Warrior - DW/2H/1H

I'd like to see Phalanx stack with LS. More ranks of it just indirectly makes our best tool less beneficial.
  2. Daegun Augur

I agree. Any improvements to mitigation need to be stance neutral. Phalanx should be either allowed to stack with last stand or the raw percentage on last stand should go up by 5-10% to offset this relative power degradation.

I also think we're long overdue for aa lines that either prolong final stand duration or decrease re-use time. Let's be honest - this crusty old disc is long overdue for some real improvements. The meat and potatoes of the disc hasn't changed since level 55. Length, reuse, and power are - basically the same.

Alternately we could ask for a warrior copy of one of the knight lesser discs with a moderate vie effect and a damage cap - something to bridge and fill the gap left by NTTB and LS.
  3. Imableeder Elder

Yea!! Maybe we could get an ability similar to the one they don't bother to mem.... :)
  4. Daegun Augur

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not talking about spell vies - knights have 3 defensive disciplines on separate timers. Their minor discs are more powerful than our rune or defensive stun discs - ie give us another defensive disc on a separate timer that's weaker but can fill the void. If trade several of our crappy discs for a 25% vie disc that reflects a heal. The base heal would have to be set a bit higher since we don't have heal focusing aa.
  5. Tearsin Rain Augur

    dear god... no it doesn't.

you becoming more effective outside of LS doesn't make LS less effective within even the remotest definition of what words mean.

Which defensive disc do we not bother to mem?
  7. Tearsin Rain Augur

you do know that knights don't 'mem' discs, right?
  8. Dre. Altoholic

Eh, semantics. Higher baseline makes LS less of a boost above baseline.
  9. Tearsin Rain Augur

    no, it really isn't.

completely and utterly irrelevant, so long as both LS and mob maximum DPS output are tuned around each other... which they are.

being under LS is (and has been for basically the last 13 years of raid development in this game) the tuning benchmark for raid NPC damage output.
if everything revolves around LS, the closer to you are to LS at all times is the more powerful you are for the other 7 out of every 10 minutes.
suggesting that being closer to the benchmark at all times means that being at the benchmark itself is weaker is so ludicrously, preposterously stupid that there aren't even words to express it.
    Xeladom likes this.
  10. Dre. Altoholic

    Relevant, but beneficially so.
  11. Tearsin Rain Augur

it's not relevant, because you're implying that non-disc is the tuning point for content, and it isn't.

absolutely in raids, and i'm going to imagine in terms of group named as well, NPC damage output is tuned around the use of LS.
EQ is absolutely NOT tuned around how much damage you take without a disc, and then any disc usage just makes it easier - it's tuned around LS being active.

you said "Higher baseline makes LS less of a boost above baseline." - this is factually inaccurate, because LS *is* the baseline.
  12. Dre. Altoholic

I think you're being overly sensitive of frame and phrasing. The result is the same - they don't stack.

I'll agree that whether the baseline is high or low, a smaller gap between the two is beneficial.

While Tric might suggest that stacking would be more beneficial, reality suggests we'd pay.
  13. Imableeder Elder

    reading is fundamental
  14. sojero One hit wonder

Ah Tearsin I believe he was trying to jest that all our discs are absolutely amazing and must haves, while warriors are not even worth clicking so why click the book to learn them anyhow.
  15. Dre. Altoholic

We're venturing pretty far off topic here.

A couple things we'll need to parse when these abilities go to test:

    1. DW Prof dmg mod should not be stacking with Shield Specialist
    2. Whether 2H Prof dmg mod is stacking with Merciless Blade
    3. Is DW Prof mitigation bonus providing any benefit over Phalanx
    4. 2H and DW should be outparsing 1h+shield in sustained and burn
    5. Are skill attacks viable and equal in all proficiency stances
  16. Imableeder Elder

Close :), some have so many powerful abilities that they don't bother with or forget they have them, while others ponder how a tank class would forget they could boost their hitpoints every 2.5 minutes by 14kish. /shrug
  17. Battleaxe Augur

A few things we'll have to check:

    1. S&B is the best setup from an overall survival+aggro+DPS+utility standpoint when we are tanking.

    2. DW and 2H are the best from an overall aggro minimization+ DPS+utility standpoint when we are DPSing (standing in for a non-tank melee DPS class with another player tanking).

    3. That we do more DPS when using either of our DPS setups with the proper "stance" abilities (including offensive discs if used) not tanking than we do using our only tanking setup with it's proper stance (including defensive discs if used but excluding attributable DPS from Damage Shields and ripos not available if you aren't accepting the risks of tanking gear properly to perform that role).

There's tanking gear, a tanking stance, tanking discs, a tanking role (in which we should do class consistant DPS).

And there's a secondary melee DPS role we perform (not particularly well) when we are not the tank solely because we're also a pure melee.

We ought to be geared, in the right stance, and using the right discs in each of the two roles.

Good point... I'll add "test Defensive Proficiency's mitigation boost" to #3 when I run my parses. I believe spdat suggested a bonus to block as well.

Agro and utility did not appear to be adjusted in any stances.

That's a lot of qualifiers. Here were my last results:

3255 DPS (1H and no other mods)
2834 DPS (DW and DW proficiency) <- reported as bugged
    4465 DPS (2H and 2H proficiency)

~3250 dps was expectation for DW prof, (15% boost) and this isn't any better than 1H. In fact, the flurry mods would advantage 1H along with SS when tanking. Also for consideration: the beta spdat suggested DW prof was a downward defensive adjustment from an avoidance standpoint.

If everything is working as what it looks like Elidroth has intended and 10% mitigation bonus will not stack with phalanx/final stand.... we may lack any reason to DW ever.

I have no interest in increasing the utility of non-shield setups for warrior. I think the dual-wielding fetish displayed by a minority of warriors is poorly-founded nostalgia for a broken model of EQ, and 2h is solidly homed in ber (thematically & mechanically eschewing defense) / knight (not the "masters of armed combat" and so have to choose) territory. My feeling is that it's entirely appropriate for it to be entirely correct for warriors to equip a shield for the entirety of their play.

Furthermore, I'm already on 8+ hotbars plus Combat Abilities window besides all the potions/xtar/group/etc. I do and will use whatever new powers come along, but the blessings started turning seriously mixed years ago as mindspace overhead became part of their cost.
  20. Whulfgar Augur

Interesting .. So then we will be Raid tanking while we Duel Wield or use a 2 hander huh ?
