very nice, even for veterans, but i want to add:

    /setchannelnumber x y (to change the channel numbers ;) )
    /cutemode (big heads)
/browser google , /browser amazon , /browser everquest2 , the www. and the .com will be automtically included
  2. ARCHIVED-Lodrelhai Guest

/setchallennumber is already in there, under UI and Chatting and next to the /channellist command. Might have to look at rewording/reordering it if it got skipped. Cute Mode! Yes! I'd forgotten about that until April 1st this year, and then I couldn't remember what it was called! Did not know that about the browser! I wonder if this means they put some version of the /pizza command back in too... ::runs off to test:: Thanks!

Just wanted to say thank you for putting the effort into such an excellant post!
Highly informative, really appreciate you makin' it. :)

"There are NPCs near the Lighthouse in Antonica and in the Commonlands who give a quest that allows you to change your bind point." I believe that's no longer true as of the latest update. All characters get Set Recall Point as an ability at the same time as their Call spell. Powers &8^]

Might there be room for a section along the lines of "Before my first login" covering areas like setting up account, what software to buy, etc? Not sure what access to these forums people have prior to that, but there are frequent questions about people downloading the game and not realizing the issues with that vs. retail box, etc. Also, people should know that it's a good idea to setup a "freemail" email account rather than their regular email account, since people change ISPs, ISPs go out of business, etc and they no longer have access to that email account that they setup for their account.
It is a great thread and I usually check in with it once a month or so. Great stuff in there for new toons (and new alts).
    Thanks

A major source of information! Thanks for takin' the time to write it up.

Here's a couple of fairly unknown things.

    1) Got a charm slot item thats useable? Keep it in inventory and drag it to the hotkey. It becomes useable from the hotkey and dosn't need to tie up a charm slot. (Note - You won't gain any attribute bonuses from the item however)
    2) having someone kill steal you? No problem, You can A) Lock your encounters by using /lock, Or, as i prefer to do it, Attack target, Let the ks'er attack the target and gain aggro (hate for all you eq'ers) and then /lock. Chances are that person will soon be a dead ks'er.
(Since You do minimal damage against locked targets - like 10% of your total damage) Note, this dosn't work very well if the player has quite a bit of levels on you (ie. lvl 20 vrs a level 10 mob)

I could not find this on here or the FAQ post below. Is there a place I can get a definitive answer to the 'grade' of equipment? I can't for the life of me find anything that tells me what order the equipment falls under, such as: Belly-Button Common Common Uncommon Rare Godly That sort of thing.
  9. ARCHIVED-Lodrelhai Guest

I believe the grades go: Common Uncommon Handcrafted (player-made) Treasured Mastercrafted (player-made) Legendary Fabled I could have those last two mixed up though. I'll see where I can wriggle these in.

Another useful feature that "I wish I'd known earlier" :) .. multiple hotbars & swithing them.
I use 3 hotbars, first 2 are for adventuring, but the third is for my Artisan Abilities.. but when I was a low level artisan, I would shortcut all the abilities (added a rotation to the third bar) and would setup bars all the way up to 6 bars using the rotating bar.
Interesting/usefull fact.. Shift+BarShortcut+Number will replace a hotbar shortcuts with the shortcuts of another bar.
IE - If my first shortcut bar (primary) is currently 1, but I want shortcut bar 3 to be my Primary, Pressing Shift+3 will replace my primary bar with the third bar (not make my third bar primary, but change on the shortcuts on my Primary bar to bar 3's shortcuts.) Likewise shift+alt+3 would to the same to my secondary bar, and shift+ctrl+3 would change my Triatary bar.
Didn't see this info in the guide. If i missed it sorry. :)

I owe some apologies! StormCinder, dancemice, I'm horribly sorry I missed your suggestions. Somehow I just did not see them the last time I updated!

For locking encounters, I do have some info on that in the Groups section, where I talk about setting Group Options. I'll refine that a bit, since that also sets auto-lock when soloing, and put the /lock command either there or in the Commands section. As for kill-stealing, all testing I've done shows that while another player can attack a mob you're currently fighting if the encounter is not locked, the credit and xp for the kill will still go to you so long as your attack landed first. Admittedly, that can still be annoying as hell - a few times someone has 'helpfully' jumped in to kill a mob my coercer was trying to make a pet, or busted mez on a critter that really, really hated me. Still, I got credit for the kills.

The charm info is definitely going in next edit.

'Before my first login' info could be useful, but I don't think its part of the scope of this article, which is helpful information you can use at almost any point in play. A separate article concerning that might be more useful - and a great deal less overwhelming for the absolutely-brand-new player than this monster. I'll see what I can come up with.

I'm apologizing in advance, because in all likelyhood the next TIWIKE update will not be in a timely fashion. My comp suffered a meltdown and at this point I'm working on salvaging what I can - best case scenario is a new HD, worst case is a new comp.
I'm logging on through roommie's comp currently, but as it a) isn't mine, and b) would scream in terror if I so much as waved the EQ2 disks in its general vicinity, I've no idea when I'll be able to test the final versions of the LU 38 changes for addition as needed. I did get to try them on Test, and between guildmates and feedback here I hope to have something in a relatively timely fashion. But no guarantees.
Oh, and why didn't anybody mention that I completely skipped mentoring in this thing?! ::hangs head in shame::

Just wanted to say thanks for all your work on this as it helped me a lot. You can't imagine how many answers to questions I was afraid to ask about I found out in your guide. (Even I didn't feel silly asking them, I had no idea how to talk in the level chat until I read this guide haha!)
    Thanks again.

Sorta like equipement damage, you can out level your gear and even though its 100% it won't provide benefits after a point.
  15. ARCHIVED-Tinylegs Guest

    Very helpfull thank you

You forgot Mythical after Fabled :D

As a newcomer to EQ2 from LOTRO, I just wanted to say thanks a lot for the amazing effort that you've put into such a helpful document for us newbies. I've found these articles more useful than the official PDF manual from SOE, and I've rarely needed to use the Newbie or Help channels because of it :)

    Keep up the great work!

Wish i had knew how craftman abilities do work, in your book you have 3 abiltiies per
skill and per level (1 newbie, 2 first specialisation, 3 full spec).

Those abilities either make the crafting faster or make the product better (there is a tradeoff).

At level 10 you should check your book for new crafting abilities and the same at 20.

It helps a lot to create perfect items that give more xp (and when you craft some rare you want perfection).

I was not knowing that so i kept using level 1 abilities which do not raise your skill
    above 50, so i ended level 20 with 50 in woodworking ...

Only the latest abilties raise your skill.

Read well the impact off the abilties, to create perfect product level 1-2 abilties are better
since level 3 usually lower the urability and success rate increasing the speed.

    I hope it will help.

I don't know if this is possible but I noticed that every bag has a number as does every box in your bank and every box in your shared bank slot. It would be really nice to have a macro to open all your boxes and bags at once. I tried a few things like /open 1, /open bag....etc but have not gotten it right yet. Does anyone know the correct command to open boxes and bags for macros?
Or for that matter, is there a list of all the commands available for macros or usable in the chat window and what the difference is if available in both. For instance, is there any different syntax I need to use.
I have always wondered what there is available there that I didn't know about. In fact, just recently I found out about chatting in the Level_20-29 you have to use the chat room number. Before that I just read but never replied to those chats.
  20. ARCHIVED-ShashLigai Guest

there is a macro that opens all your bags or boxes simultaneously. the really nice thing is that the same macro closes all of them too. however, i cannot get to my char right now or I would post the macro for ya. if someone doesn't beat me to it, i'll post it tonight when i get home.
well, see the next post.. better than macro.
