Never thought I'd say this, but... Considering retiring my Warlock

Based on everything I have read, and heard from the beta people I know, the combat revamp will nerf warlocks to #6 or lower in raid DPS versus most single targets. Behind wizards, conjurers, necros, rangers, assassins, and quite possibly swashies.

Most of our soloing ability is being removed now the roots/stuns are useless, and we remain the lowest utility class in the entire game.

Our role is being redefined as AOE specialists, a kinda specialized not-that-essential one. And even there, wizards are being given new AOE spells that will make them close to our equals in that. So even that minor role is dubious.

The process of making us useless compared to wizzies continues with every beta update... in the past couple of days the wizzies have apparently got yet more increases in their single-target nukage.

I did not sign up for this. I specifically rolled a warlock because I want to be the best possible DPS class, meaning primarily single target DPS, and was prepared to sacrifice utility for that.

I think if I can be bothered to keep playing, probably I'd level a conjurer in EQ3 (as the combat revamp effectively makes it). But I will wait and see if the expansion is even worth the trouble to do that.

I've had a lot of fun with my Warlock. Sad it'll be over in a couple weeks.

    /agree.
Unfortunatley, I have no alt above 33 so I am hoping that there will be some changes before this goes live. I am trying to stay positive. Let's keep voicing our concerns.:smileywink:

I know how you feel - I've been trying my best to get my Warlock to 50 before the expansion arrives, but after seeing our spell 'upgrades' (and I use the term advisedly), let's just say that my enthusiasm level isn't what it was. I'll withold final judgement until the spell lists are finalised but I have to say it doesn't look good.

Sony has a couple weeks to respond with how warlocks are to remain a viable class.
In lieu of that, after 5 years of continuous EQ1/EQ2 game-playing, I am finally
    ready to retire myself.

    Holy Big Kneejerk Reactions, Batman!

    Bye.

I have a 50 Warden and a 50 Warlock. Double ouch. I'm not quiting. I was one of those people who leveled a warlock before they were worth a [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]. Before they ruled the DPS roost. Before I could pull aggro and die like non-other. I will continue to play them because I like not being a dime-a-dozen like wizards. We were under-powered for my first 30-some levels. We were over-powered after that. Looks like the pendullum is swinging back towards the November warlocks. We'll be ok.

Not a kneejerk. I'm reserving final judgement but am pessimistic. I've been studying the combat revamp for many hours and reading many many forum posts. At ths point, I don't think there's much doubt about the facts I stated, if the current state of combat revamp continues to live release. This is based on the opinions of many people of all classes in the beta and on Test. Sony's history is not good for fixing major balance issues at this point in their "beta testing". They basically are just shooting the blatant bugs now.
  8. ARCHIVED-Nazowa Guest

Look at spells we are getting most are silly pet analogues. What is the point ?
  9. ARCHIVED-Magiocracy Guest

Not really, I've watched the pre-50 combat revamp with an amount of trepidation but willing to give SOE the benefit of the doubt until I saw the post 50 spells. Now that I've seen the joke that is our 50+ lineup it's not unreasonable to wonder what's the point ? Can you honestly look at the 'new' spells and tell me that they're worth it ?
  10. ARCHIVED-MilkToast Guest

I was really excited about getting the expansion until I saw our spell list, now I'm not even sure I'll buy the expansion for my 3 accounts when it comes out.
  11. ARCHIVED-Stradeus Guest

Same as OP here ... I'm loosing interest. Seriously, all I want is geting destroyed. I visit the graphic board everyday for the soga models or any news on new armor/weapon with no luck. I was excited about lvl 50 (lvl 49 atm) but now I don't really see the point anymore. I was excited about DOF .... and ...
    WTH are they doing??

It is a kneejerk reaction because you dont know what the final spells that will be in the expansion. Why dont you wait and see how it turns out before you all start saying how your going to quit. Trust me the sky isnt falling and we will own in DPS. Your basing your whole outlook on spells that arent complete and without knowing anything about the new traits and training system. Just cool your jets until the expansion comes out and I bet you will be surprised at the difference between now and that time.

