Seriously, I am a 9 yr vet. When I started EQ2, I loved the way it started on Refuge Isle. I played there so content and surprised myself because I actually killed creatures and recieved chests with (gasp) gear that was useful and some higher level gear that was even better. I played there until I HAD to leave. Unfortunately, I came to the big world and was piled under by quests, some of which made me RUN to several different zones to complete. Yes, I soon tired of this as running seemed to be most of what I was doing in the little time I had to play. I, sadly left EQ2 for (embarrassed redface) WoW. Which I found very entertaining altho a bit too cartoony for my tastes, but I lasted there about a yr. before the "kiddie population" got to be too much for me. Where did I go? Back to EQ2 and this time, I enjoyed each bit of questing because this time I listened to the NPC's. I explored the Lore. I relished the chests that dropped with new gear even at my level of 15. BTW, upgrade the chests in Antonica and Commonlands to actually have gear not just quests.
To me EQ2 opened up a new world. It seemed so real (even the perv who offered me 5g to sex talk him in Antonica) just like real life LOL. Uh no, I did not do it. I knew you all would ask that next.:p
The whole idea to me of a good game is the people you meet, the immersion you allow yourself to go to.
Grouping was good a few times but when other players were better than me( they let me know about in an unkind way) I started feeling less than a good player, I retreated to soloing.
But I so miss the grouping and I think this is NOT where SOE failed but we did as players. We failed to start a group because it might not go well due to inexperienced players. I mean who has the time to waste on them?
We all should encourage, teach, and above all have patience with less knowledgable players.
Reading some posts on here,I still see the elitist coming out in some posts. I am not one to point fingers because I too am a soloer altho for a different reason, I deplore ppl who look down on me ingame or in real life and I tend to leave those ppl alone.

I am trying to change but I see no sense in blaming SOE who has given us a beautiful ( the most beautiful) game to date for us to enjoy, yet we ruin it ourselves by blaming someone else for our attitudes.
I thoroughly believe there are issues some serious issues that SOE needs to address to make an even better game, but
    that is the game itself.

This game good or bad is what WE make it.
As a vet, I do not like the fact that so many vet rewards have become a meaningless cash cow for SOE. This should stop.
I play this game with serious intent altho I am not a raider, I play to relax after work. It is not my life but it definitely is a part of it and as such I want to see it progress.
I do not see how letting a completely new person jump to 85 will help this, he/she is missing the WHOLE game almost. We have enough end gamers already who do not wish to help new people and are Bored. They are focused on the endgame and for them its right, they WORKED to get there.

The Idea of Earning and feeling accomplishment is NOT only for the elite endgamers, and it should never be, it should be for all levels 1-95.
Accomplishment makes us all feel good whether in game or in real life, don't take that away from the new players or even us.

Everybody that quoted me and asked "how do you suppose we do this?" That is the issue...and it is not just an issue in EQ2 I am talking about globally.

The examples of the Ring Wars are still all conditional with set checks (regardless of how loved it was or was not.)

My point is we should sit back and enjoy the game and not fret too much over ideas that so grande in application (so grande they have never really been done successfully depending on who is judging) that they forget what is already in front of them to play. Which is a very beautiful and polished game. Yes bugs are around but name me one game that does not have its own issues? How many of us left eq2 and played other mmo's just to return to eq2 going "aaaahhh this is much better.." ???

    Enjoy!

That was my point about the red adorns. No hope to get them now because no one does RW. Those adorns were rare even with a X4 raid there. They are still pretty decent reds, too.
  4. Ucala Well-Known Member

I do believe they put those adorns in the HM duo zones

I actually don't recall seeing more than 2 groups max ever at SG on Freeport. Lack of #'s may be why it seemed so annoying. Sounds like it was designed for failure if you didn't have enough players there.
  6. Dulcenia Well-Known Member

They did? That's a good thing, then.
  7. Ucala Well-Known Member

yes, atleast guildies get things like the red adorn Wild Swings in the HM duos

The fact you claim "the chance of success was the flip of a coin" shows a lack of comprehension, for a rather simple raid. Success had nothing to do with coin flips, or random luck. It had everything to do with having enough people, and correct application of a rather simple strategy.

People complained about it being "too hard", because it required more understanding than turning up, and face rolling. If you felt the raids you led in SG were "flip of a coin" for success, the fault falls upon you.
  9. Ucala Well-Known Member

no, I feel they were the "flip of a coin" because of the lag it produced due to the bad design of the PQ, having a raid there, a raid of mobs, and than a group of NPCs is nothing but lag. it's much like the lag that was happening game wide during raids a few weeks ago. causing people to wipe to things that they haven't in weeks.
the lag was barely able to keep raids up at moments, let alone caring about a random NPC. bad design, bad escort mission in general
  10. Avirodar Well-Known Member

Even with the related lag, it was very much completable on a consistent basis after the server upgrades, assuming people had half a clue as to what they were doing. So no, it has nothing to do with a flip of a coin. But if that was the excuse you kept saying to yourself every time you failed, all power to you.
  11. Ucala Well-Known Member

you act like there was no lag at all, or that it somehow got better after soe claimed they upgraded, which is lulz.

Hey when they do not specify how something was upgraded.......it can mean many things....:p
  13. Avirodar Well-Known Member

There was still some lag after the server upgrades, but it was significantly improved. Either your memory completely fails you, or you had significant issues on your local end, if you never noticed any difference.

My opinions have been called a lot of things, but unsavory is a new one.
A successful strategy for Storm Gorge is for 24 people to show up and give him the Mighty Mug buff. But I'm asking for the fight to be "face roll" easy because I want more player interaction and less dependence on an NPC... Yeah that makes sense.

Why let a minor thing like facts get in the way of a good argument? ;)

Anyway, I noticed in another thread that you posted that Holly said they would be releasing more info about the Heroic Characters this week. (Sorry for bringing the discussion back to topic, but someone needed to do so. :p )

If only there was a perfectly viable strat for SG, where there was zero dependance on the NPCs, allowing players to clear Storm Gorge without any Dwarven NPC's ever engaging in combat.

    Oh wait... There is!

So you're complaining because just one of the viable strats for SG, involved buffing an NPC, despite another viable strat not requiring the NPC to participate at all? Talk about first world problems...
  17. Deago Well-Known Member

I just want to kill stuff and find treasure. Why is that so difficult? :D

  18. Dulcenia Well-Known Member

OK, explain what that strat is. I go there...I die. Nobody else is there...what strategy am I missing?
  19. Rotherian Well-Known Member

The strat being referred to is essentially heading the mobs off at the pass - metaphorically speaking.

Anyway, back to the topic, which is actually about the Heroic Characters coming in September. (I swear, this is like herding cats sometimes. :p )

I doubt they are going to have the 280 AA (since they are talking about making the Touch of the Steward individually purchasable), but hopefully they will have enough so that the characters aren't completely useless prior to hitting level 90.
