The game seems to be based off of CoD players who want infantry to be the 'be all end all' class. ESF and liberators have been severely nerfed to the point of being almost useless, tanks are barely making grade, and dedicated infantry don't kill infantry as quickly as they should.

If you're a sniper, you should make the enemy stand up and take notice of you (if they're infantry, they should get armor / air / another sniper to kill you). If you're a HA with an anti-infantry rocket (E.G. phoenix OHK'ing infantry while doing nothing vs air / armor) they should be using air / armor against you.

It ends up being 'infantry spawns instantly, I want it to be good against everything' Even maxes require a terminal, while air / armor require special terminals and maybe even tech plants depending on what you need. Infantry should be able to do O.K. versus air or armor, maxes should do quite well, and armor / air should be the big guns since they're harder to get and require a significant travel time.

If you have an infiltrator or someone dedicated to anti-infantry (shotguns / anti-infantry RL like the phoenix used to be) then you should be able to wreck standard infantry while being destroyed by armor or air. If you're decent vs armor / air you should be ok versus what you pick, but much less useful vs infantry (anni HA's should have a huge weapon switch time from their RL to their main gun, dedicated AA HA should have less just like dedicated AT's would, light assaults with C4 have another high damage spot to shoot like their head so they can't kill infantry and vehicles with no drawbacks)

Sounds like heresy to me !

The game lost a lot of players during the initial christmas rush because the devs went on vacation when the sunderer hex crash bug was ruining the game for lots of people. A single exploit that crashed the game during pitched battles personally drove away at least half the people I started playing the game with.

Another factor was liberator and tank spam. I'm glad infantry were given the tools to fight back. The game is far, far better now and I play it everyday. I've managed to coax a couple of people who quit to come back by convincing them that the air isn't swarming with liberators farming infantry 24/7 anymore.

If we went back to vehicles being dominant I would probably lose interest in PS2.

Because the game just isn't as smooth as gamer expect. Coming from titles like BF3 and COD the game feels bad. Guns aren't as easy or intuitive to use, and players move quickly. Not to mention poor tank physics and at this point, worthless air.

No matter what you try for the first time you initial impression is "This game is garbage."

Sure, once you get used to it and play with some good squads it starts to shine. Out of 15 people I got to play Planetside I am the only one who regularly plays. Every one else won't even touch it because they can't suck up the down sides for the glory of massive battles.

Just sayin. Physics seem really weird with this game. Once you get used to them it's not an issue, but coming from BF3 or even Arma 3 PS2 feels like trainwreck.

Not joking, after playing PS2 again for a few weeks I went back to Arma 3. Arma 3 feels like a precision high pace fluid shooter to me now. PS2 just feels weird. It's like stuff doesn't have enough gravity and weapons don't have mass. The recoil and deviation just seem off. It's like your character is carrying a big plastic supersoaker that fires real bullets.

Shallow MMO with generic ADS/SpunkGargleWeeWee gameplay doesn't keep people's attention for a very long time.

    News at 11.

    http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=graph&jstime=1&appid=218230&from=1354316400000&to=End Time

This is what introduction of new "feature weapons" like striker or ZoE without ironing out old ones does to this game.
After seeing this graph Im starting to wonder if Im loosing my time with this game when only around 5.000people around the world play it. If everyone left why am I still here ?

Any you know they fill **** it up with new MBT cannons. Its a given.
Stop adding ****, repair whats broken first. And for god sake remove lattice, its just stupid.

That's just Steam players but it certainly does reflect a trend. If you want to see a more accurate graph of all players check here: http://sirisian.com/planetside2/population.php.

Nice link. Pretty flat overall swinging between ~5000 and ~20000 for months between off and peak hours.

Besides World of Warcraft, feel free to show me any MMO that hasn't experienced the exact same thing, and usually drastically worse.

That some people act as if it's some kind of sign that an individual title is "bad", or a failure, signifies only their ignorance of the nature of gamers and gaming.

I feared that PS2 would suffer very harshly as a result of being F2P, as I am not a "mature" gamer, but old enough to be of the opinion that free to play generally = ****e and having to buy digital goods and boosts is a vile trade.

If I didn't already love Planetside, I would likely not have upgraded my computer, and thus not played its sequel.

For me this is a question of gaming sites and fans spreading the word, the burden is no longer on the company to advertise. PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun have supported the game publically for many months, and I think they helped boost numbers somewhat in the early stages.

There are still those who simply lack the hardware to play the game, both of my brothers for their own reasons don't want to play until they have machines that can play it comfortably for example - though they HAVE interest in the game, and one of them was a long-time player of the original.

So it would perhaps be a good idea to keep posting those videos, those blogs, these news updates - for there are many potential sleeper players; who are willing to fall in love with the game when they are ready.

Meh, you can get anything you want out of this graph.

    March 2, 2013: 22,665 characters
    June 2, 2013: 20,444 characters

    OMG a 10% drop!

    Okay, now look at this

    March 4, 2013: 17,211 characters
    June 2, 2013: 20,444 characters

    OMG a 16% increase!

In april we had 17,000 people logging in on the 2nd.

now we are up to 20 and change.

Meh. Game is stabilized... people come and go, but things kind of remain the same.

That steam graph is a load of crap though.

All of this said... can we Please close this thread, before in December it gets necroed again, and we're visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past

Happens to all new games, Is that right?

Yes, because the most hardcore, established FPS series of all time somehow counts as a "new game"

Not to mention it's only available through Steam.

It's because people are realizing the EULA allows Sony to spy on your computer when you play Planetside 2. So people are leaving over privacy issues.
