Cannot Reproduce Resizable BAR (smart access memory) causes massive fps decrease

I was able to get around this performance issue using DXVK for a while, but I don't know if it was some update getting ready for Dx11 or some change in newer AMD drivers the game just crashes after server select screen now with it. So hopefully this gets fixed...

Just wanted to say that UseLitBatches=FALSE fixed the issue for me with an AMD GPU without Re-BAR enabled. This seems to be a setting that you want to use regardless of that setting, if you are experiencing fps drops in some zones with an AMD GPU.
Windance, Cairbrae and Metanis like this.

You don't miss have a different CONFIG.SYS for each game?

I'm now also getting massive fps drops when looking at a bunch of players or certain buildings/towns. These fps drops bust the mouselook and make the game unplayable. As others have pointed out, it's extreme when I look at Kelethin (or towards Kelethin, even from miles away).

Setup: Radeon RX6800 with newest drivers, Ryzen 7 5800X, Win 10 with newest updates.

    Observations:
    - One year ago everything was running fine on the same hardware (and OS)!
    - Tried turning off resizable BAR in the BIOS. It does not help at all on my system.
    - Setting "UseLitBatches=FALSE" helps a lot. Completely fixes the issue with Kelethin and other spots. I still get massive fps drops when looking at a lot of players on PoK. But at least the game is playable again.
    - Maybe unrelated: Unlike a year ago, I don't see any light from light sources around my character. E.g. using the Gloomingdeep Lantern on a Human Monk at night does not brighten up anything. Or was that changed in the client together with the "enhance vision" feature and light sources are now obsolete?

Double check that your eqclient.ini setting is the following:

    [Defaults]
    ShowDynamicLights=TRUE

How do I turn this "BAR" off?

This is a very known AMD GPU Driver issue. It's exclusive to them in a variety of games. AMD needs to fix it on their end, since DX is just issuing calls and the driver is carrying it out poorly.

You can turn off Resizeable BAR in your BIOS/UEFI when comp boots -> Spam the DEL key. Most newer bios have a search function of some kind, look there or in Memory/GPU areas and you'll see the option.

You are right, sorry. I toggled the wrong one (advanced lightning). I re-enabled ShowDynamicLights and the light sources work fine!

The fps drops referenced by OP can be fixed by setting "UseLitBatches=FALSE" on my box with the RX 6800. Some people here pointed out that this setting reduces the clip plane, but it seems tolerable. Resizable BAR on/off has no effect.

The bad fps drops in crowds of players on PoK don't seem to be caused by an AMD issue. I'm getting the same bad fps drops with an RTX 4080 on another box. Guess I'll have to live with these.

RTX 4090 overclocked to 3.1GHZ still gets close to 10fps in POK lag pile at 1440P.

Unfortunately, there is not a $5,000 or $10,000 graphics card we can buy to solve the low FPS issues. Stuck with the crap $2,000 RTX 4090.

We have not been able to reproduce the issue on our side. It is possible that your video card manufacturer needs to fix this on their end. Please keep an eye out for any video card updates that could fix this. At this time, EQ may not be able to support this video card setting.
