Crash on Zoning, unable to log back in

This has been occurring to me frequently on Thornblade. On zoning, or more often when switching picks, my game will crash/freeze on zoning. Then I am unable to log back in for 30mins+ generally until I can use the return home option. If I try logging back in right away itll go to a black screen saying the server is not responding.

I have tried logging in on different laptops, restarting the pc, reinstalling the game but the issue persists.

A lot of times this is because ISPs are blocking certain ports that the client tries to connect through to the server, which is randomly picked from a range of values making it appear intermittent. Would need to contact your ISP and check on their end to unblock them.

uPnP is supposed to avoid the need for this, no?

I made sure uPnP is enabled, and for good measure I added rules to port forward for 1024-7000 on TCP and 1024-6000 UDP but I'm still experiencing this same issue.

Any help? Bonus exp time is burning, as is my limited freetime to play!

    Update:

After *unsuccessfully* doing all the things listed in Skuz' post, and more, on my own... I found better data and a solution for my own situation.

    ISP CenturyLink
Router config --> port forwarding, TCP, UDP, 1023-30004
an additional rule for port forwarding, TCP, UDP 30006-65535

This fixed my issue, when NOTHING else did. Good luck to anyone else suffering.

My husband is having this exact issue with Plan of Valor - at first it was just on one computer, now on both. We are on Rizlona.
We've attempted the uPnP enabling and this did not resolve the issue.
Once we are able to return to home, the zone file now seems to be corrupted and deleting/patching does not resolve the issue - as soon as he attempts to zone back in, it freezes/crashes. Other characters on the same PC (if not in that zone) are fine - so we are confident this is not an ISP or resource issue.

    Some suggestions to try:

Run a file check from the EQ Launcher
    (HOW? - https://help.daybreakgames.com/hc/e...73-How-do-I-validate-game-files-in-EverQuest-)

Try adding your EQ folder to your Antivirus exceptions list

Also make eqgame.exe & launchpad.exe exceptions in your firewall

Power-cycling your router/modem (turn off for 60 seconds then back on)

    Reset your Internet Options:
Even if you use Firefox, Google Chrome or another web browser to surf the internet, the LaunchPad runs off of Internet Explorer settings. Follow these steps to reset your Internet Options which may improve LaunchPad performance.

Go to Start, then your Control Panel.
    Click on Internet Options.
    Click on the Advanced Tab.
    Click on Reset.
Check the box Delete Personal Settings, and then OK.
Go back to Internet Options to the Advanced Tab, scroll down to Security and un-check "Check Server Certification Revocation" and "Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk".
    Click OK.

    Clear the LaunchPad Cache
Navigate to the directory of the game you are trying to play and open the launchpad.libs folder. Delete thelaunchpad.cache folder and relaunch the LaunchPad again.

    Flush DNS (reset internet connection)

Navigate to the desktop. (From Home, tap or click the Desktop tile).
Right-click the Start button (the Windows logo in the lower-left).
    Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

Note: If you are asked for an administrative login, you will need to contact your system administrator.
Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /registerdns" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter.
Type "netsh winsock reset" and press Enter.
    Restart the computer.

Update: after going afk at character select to eat, entering world once again generated the same disconnection. I've exhausted all of my ideas. :(:(

this solution for disabling the cyber security initially worked for me a couple weeks ago... but now this issue has started happening again, and way more frequently.
  8. Luclin.Dragonball Lorekeeper

Well, I have encountered the issue on various characters in particular zones. To me this indicates either ISP port issues or corrupted game resource issues. Having deleted all maps and UI files and still encountered it, I lean away from game resources. I wish I had more concrete suggestions to narrow it down, but I'm scratching my head here.
  9. xmPradah Not a dude

We've gone so far as to reimage both machines today, and this is still happening - so it definitely doesn't appear to be a client issue or corrupted game files. I will attempt the port forwarding, but SIGH... I have NO CLUE what the router login info is anymore...

I was able to find this info in our dbg.txt file. Anyone able to help me discipher?

