I think that the crazy amount credited to some (all?) people who had been guides is due to the fact that originally they didn't get any credit for the time they were guides. Pretty much every one I knew that had been a guide at one point originally didn't get any vet AAs for the time they were a guide (and thus didn't have to pay for their account).
