You realize all the buttons on that window... do things.... yes? Tabs on that window would be an absolutely horrible way to handle 5 mercs.
  2. Kaliko Augur

No one was asking for 5 mercs in the first place and i would think if we did they would have a set all to passive, etc. And no one really uses ae burn on wiz mercs as its inefficient so they could theoretically have a button that reverts all mercs to previous stance before passive.

Don't care about technical limitations, as those aren't insurmountable.

No one has been able to give me a legitimate reason why this shouldn't happen and/or how this would negatively impact you, especially on empty, ghost-town servers.

Again: is ok for one person to have two mercs up under any circumstances? Consequently, is it ok if I box and have two mercs up? Why is that ok and my proposal not ok? What is the difference?

Lets see dervs had said many times not going happen. its 1 merc per account you have going.
  5. Aghinem Augur

    I will make this brief.

A majority of the content is doable in group gear w/ 1 merc if you have no group with you regardless of what class you are playing. What is being asked is more hand-holding rather than getting better at a game to which has elements of annoying mechanics, but is still an easy game. Additionally, having the ability of calling out 2 mercenaries will certainly make EQ more group unfriendly.

If 2 mercenaries per toon is made possible, the only way to bring balance is to make them more stupid than they already are.

I am a single account owner FWIW.

If I box with a second account, then I have two mercs up. If I want to do something in TBM, then I have to spend $40 for my second account to be able to go into there. And unless I want to spend money on unlockers for AA and other stuff (I am unfamiliar with all that a f2p account can unlock), I need to either (a) spend $15 per month to maintain that second account or (b) spend platinum on a Kronos, which at one point in that Kronos life was bough from DBG for $18.

So to answer the question of why a single account owner cannot have two mercs but a dual account owner can have two mercs, it comes down to money. And there is no reasonable amount of money that a single account owner would spend that would be comfortable with DBG to allow two mercs, since at some point DBG would be losing money.

Example - if DBG says for $100 you can have two mercs, then after seven months DBG would start to lose money. Because if I wanted two mercs right now, I have to spend $15 on a second account to do so. And at the seventh month I would have spent $105 for that second merc. Which means months 8, 9, 10, etc etc I would not be paying $15 a month since I paid a one time fee of $100. Furthermore if it was cost beneficial to DBG, they could look at how much for a three year plan (as an example). Maybe after three years they don't care about that second account making money. So thirty six months at $15 per, add in three $40 expansions... DBG could say if you wanted two mercs, it will cost $660. Which I cannot see the average single account EQ player wanting to spend $660 for a second merc. And even then after three years DBG would be losing $15 per month since the single account owner does not need a second account for a second merc.

Bottom line.... money is the reason a single account cannot have two mercs at once.

That look is flawed in my opinion. It's not a zero sum game.

They have to look at holistically, instead of finitely like you have.

Simply put, will an additional merc keep more users around versus losing money that wasn't even there to begin with?

Do you understand what I mean?

Me, I pay for one account. I either have to make a small investment to box to gain more mercs, or, since I can feel it coming, will that lack of a merc and limitation in what I can reasonably do end any enjoyment and lose me as a player entirely?

Bottom line, the REAL question is, would this keep more single account users around and playing? You can't pay or buy stuff if we're not even here to begin with versus losing revenue by not having us box, which we're not even doing to begin with, so there's noting DB loses, but a lot in potential gain by keeping us here.

Rebuttal, while I am concerned about the financial impact that 2 or more mercs would have on subscriptions, I am not sure as you seem to be that a 2 boxer would compress to a 1 account.

I have 2 accounts IF there were 2 mercs per account implemented, I would probably not drop to 1 account.

Now then 3 and more accounts ... I can see why I would be concerned there, but no one has cared to step up and say anything about what they would do.

Are you speaking from an knights point of view or have you tried doing TBM mobs in group gear on a rogue or zerker? Do you also run mercs on Enslaver of souls mission or damsel of decay? What we want is just some way to help ease the pain of having to solo current content progression on mains or alts just because we didn't get it done in the first month the expansion is out..... Groups are virtually nonexistant but everyone will claim their guild groups but its funny that their guild does not group outside of their own. I could be looking for people for DH HA's or TBM prog for hours and not find people, and I also go lfg on an adps class and dps class and still never find a group. Allowing me to have a 2nd merc would actually make attempting to solo TBM tasks more enjoyable than having to wait on burns to kill mobs because I can't single pull or tank 5 at a time..... Pet classes like beastlords or mages have it easy because their pets tank the content no problem, enchanters can rune tank no problem but every other class in group gear not so much except for knights as well if played right.

the only way that daybreak would even think of doing it is if they did a new account type that maybe cost $20 a month or such. so they make money form it each month

Christ almighty, that went right over head.

