New Focus effects or Epic Spell Buffs from PoW Cloak Effects

    Hello,

    Incoming Wall of Text.

    TL;DR PoW cloak effects rock, could you make them work for all players so they remain a part of our class and not on old content?

    Please look into moving the PoW cloak effects to either replace focus effects that are no longer of use (non-base reuse comes jumping to mind) or adding the effects to epic repercussion spells.

    This will both increase the length of the utility of the epic spells and will remove the key need for some classes to have their PoW Cloaks equipped.

    Obviously, I am a bit biased, as I am a Templar, but there are other classes the are definitely affected by this.

    this is an excellent idea and iirc carlos/xander mentioned this last february (pre-DC release) as a future 'sig quest' ? Hasn't revealed itself but indeed with the banked-slot these cloaks took with ToV, it would be nice to have some sort of momento from the unforgettable PoW (nightmare) saga. bump and +1.

    The only way this could possibly be a good idea is if they went back and changed all the sucky ones. The cloak effects have always been imbalanced, even after their half-hearted efforts to fix them. Considering how poorly they did with the first round of changes, I don't have any faith in their ability to get them right, so it's best to just let them fade.

    1. Not everybody that has Epic Repercussions done had the PoW cloak.
    2. If new effect is awarded based on having the PoW cloak (or having a flag on the toon that had it), then would have to go back to OLD content just to get the new effects. I don't want to farm old content, tbh.
    3. If PoW cloak effects are awarded to everyone, then that's just a slap in the face for the people that have made the effort and received the cloak.

    So ... no. Let it go, If need be, make a new item and have us do CURRENT content to get that new item.

    That's great thinking. Which ones do you have personal experience with that need to be changed?

    Letting some of them fade might be a option but there are a few that are going to be best in slot for some classes.

    In terms of getting it right perhaps with some constructive feedback from the community there might be some wins for all players.

    1 agreed. Sorry, meant more as a updated spell grant with those effects rather than requiring getting pow cloak
    2 I don't want to do old content either but right now it is a large advantage to get the cloak on some classes. Would it be better to give more power and ability to everyone or just to make some guilders grind through old stuff? Admittedly it is an edge case but thought that it would be a good thing to increase everyone's power.
    3 not sure what you mean here. I have the cloak and I sure don't want to be stuck wearing it into the next six expacks. The gear available now or I the future for that slot will only get better but classes with the needed buffs are stuck.

    They already said they weren't doing anything with those cloaks as assuming here it was because they didn't want them so strong that people would have to wear them for awhile. The reason they added the two red slots is so it was worth using over 92 mastercrafted cloaks.

    I don't really care about the cloak. It's the effect that I care about!

    I guess the problem is a few of the buffs are in fact "so strong" that they are required.

    When folks who do min/maxing all the time are all wearing the same item, it usually indicates that there's an issue. when I look at a list of a bunch of players I respect, the templars and dirges especially are wearing the cloaks. Necros and wizards frequently as well.

    Totally agree that they missed a good chance for this on this item, but to copy/paste the cloak effect would be to tacitly admit that the cloak effect is critical, yes?

    Personally, I would rather that Sony replaced some useless Focus effects, or buffed us to Epic 1.3 or even changed dragon aa to have class specifics, or maybe a Sig quest like Clown was talking about? Some option besides having some classes relegated to older content equipment.

    tbh not really. it's a good idea for the basis alone that it gives class specific buffs to people. and in the past class specific buffs have been made into spells so we could carry on the stuff. it doesn't matter really that some of them got shafted with sucky ones. the same could be said about the epics tbh. esp now.
    I remember people during RoK times that thought the guardian mythical buff was pure garbage. a proc'd CC immunity is unreliable. and it's even worse now in ToV times.

    tbh with the new whistle off the first name, and given the state of PoW and it's name, PoW takes ~30 min, and that's mostly due to the running back and forth of the zone. I wouldn't really call it a hassle to run the zone than if you want to get your raid some abilities that are quite good

    pretty sure, without any changes to effects even, that 24 people (off night) would go through the trouble to clear PoW for sake of ER 2.0 for entire raid.

    Also, at the time of it's tracking (1xpac and 1 update ago), ~60 guilds had cleared PoW. Time it takes is trivial and irrelevant especially given how mythicals still are relevant; see latest released even. So, sorry JanEQ terrible excuse to overlook them.

    OK, Great. Thanks for your input.

    Your basic thought here appears to be that it's not right to give some classes great things and give others something lesser? I guess I am not sure what is wrong with one more spell/focus effect/Epic boost etc. granted across all classes? Even if the abilities "are bad" that's still one more new effect.

    Because one is bad it make all the others disposable? Obviously now, folks from your guild are wearing the same cloaks.

    I guess the point that is trying to be made by your post is a valid concern, that Sony will not make an effort to modify the "bad" spells, but at the same time I know there's a bunch of spells and focus effects that I don't click.

    Does the gain of everyone with a spell, some crappy, some not, lower or raise the amount of overall power that the team (i.e. raid force, group, etc) brings to bear? I would think that any change that works towards the collective good would be a good thing.

    If the content is made into a quest, it would be self selecting then, right? You don't like the end result? fine, don't run the quest. Just not sure why all others must pay for a few poor choices.

    I'd love for it to become a sig quest (I have the cloak and would not mind doing an additional sig quest and wouldn't mind it being accessible to everyone). If they made it a proper sig quest instead of run 3 heroic zones and done, it could justify the dev time to make them all have useful effects. I'm a big fan of long/intricate quests when the reward is something great (especially if it's class defining) which these mythical cloak effects would be (obviously some do need a boost). For me doing a big questline gives a greater feeling of accomplishment than just looting something off a raid mob.


    edit: can revolve around PoW lore, reusing old content and presenting it to an audience that didn't see it the first time around is always a good thing... it just sits there otherwise

    Personally, I had completely forgotten that there was a mention of making it into a sig quest until Clown mentioned it. I think that at Fan Faire (SOE Live) it was mentioned that Sony did not want to continue doing anything with this, but then later at an itemization panel it was mentioned that there was a possibility of a quest for the effects.

    Using PoW lore would be awesome, and is a great concept.

    Because there wasn't mention of making it a sig quest, they said it was something they wouldn't do, not something they would.

    Every cool item ever turning into a buff is what leads to bad itemization.

    There have been precedents for specific effects in the past however, like the conversion of SF/TSO effects into Focus effects or into AA. And obviously, the gold standard of Epic Repercussions for the Epic conversion.

    Honestly, my recall over the exact statement at SOE Live is very fuzzy, and your recall of the statement may be completely right. If so, perhaps someone from SOE could state that this is a dead end and I will go my merry way. If however it is something that could be possible I would love some feedback!
