Right click and edit the advanced properties of all exe's in eq's folders and turn off a setting having to do with enhanced features in windows yada yada. Its right near where you can toggle compatibility mode and run as admin.
This only ever happened when I was in full-screen swapping between copies of the client. Since I switched to windowed mode has never happened again.

Found it. in Everquest folder right click on eqgame.exe, LaunchPad.exe (and all .exe files to be thorough) click on Properties click on Compatibility at the top tick on Disable Fullscreen Optimizations It is working for me so far. No more freezes.