We also have CenturyLink for our ISP, and are trying this suggestion. I'm a little disheartened that it recurred for you. We've disabled the firewall and AV, and will be are currently testing the port forwarding. Wish us luck!
  12. xmPradah Not a dude

So we had the same issue, but figured out it's likely because the IP assignment is dynamic on our PCs, and from what I can tell you have to pay extra to CenturyLink for a Static IP (of course). We have a Netgear Orbi router, which doesn't appear to allow global port forwarding?
  13. Miphesto Journeyman

This is almost a 2 year old post! Please tell me someone found the solution to this. I am having the exact same issue for weeks now. I have tried all the forum suggestions. First it would crash going into the bazaar, then the estate of unrest, so I tried port forwarding, it worked!! I could zone into those zones again. Then a week goes by and now both my characters can't zone into blightfire moors, when I spent most of my characters life in there and been in and out tons of times. My new character is now stuck in cresent reach because I can't zone into the moors, even though I already ran through it twice now to get to PoK book. Why is this continuing to happen, please help
  14. Miphesto Journeyman

Come on, somebody has to know something that works after a couple years of this post and there are others like it. I was told it was only me but obviously not, years of other people yet no solution? Look at how many views just this post has, more than any other, it should be up-voted and get some sort of solution rolling.
  15. Miphesto Journeyman

    I've tried port forwarding
    Over wifi and wired setup
    DMZ hosting
    IPv4 disabled
IPv6 disabled and with traffic in and out allowed
    UPnP is enabled
Any other modem tricks out there to make it not block these ports on EQ?
  16. Jedis Arch Mage

According to the log posted above, it's most definitely related to something client side that is blocking the connection to the zone box:

Check your log to see if there's something similar. If so, temporarily disable your antivirus and see if the problem persists.
  17. Miphesto Journeyman

Hey thanks for responding Jedis, I appreciate the help. I checked my logs but they didn't go back far enough to see yesterday mornings trial of fixing the above mentioned things. I'm sure it would have been real similar. It shouldn't be my antivirus, it's been disabled since i started trying to fix this issue. But while I was looking at the logs I noticed it says what networking ports are being used while zoning. They range from "Networking using port [ 52273 - 65139 ] those are just from 6 different times I zoned, im sure there are higher and lower numbers. Luclin Dragon ball mentions above that that they set port forward to 1024-7000 TCP and 1024-6000 UDP, online shows the same port info for Everquest, is that real old info? Because my port numbers yesterday were way bigger than that. So Luclin Dragon ball changed his ports to 1023-30004 TCP& UDP and a additional rule for ports TCP&UDP 30006-65535 but that didn't work for everything either. I figured the UPnP would take care of this but it doesnt, is there a broader range that can be set in port forwarding to make it unblock every port that Everquest requires to run properly? I hope someone knows these numbers, because obviously there's a reason you cant just put 0-1000000, probably due to security risk. If someone knows this info or another route, please chime in.
The only other thing I can think of is to keep a eye on the log everytime I play and check port numbers and keep expanding my port forwarding numbers until it allows all zones all the time. That would take a lot of time though, so I'm hoping someone knows this or a better way. Thanks ahead of time to anyone willing to help, appreciate it.

The source ports (from your local machine) are going to be random and be really high numbers typically (50k-60k range). The destination ports are going to be static for that specific zone at that particular point in time. Here's an example. I have 6 accounts logged in. 3 are in one zone, and 3 are in another zone. You can see the destination IPs and ports are the same for each group of 3 due to the zone box and zone they are connected to.

I don't have anything enabled on my router. UPnP is also disabled and I have no issues zoning... I'm not really sure what could be causing the issues if it's not your antivirus. I run ESET and don't have any issues with EQ.

If not AV then maybe firewall? Either yours or your modem's.

Your not going thru Steam are you?
  20. Miphesto Journeyman

Thanks again Jedis and CatsPaws for responding. I see what you are saying Jedis, I just dont get what could be randomly causing the crash on certain zones then or how to unblock even more. I played for 2 months and had no issues, then in just the last 3 weeks these zone crashes started happening. So I had to start trying everything. It was you CatsPaws that actually recommended the port forwarding, i didnt know what it was but looked it up, figured it out and found that first info on the TCP & UDP. After I only changed that, I was able to zone into the bazaar again and the estate of Unrest. Then a week goes by and I couldn't zone into blightfire moors anymore, same crash. So I tried all the above mentioned stuff and more but had no luck. Disabled AV, disabled windows firewall and modem fire wall. So far it was only the Moors this time, other than that the rest of the game has been working perfectly. And nope, not on steam CatsPaws
