that would be a merc though...to a large extent...dont get me wrong i understand what youre saying...im a villain so i want to steal all the gold from the central city bank...cause i like money but dont like working...but ill save the world if it means i keep getting to breath...and steal...to me thats a kind of merc thinking...big difference between that thinking and...lets hurt people so a demon can ultimately destroy our world and everyones souls...including yours. where is the profit motive for a thief or merc to do that?? youre right in there needed to be shades of morality and even a kind of alignment system...if you are a tech based thief the last thing you want is some unknowable magic blindsiding you whose power is superior to science