    Its not difficult economics.
  12. Rumblerum Augur

Listen, boxers probably don't always box, soloers don't always solo, but having two mercs, in my opinion, will indeed keep more people around, experiencing content and for longer and as result of this simple, immutable fact, more opportunities to experience the game as it was intended.

Having more people around--regardless of what was used to keep them here--will provide MORE opportunities to group, to raid, to do what was intended to be done. If we're not here, those opportunities will never come.

It's a simple stop-gap measure to entice us, provide some level of enjoyment while playing characters that don't always fit the healer/tanker duality while playing with one merc.

DB should also be asking why people box to begin with. The answer therein lies with the fundamental issue at hand.

    Firstly,

In my thread, I said a majority of the content was doable with 1 merc if you choose to molo it - not all of the content. Secondly, you and several people are putting out a false advertisement proclaiming groups are virtually non-existent. They are in fact very existent. They in fact exist all over the place.

This is what I see more often than not. People who cherry pick and then claim they can't find a group. In other words, if a group doesn't meet a certain personal quota of the individual LFG - then there are no groups according to that person. I have time after time seen someone lvl 92 LFG - they were offered a group by a player between 90-95, they wouldn't take the group because they want to roll with the 105s; OR, someone wants to hang with a certain clique of people; OR, someone doesn't want to do what others are already doing upon invite (quest wise) - so they will decline and say they can't find a group.

Its a personal issue, not a EverQuest or guild issue. This is no different than people complaining they can't get raid gear; well, go join a raiding guild and earn it then. High end content is grouping content which requires a group, not soloing content. Enslaver of Souls is a GROUP mission. That means, find yourself 6 people and work together to win; not 3 people w/ 3 mercs.

Not trying to beat my own drum, but we don't have grouping issues with my team. So, that narrows it down to one of two potential issues. Either it is a personal issue with whomever the complainant is, or bad leadership of whichever guild the person is in. I'm not judging, but I have been around long enough to know it is easy to narrow it down to one of those two factors.

The moral of the story, 2 mercs for 1 player is not going to solve any problems other than it will make it easier for AFK camp/botting, it will create a catalyst of anti-social behavior in what is suppose to be a social game, and it will eventually lead people wanting 3 mercs for 1 player because they figured they got away with 2 through a lot of whining.
  14. Kaliko Augur

You're the leader of a guild and make friends with everyone, no surprise there.... I've been lfg for days on my own toons for TBM stuff or DH Ha's and never once received any tells from anyone and im definitely not cherrypicking unless its with a tank who can't do their job(thats not a group, thats a major loss of xp wiping over and over to stupidity). And even the zones are empty literally outside of boxers or cliques/raid geared soloers. I didn't realize 105's afk killing a lvl 90 expansions content would kill the game with how rediculously easy xp is..... The fact is there is truly less people out there actually accomplishing anything and thus a 2nd merc would help someone molo efficiently( or maybe not because tank mercs are so terrible).

Are you on FV? If you are - contact me and I'd be glad to help you through the content - and that goes for anyone in this thread whether you are tagged with us or not. I enjoy helping people out and I am not trying to come off as snooty. I've been working non-stop to make people less dependent on mercenaries to encourage full 6 player groups. Its like trying to get someone off of drugs, not easy. Anyway, I do appreciate and understand your plight as well as others - and all I can offer is to let people know we are glad to invite those into our groups to help with progression and general content.

Could a dev change the name of this thread because it sounds too much like a porno title and brings to mind sick visions of two girls one cup......
  17. beryon Augur

This used to be way more common, but unfortunately, people like you are a dying breed. It's definitely way harder than it used to be to form groups to do progression missions. Yes, it's pretty easy to put a Gribble group together, but some people want to move on at some point; it's not really fair to call them picky.

I honestly don't know whether or not allowing 2 mercs would cause more problems than it solves, but that doesn't change the fact that forming groups to do something more than easymode xp grinding is becoming increasingly more difficult. While multiple mercs may not be the best solution, there *is* a real problem that will only get worse as the population dwindles.

And how many will quit? If they allow two mercs, then the next request will be to tune all content around 1 player + 2 mercs. This game has already become so rediculosuly easy, that if they do more to cater to the absolute minimum, I'd be bored to death. Chances are I would quit when they further trivialized the game. Others that I know likely would as well. There is so little challenge left to make the game enjoyable to those that actually want to play a game.

They've replaced clerics, by adding bad mercs that everyone complains about.
They've replace warriors by adding bad mercs that everyone complaints about.
They've replaced rogues by adding bad mercs nobody actually uses.
They've replaced wizards by adding bad mercs that everyone complaints about.

This is a multi-player game. Grab an actual player healer/tank/dps and be amazed at just how good they actually are compared to a merc.

I swear to god if anyone says get a group after the extent and breadth of what was posted in this thread by me, you are a moron as obviously you have read the entire thread. No one has answered the above yet. No one has given me a legitimate reason.
