Why is Planetside 2 losing so many players?

    The problems of PS2 are:
    1. hardware requirements (with my 4 year old rig PS2 was unplayable for me - I had to spent 1000€ to build a new pc)
    2. missing long term incentive for levelling a character (the cert system is unrewarding, as altering stats and numbers like 'damage resistance' are barely recognizable)
    3. actions do not have real consequences for your faction

All in all, the game was launched much too early and many ideas are not a thought through, and rather remind me of a patchwork system. But yeah, I guess the performance was the major aspect for so many rookies to leave the game immidiately.

    Agree.

You're exactly right. Even today, it feels like it's in Open Beta. The developers can't even seem to make up their minds about the capture system. How many times has it been changed and revamped? I've lost count. And there's still absolutely no meta game what-so-ever, making it seemingly pointless to even play the game at times. The Alerts are a nice step in the right direction in that they actually give you a goal besides conquering continents and getting a laughable faction-wide "bonus," but they still aren't the answer. The performance can be an absolute killer, too. I have a reasonably powerful PC (Intel i7 860, 8 GB RAM, AMD HD 5870) and any time there's a big fight, especially around a large facility, my frame rate plummets into the mid-to-upper 20s (low 30s if I'm lucky), making it nigh impossible to play well versus those with multi-thousand dollar, modern machines. Even if I completely turn everything off or set it to Low, the frame rate remains the same because the game is such a CPU hog. With performance like that, even at those settings, it's no wonder so many people completely gave up on it. I can't blame them.

Planetside 2 just isn't a well designed game. The game still plays like a beta and performs terribly. The weapon design is also a huge turn off. It seems like SoE just pumps out new weapons for the sake of making money and puts no thought into adding interesting or quality content.

Look at BF3 for example. I'm no fan of EA, but BF3 is a fairly well put together game. Additionally, the weapons actually feel unique enough to add some diversity into the game. Not so with planetside, in this game all weapons feel essentially the same. The only difference is some have bigger clip size then others.

I've never lost interest in a game as quickly as I lost interest in planetside. It's just incredibly mediocre. If this game wasn't "free to play" it would already be dead. Additionally, I seriously believe planetside is only going to go downhill form this point. Sure, it will retain some hardcore niche players just like planetside 1 did, but that is going to be the extent of the games success. There are tons of much better games out there, and more being made. Planetside 2 can't compete, it's absolutely mediocre.

Too many things get in the way of actually playing the game. The performance is unacceptable, and finding a battle is nearly impossible. Most players probably just got bored zerging from place to place without having anyone to fight.

Wow. Necro thread from jan 2nd ahoy!

Anyhoo most of the decline from the steam chart were people who uninstalled the steam bound client for the normal client and the typical shedding of the ultra casual f2p launch crowd that tries everything new but never plays longer than a few days or weeks till the ADD kicks back in.

As for the population numbers they stabilized and are slowly creeping back up again.

    1) The vocal members of the community are often ********.
    2) The "tweaks" they make that dumb down already dumbed down gameplay.
    3) Laughable physics and game mechanics (like COF sending bullets sideways out of barrels) and laser sights showing you just how inaccurate your random COF makes a weapon.
    4) The amazing amount of game time spent either (a) waiting, (b) waiting more, (c) finding a decent fight and (d) sprinting or driving from place to place.
    5) Meh balance amongst a lot of different things.
    6) Spawncamping, spawncamping, spawncamping.
    7) Optimization- you need a relatively high end computer to be competitive in the kinds of massive fights the game advertises.
    8) Relatively slow unlock process for many things.
    9) Meh graphics designs for many things (helmets, armor, weapons, vehicles, etc.).

I think that the magic word here is "trust": most features on roadmap are now unscheduled, lack of communication between devs/players, no option for refunds (demotivating players to lay down their money, because "A rabbit may become a shoe tomorrow"), and so on.

Becuase it's an unbalanced and broken game filled with autistic children who cry all day.
Iv'e played the game only for an hour in the past week and i'm considering to remove the game, the community makes me wanna puke the constant frame rate problems, lagg issues and balance problems have become way to much for me.
These past 6 months have only been pain and despair in Planetside 2

lol I like how you wrote that in the middle of your whine post.
  11. Sorusi

Well for a FPS it is shallow i believe, i don't compare RPG's with FPS. I don;t think gear makes a game less shallow, however "specialising" yourself does add depth (but this doesnt need to be a tedius insta-win grind).

But for example, compare Quake weapons to PS2 weapons, they just have way more variation and skill in them. And the movement, PS2 is almost as basic as you can get.

And yes i can agree that most people don't want innovative games, it is a shame :/

This might be a necro thread but the title is still relevant. PS2 continues to bleed players.
  13. Nariquo

    well ps2 is nothing special.
just a casual teamdeathmatch game so no sense for most players to stay.
it could be a great but well SOE just want it to be casual.
ps2 will bleed and bleed till there is only one server left.
lack of communication with the community is the main problem
  14. Advanced Darkness

And the game still has prospective server merges coming.
  15. LT_Latency

It's just like any World PvP game.

When good battles happen it's awsome. But sometime you can go hours before finding that really good battle. Most players don't wait around for that and switch to a arena game where you get a good battle every time you log in.

World PVP with lopside battles is niche compared to games with set amount of players per side, Always has been and always will be.
  16. siiix

its all the stupid balancing crap, people whine and cry and then even the ones who cried realize it was a mistake and just leave because they hate the changes

actually the game got a little batter again , but its still not as much fun as it was in the 1st months
  17. Advanced Darkness

Thats true, and more so with gamers now but this kind of game did pretty well for yrs back in the old days. Those days are pretty much gone though. And so is releasing mmo's with enough content to keep you occupied for a year or more.
  18. LT_Latency

Not really, A World PvP game has never ranked very high every. Unless you know of one that I don't
  19. treeHamster

Man I've never played with Chinese simply because I'm on the East coast so an EU or West coast server would be closer. However, I can say that Brazilians have to be the absolute worst when it comes to cheating. In some games (like Combat Arms), Brazilian cheating got so bad that finding one that didn't cheat was like looking for a needle in a haystack (even got bad enough that Combat Arms's playerbase quit the game for almost a month while they waited for a patch to be released to nullify the exploits).
