in PS1 too, however a lot of ground is being made up with these GU's. Which, I might add, are coming rather frequently and mostly bug free or the bugs are fixed. There's a lot to get done (if only we could get caves!) but theres progress, and for me I enjoy the game. Get us Hossin, more vehicles and a weapons lock sanctuary!

Planetside is a great game if you fancy battles with uneven numbers and therefore shooting spawn room force fields for 5-10 minutes at the time three times in an hour.

Seriously, the game has a lot of potential. It has plenty of stuff done properly, but when the most important part aka game play is such mindless, unchallenging, piece-of-****, one can't really call it a great game, can one? Let's be honest here - if the corner stone of the game is built from cardboard you can't really expect the game to be anything other than an average shooter at best. It makes no difference how many fantastic ideas you put on top of it when the foundation is as weak as it is.

The sole reason why I'm still online is the naive hope of SOE opening their eyes and realizing the problem. They got it right in PS1, so they do not have to look far for the solution..
  17. Jex =TE=

But you can buy a hat for $10! W.t.f. are you even complaining for????

    :p
  18. Harbinger

I disagree. While the concept of a MMOFPS is great of course, the execution of Planetside 2 has been poor to say the least.

    1. Terrible performance
    2. Bad leveling/resource systems
    3. Terrible dogfighting
    4. Feels more like a TDM than a war
    5. Terrible base design
    6. Spawncamping (part due to 5)
    7. Imbalance
    8. Too many lock-ons making the game cheap
    9. Items way too expensive in Cash Shop
    10. Too many things, but those are just of the top of my head

While I think Planetside 2 has potential, they haven't really adressed any of the major problems in all those months. By the time it is fixed (if they even have the intention on fixing it), the game will be beyond saving in terms of population.

People staying doesn't mean the game is good. Ever heard of addictions ?

People go to the casino, lose money, feel desperate... yet return.
  20. Madmojo

I went through this with GU11. No sticky threads in the technical forum since release or responses to existing threads that I could see. I solved my CTD every 5 mins issue by deleting files people said were corrupted and moving a PS2 dll file from my windows folder to the PS2 folder where it belonged. Now I'm good, but I was very put off that I had to go to my fellow gamers to fix the game.
