Another great decision to add to the list of the last 3 years!
I'm very sure this will help us grow our player base and retain existing players. Even if the nerf is for a good and has a well thought out reason your communication skills in this 17 year old game are far from maxxed I would even call them poor.

You and I both know this is complete bs, cmon dude.

Running the numbers, the change to crit damage mods appears to be a ~41% increase to the damage of Ethereal Skyblaze on a full burn (and other spells would presumably get the same upgrade, that's the spell I happened to use to calculate it), not including Mana Charge (which would make it a larger bump). Note: The "full burn" period only lasts for 90 seconds, at which point 2nd Spire wears off. There is some decrease in DPS from the loss of Magmatic Burst, but also an increase in damage from procs, especially because they're impacted by the Furies. So 400-500K is probably too high, but it probably puts you over 300K depending on how long Vitio takes.

With how the patch currently works, in a sustained scenario you'd lose out because of the 100% reduction on all mods. However, Beimeith seems confident that the 100% will be added back in, negating any decrease in a sustained scenario from what is currently on live.

I'm still curious what the plan is to fix all of the abilities that had their crit damage mod totally removed. I don't have a cleric to test, but it probably even hit things like Divine Avatar, because we all know cleric dps needed nerfed.

They're not really going to send this live like this right? Right? RIGHT?!

With this guild, 90 seconds would be a dream. Maybe wizards in more rounded DPS guilds will see these inflated numbers. Sustained is really all I've got (or had, have changed mains).

Makes you wonder where the samples are taken from in order to come up with various fixes, nerfs, etc or if they're all entirely theoretical.

Currently you run 250% out to the 210s mark for spell crit damage mods. Now for 90s you run at 535%, then drop down to 385% out to 120s, then down to 175% until PD wears off, then down to 100% out to the 4min mark (Note: If Beimeith's post that he subsequently deleted is correct, add 100% to all of these numbers). My guess is it still amounts to a fairly large boost on Vitio, but that boost decreases the longer the burn goes out.

FWIW, I've seen 90s parses on Vitio from both RoI and MS. The best I've seen from IL was around 139s IIRC, and in this guild, the best I've been here for was 138s. So YMMV depending on the fight length.

    Edit:
Looking at these changes, they seem completely arbitrary. I'd be surprised if any data was used to make them.

There used to be a time when reading patch notes was like Christmas morning....then DGC happened

I guarantee 300k will be par for the course with these changes, I already push 250-280 on good parses, 220k or less and it was a bad burn. This is a SIGNIFICANT burst damage increase. 250% overcrit from IoG currently gets me there, and it's going to be what, 500%+ ?

500k was probably an exaggeration without perpetual haze, but guarantee I break 300k without thinking about it, and I *will* hit 400k now and again. It's a massive burst increase to a class that utterly did not need it. Not to mention nerfing mages at the same time...a class that is nearly always behind both wizards and necros at any duration... why?

Ask any raid leader if they want another wizard or another mage... well, I think we all know the answer to that.

Not to mention that melee dps classes are so far behind right now it's not even funny...where are the bumps for them? Rez effects, more sustained abilities, anything really... lots of good suggestions all over the boards. I just don't understand how anyone can look at the state of the game, and decide that melee dps is fine, and wizards are not

Are you talking about your main class parses (necromancer) or wizard alt because right now I've never seen a wiz in our guild hit close to 250-280 on Vitio (fight last way too long for us) but I have seen YOU do it on your main.

I'm not sure i'm understanding the vitriol toward wizards in these last two posts but I can agree with melee needing any kind of boost. Wizards should be the king of burst, good mages were above and on par with wizards for sustained fights (likely not anymore with rain nerf, that is unfortunate) and both were leagues behind necros.

There's only one "short" fight in TDS expansion. Wiz and necro can all flex at the big parse numbers, melee can continue contemplating quitting and mages might soon find themselves following suit. Good game direction

Ignore that Sancus. God you're quick to quote me, do you hit F5 constantly or something? :p

Edit: Nvm, and only so many exciting things going on at 3 AM :p
  12. Beimeith Lord of the Game

It would be 575 or 612 (if you use Imp Familiar /w bard), decreasing by 150 after 90s then by another 225 after 30s. (PD fades after 40 hits or ~2m worth of casting).

And here I was thinking you were just looking for another class to get nerfed....

No, I keep a special list encrypted and fragmented on computers spread across the country with no internet access. When I decide it is time for a class to be nerfed I send agents to retrieve each fragment and deliver them to DBG under armed escort. Once DBG has the file fragments Smedley personally travels to Fort Knox to retrieve the decryption key stored there in the vault. They then reassemble the file and decrypt it using the decryption key and pick a random class from the list to nerf.

Or, you just nag about how OP mage rains are until they nerf'em. ;)

Or I say lots of things about lots of subjects and every once in a while they change something related to one of the things I said and all of a sudden I'm directly responsible. Not that I don't enjoy it, but you guys give me way too much credit.

Most of us realize you fling at a wall until something sticks. Not that you have some bat line to the devs that gets your will done. Either way you do spend a lot of your time flinging to get others changed.

You do some good for this game and you do lots of bad. You made your bed now sleep in it.
  19. Beimeith Lord of the Game

I speak my opinion which is no different than anyone else. I don't really even do that much anymore because I've been extremely busy lately.
  20. Savil Lorekeeper

Not really, I just know how the devs work. They have a set group of people that when they nag about something .. they tend to listen more than when others do. When you dump a bunch of numbers into it that, being honest, I don't think the current devs understand, you tend to get your way even more.

Now because you have yelled about mage rains so much they nerfed them, but they didn't stop there, they nerfed all rains, cause well, they prob didn't know the difference, and I can't help but notice you never said how bad it would screw mage DPS. Now what do we all have to show for it? Mage burns are way, *way* down, encs don't give a flip, necros don't care, but I can't help but notice that wizards will get another big jump, esp wizards it high end DPS guilds.. (IE, YOU.)

Yet again you show how self serving you are, then stand back and try to pull the "I didn't do anything card". What a joke. Its a shame you didn't post actual real world numbers.

I can't speak for others but I know I'll sure have a LOT of fun on raids doing 60-65% of the *sustained* DPS I was doing just this month. I'm sure all mages will stick around now so that we can parse against freaking enchanters and bards. Thanks so much for all the "hard" work you do.