I disagree totally, the OP has made an informed decison on the information that SOE has made public (lifted the NDA) they believe that the spell lists are complete enough for people to know them THEY have made that decision so the OP has made a rational decisoin based on the information that SOE wants us to have.
I agree whole heartadly with the OP, Infact I just cancelled my DoF expansion preorder and will retire my warlock when my subscription runs out in a month, no improvement = another lost custormer, I dont believe this is an kneejerk reaction, but a rational decision based on all the inforation available.
Dont Fanboi SOE this is obviously and drastically wrong, we are now a second class crap pet/AOE only class ,still got no real mana pump and no utility, if you are happy with the being that, fine enjoy your new warlock, for those of us who arent we do what customers do best, vote with our feet.

How does this qualify as a needjerk reaction? SOE's been working on this release for months, it's not like someone just sat down last weekend and created a proof of concept for warlock spells that are being circulated for a first review. These spells have already gone through many iterations of review and although some of the spell specifics (damage, cast time and reuse time) may get tweaked, the direction they are taking the warlock class will not. Most of us did not create a warlock to be a DOT class with cheesy DOT pets; this is a major change in direction for the class. It's not just a question of how much damage is dealt but how the damage is dealt. Unless SOE has completey changed the games mechanics DOTs and spells with long casting times are an inferior ways of dealing damage that limit the flexibility of the class. These changes will kill our solo ability and make us 2nd class damage dealers.

Thanks to a buddy in beta: here's a direct quote from a message posted yesterday in the beta forums. This guy has been grouping with other classes and running parses, so this is well-informed info.

"The nerf bat hit us so hard atm, the class is pretty frail, warlock still needs alot of work and only useful in certain raids like zek, but I havn't spent a year leveling my toon and doing quests to only be useful on 1-2 raids."
So it appears the OP is 100% correct about the current situation in beta. I really, really hope Kalel22 is right, and they will fix this before live.
  16. ARCHIVED-Sokolov Guest

If you read the posts of other classes, you will see everyone is complaining about being nerfed the most, maybe except for rangers and necros. So I would take it all in stride myself.
  17. ARCHIVED-Kuvala Guest

As I stated, the poster on beta had been parsing himself against other beta classes, including wizzie. Our sky is in fact falling. The quiet glee from wizzies, rangers, assassins, necros, (maybe less so conjurers) positively oozes from their forums and, I am told, on the beta boards.
  18. ARCHIVED-Kalel22 Guest

Its a kneejerk because these spells havent even been out for 2 weeks and I post it one day and everyone freaks out. AFTER they lifted the NDA they added the new 50 spells. So to say that this is what is going live wouldnt be at all accurate. Im a fanboi for giving my honest opinion? idk.. Ive tested beta's before and what I tested in beta isnt exactly what made it live.

All I am saying is just wait until it hits live then make your ultimate decisions. I mean peeps are saying they are already cancelling their accts because of what spells are like currently on beta. Thats a kneejerk.. plain and simple.
  19. ARCHIVED-MilkToast Guest

You're telling me that the level 51 to 60 warlock spells have only been available on the beta server for 2 weeks? If that's the case then we're all in trouble. Also, I don't see anyone freaking out, I just don't like the type of spells we're getting and the direction SOE is taking the warlock class. Your mileage may vary.

Cancelled my 3 accounts, and my mates are quiting it seems (didn't tell them to quit). Accounts end on the 8th of sept, was seeing how they are going with the revamp most importantly, and seeing if I am going to re subscribe. There are too many negatives to mention and I wouldn't know where to begin. Quitting for a while is the best message one can give, you can feedback all you want and it does [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] because the feedback reaches a 10 year old fat boy who is probably one of the developer's sons. If you have had enough, I sincerely recommend doing things more worthwhile and not being [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]ed around with your time and money by a company who is only there for themselves. They have ate your money whole for you to waste your time on a character(s) in a pay to play beta which will be void of any resemblance in a few weeks. Yet you cannot even call it a real beta as too many things were left unchecked until this revamp. SOE have some smart marketing ploys, please consider before getting tangled up in their schemes.
