With Regards to Cert *resets*

How about dropping the Cert Price on Forward Grips...
  2. Twigifire

Do we really need to reset out certs? And if they do, why would they do it now when they are going to still nerf? They would do it once all major alternations have been made.

It seems much more fair that a recertification means that you lose everything you've ever done, so you get to earn it all over again. Back to BR1, no experience, no unlocks. You can keep the excessive cosmetic fluff but everything else gets reset. This way you can exercise your new-found wisdom and earn back the things you want, but ignore the things you don't, and feel smarter that you avoided the same pitfalls.
  4. Kurreah

On the other hand, no one is actually doing that.
Pointing out what the devs have said on the matter, possible issues that such a system might create, or why it is unnecessary, maybe.
But I don't think that anyone here has said that they are out-and-out against the concept entirely.
  5. IshanDeston

Not at all. I've wasted maybe 100 certs looking back. Tho, I most certainly would use a respec to test a couple other stuff.

gaming is like gambling. lets use slot machines as an example. slot machines have a minimum payout percentage of 80%. so every time you put money into a machine you have an 80% chance of winning from it.. how much is a different story. this is similar to gaming in this way... you play an mmo and there is an 80% chance that the items/upgrades with certs or SC will be changed. you invest your time/money use something then want your investment back once you no longer have an use for it? it is irrelevant whether it was bought with certs or SC item or class unlock. you bought it. you used it. you earn t from it knowing full well there is no refunds. yet you still want to make an argument that you are entitled to something. please try doing that with a casino when you don't win 80% of the time on slots.

now the reality flash.. gaming is gambling its just not as direct as gambling with money. if you don't want to gamble then don't. but don't gamble then expect your money back when you loose.

    Easy casino reference.

I paid for a week long stay at a casino.
3 days into the stay, my King size bed was replaced with a twin.
I demand a refund, or a replacement of my king size bed.

    That was easy, next?

The dev's are not keeping the community as apprised of changes or what the changes are very well and that is making the issue.

I finally got enough points for the zephr so I could try and catch up with some other squad mates and enjoy something other than my upgraded MBT.
    What happens?
It gets nerfed the next day and I didn't even know it was coming.

However, the Zephr is still incredibly deadly in the hands of a good gunner.

10 runs on a base yesterday netted us HUGE amount of kills.
But that was because I had a good gunner.

The other benefit we are going to see here is that CAS (close air support) is going to be more viable now with the Zephr, I can take out the guy standing right next to you without killing you and the other 3 guys there, but only the enemy.

So, I'm not going to scream for a cert refund on that.

The part that irritates me on cert's is the ones I've wasted on armor upgrades thinking that I could stack them.
Like I bought top armor for my Magrider.
    Useless.
You are RARELY attacked from the angles required to have the armor be effective.
I bought it to defend against rocket pods.
I thought I'd be able to stack all 3 as well when Purchasing it.
The numbers for the upgrades were so piss poor it made sense to me they would stack. 5%? Whooptie friggen do. Takes 1 more rocket to kill me.
Nope, nope, they dont stack, so 100 points blown.

The other issue going on with certs ans SC is that the graphical displays regarding weapon strengths and abilities is wrong.
Falsely advertising the weapons. I purchased the NYX thinking "sweet, a good close range battle rifle that does massive damage." It barely does ANY damage at all.
4 shots at close range doesn't even kill a guy, and since its semi auto with massive recoil, its to hard to control to land shots quick enough against any other automatic.
Even using it as a ranged weapon is useless cause the damage fall off is so crazy.

Hell yeah, I want my money back. I spent 7 dollars for a rifle that doesn't do what is advertised.
I bought a king size bed and got a Twin!

    Lasher is the same way.
Spent 7 dollars to even the odds. go up against a jackhammer or the chaingun and you'll get smoked every time. The only thing I can do is provide amazing cover fire and occasionally get a kill if they dont ever fire back at me.

An infiltrator with a pistol can easily kill you due to the weapons pathetic damage.
The holy grail of vanu weaponry is worse than a starter weapon.

Considering how inaccurate some descriptions are and the nerfs and buffs that have happened since release, the ability to cert reset will make the majority of the player base happy. On top of this SOE could be making money by having it available for station cash. Happy players and happy developers, where is the problem here?

I'm not sure what the porblem is here, everybody wants the option to get a cert refund if SOE refuse it more fool them.

I AM ENTITLED (I paid for these things either by game time or real money) that were under a vague description. If they want to keep my money rolling in they will MAKE me happy or I like many others will move on.

I also suggested at different battle ranks i.e. 10/25/40 etc that a respec would be gained/earned. I agree with Jes that I feel a weapon thats bought shouldnt be refunded but maybe the 6x scope you put on ur heavy weapon or its modifications should be to fix any goofs.

i have around 18000 certs invested currently, and bought nearly all the vehicle weapons and maybe half or so of the infantry weapons with sc, thanks to triple sc days on halloween and mayan apocalypse day. At this point i have most categories somewhere between 10% complete and 30% complete, depending on how much i like that particular thing.

I am frivolous with my sc and certs because everything i buy has a learning curve, and that learning curve is what interests me at the moment. Figuring out how a weapon or mine or whatever can best be used is interesting for me. And at the very least i'm paying for the ability to use something. I couldn't care less if i never use it. One day i'll pick it up and go Hmm, whats this and how does it work? and mess around with it until i get bored or i feel i've exhausted its potential for the moment. Sometimes i'll be playing and see a situation that X tool or weapon would be extremely effective in, and i run and go get that and try it out. I have pretty much every single carbine unlocked and a a few hundred in each of them at the minimum, and i dont regret that at all. For the most part the things you buy with SC that are functionally similar to other things you buy with sc arent upgrades, they're sidegrades. Things like rocket pods imo are definitley upgrades as they provide something you didnt have in any form to begin with, but different types of tank cannons or primary weapons on scythes are pretty much the same thing, just with a different twist to them. I usually run around with the high explosive tank rounds because i most often find that my targets are infantry. And if i come against tanks, i have other tools to deal with them, the primary one being avoidance.

I see so many people complain that what they bought is terrible and whine forever. No amout of whining is going to teach you how to use that thing properly. I like to keep my playstyle plastic, and having all these tools at my disposal allows me to enjoy the game for muuuuuch longer than i would have otherwise. If i find my current toolset isnt working, i switch to something else, and adapt playstyle to match.

I agree, but it's a little trickier than you might think. Due to things like bundles and daily deals and SC or cert price changes in general, they need to persistently track how much a particular person originally spent to get the weapon or upgrade, and then they have to offer the post-patched version back to them at that same price.

If they don't do that, then people can end up either getting free SC or being charged "extra" SC to continue using something.

I would like SOME system to allow an option to reset all or a portion of certs. Whether a routine function or only as a results of a balancing/overhaul to a particular cert tree. Seems a bit crappy to cert high into an entire tree (aka HE round reload speed on my MBT) only to have it rebalanced to be a quite poor MBT weapon choice. Was the balance needed, sure. Shoud I be stuck with 2400 certs invested in something that they changed? I think I should be allowed some sort of refund...

Same can be said for child molestation or central bank currency devaluation, doesn't make it right.

Imagine if you couldn't reset talents in WoW. They practically define your character and make it do what you have your talent points spent to.

In Planetside 2 you can get EVERYTHING. Certs aren't limited, attachments are.

So yeah. Planetside 2 certs do not equate to WoW talents. Only thing you can compare resetting WoW talents to is swapping PS2 loadouts and changing the weapon attachments.
  20. Flarestar

.... right, because those things are *totally* the same as adjusting balance values in a game. Don't be stupid.
