Hello Heroes and Villains! We are excited today to announce the return of large content releases, update you on ongoing initiatives, and share some new features and events we are planning for this summer and the rest of the year.

Beyond sharing our plans, we are also looking for your thoughts and feedback, and we want to provide you ample opportunity to ask questions. Please use this thread to do just that.

    Now, on to the news!

    Announcing Large Content Releases

Let’s start today’s announcements off big. We have heard your feedback and your desire for larger, more spread out content releases, and that’s exactly what we are going to do starting with Episode 27.

We know (because you have told us) that it is more fun for everyone when more content drops at once. Monthly Episodes were a grand and ambitious concept, but one that has proven ultimately inferior to the larger content drops you prefer. Large releases will allow us to eliminate some of the complexity surrounding monthly progression, ease some of that pressure you feel to get to and stay at the bleeding edge, and allow you to enjoy your achievements longer. That said, we will maintain some of the recent improvements, including multiple, varied storylines per Episode and Elite versions of content. We are still moving forward with what we have learned.

In regard to timing, here’s what you need to know. Episode 25 launched last week for all players, Episode 26 will launch later this month as our final monthly Episode, and Episode 27 – our first new, large release – will launch towards the end of this year or the beginning of next. And yes, Episode 27 will be Amazon Fury Part III.

    Status of Current Initiatives

When we speak of change to one set of plans, the first questions are always about other plans that are already in motion, so let’s get those out of the way. Here’s an update on the status of our previous 2016 plans.

    Game Updates

First, be assured that regular Game Updates with fixes and features, seasonal events, and Survival Mode events will continue. The 2016 summer seasonal event is live now, and it will be followed by The Witching Hour and Season’s Greedings this fall and winter.

Crossplay, Xbox One, and 4th Color Option, and New Storylines

Check, check, check, and check! Crossplay between PC and PS was completed this past January, DCUO launched on Xbox One this April, and the 4th Color Option launched with Game Update 61 last month. Monthly Episodes have continued to deliver new storylines, and Episode 27 will continue with the conclusion of Amazon Fury.

#StatsMatter, Stats Revamp, and Removing CR Differential

Our plans to revamp stats and remove CR differential continue, and we expect to have both in place before Episode 27 launches.

    Midrange Balance

The midrange balance pass is also continuing as planned, and weapons are next, followed by the remaining four powers (Nature, Electricity, Sorcery, Earth). Powers will remain a topic at the forefront of our minds, always.

    Alternative Character Progression

We want to fundamentally improve how progression works in DCUO. In fact, our plans for progression have expanded since last we talked. You may see a taste of progression changes in Episode 27, but we are not quite ready to share more information and the majority of changes are no longer planned to launch this year.

    Water Powers

Water is still our next power, featuring Hydrokinetics and Tidecalling, and art and design work has been underway for some time. That said, Water depends on many of the other systems initiatives we have in the works, most significantly revamping stats, and we want to complete those prior to releasing Water. Water may or may not release this year.

    Style Unlocking

We still want players to be able to keep up alternate characters more easily, and expand the systems introduced with feat unlocking. However, while work continues, style unlocking is no longer expected to launch this year.

    League Tools

We have tabled additional league tools and changes in this realm at the concept phase, and may or may not return to them later on. We would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions on what would most impact you in your leagues day to day.

    Announcing New Initiatives

As we look ahead to the second half of the year and preparing for Episode 27, we have much we wish to accomplish and many new things we want to try. We will continue to work to improve the game and address your concerns. We are preparing to do so from many different angles, some of which we would like to share with you now.

New PvP Map and Gear Set: Suicide Squad

We plan to launch a new Suicide Squad-themed PvP map and gear set this August. The map will be Belle Reve, Amanda Waller’s prison facility, and the gear will be inspired by Deadshot. PvP is a vital component to the game, and one that we expect to continue to spend time on this year and beyond.

    Level 30 Missions

We plan to add new missions at level 30 to help guide players from pre-30 life to post-30 life in DCUO. The transition right now is overwhelming and needs to be better explained. This might not seem like something that applies directly to most of the advanced players reading this update, but it does in the number of your potential friends and fellow players that we lose every day at this transition.

    Early Leveling

Similarly, early leveling in the game can be overwhelming as side missions, travel, and tours sometimes confuse players. We’ll make some of these clearer and address content bugs in this pass. More players leveling beyond this introduction means a stronger game and community for everyone.

Skip Tutorial and Level 25 Auto Boost

Alternate characters are important, and one quick way to improve the adoption of alts is to make starting new characters quick and painless. Skip Tutorial (free feature) will allow players to jump directly into the leveling game without playing the tutorial, and the Level 25 Auto Boost (marketplace purchase) will allow players to jump directly to level 25, where they will be ready to finish off the final leveling missions and start running On Duty content with friends.

These are the new initiatives we are working on for the short term, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on each one.

    Announcing Open Episodes This Summer

Finally, we are incredibly excited to announce Open Episodes! Game Update 62 will introduce new functionality that will temporarily open Episode content to all players, albeit with extended loot lockout timers for players who are not members or who do not own the content.

Members and players that own the content will see no change (except for more people queuing for content), and will retain the standard loot lockout timers: 1 day for Solos, Duos, and Alerts, and 7 days for Raids. Players that do not own the content will see extended loot lockout timers: 1 day for Solos, 3 days for Duos, 7 days for Alerts, and 14 days for Raids. We will pay careful attention to feedback leading up to, during, and after this trial event.

This period of Open Episodes will begin with the launch of Game Update 62 later this summer, and last for about one month.

    Now It’s Your Turn

That’s a lot of news to digest, so let us again thank you for reading. We are standing by to answer your questions and consider your feedback.

    Hey Mepps, a question:
Maybe I am not seeing something that is supposed to make me feel happy about the news. But for me, I paid for a one year subscription and the way I see it, I get one more content update by the end of the month, and after that there won't be new content for me to run for like half a year.
Is that assumption correct? So did I basically waste the money on the Subscription, which was intended to let me play new content every month?

I am really happy that you guys took your time to leave us an official statement, I was missing communication from devs to all the players. I just do not feel like what you plan is fair to those who, like me, can not pause their subscription for the many months without new content ahead, but do not have the chance to enjoy the monthly content that we thought we paid for, either.

Thanks in advance for possible clarification.

    Best regards

This part worries me. Episode 26 comes out end of July/early August and Episode 27 wont be until the end of the year/early next year?

Basically a duo and raid to last 5 months. Last time you had such a lay off was between Sons of Trigon and Assault and Battery. How many people left and never came back?

I get that people want the change, but that is a very long time, especially during a time when new games will be coming out, to be out of the market with anything meaningful.

This is also what worries me, 3-6 months without content... I hope they find a way to entertain the players while they change it, i really don't want to see dcuo dying because of that.

Membership comes with a host of benefits, including access to all content. That won't change. We definitely recognize the gap between the last monthly and the first large episode is unfortunate. Based on player feedback and on what we have planned, we believe it is still the right thing to do, to transition back to large content releases.

okay different question and this is a good one with the new content course i'm talking about episode 27 coming out, how long do yall think it will be till the Next episode?

Since it will no longer be monthly content. i know before the monthly it was 3 months then it was monthly how long will it be this time around?

Great news! I've adapted to the monthly schedule, but the older, large release schedule always felt better to me. Having the old pace with the variety in content is the best of both worlds.

So things that were slated for this year are no longer on the plate. :(

I'm not sure what I'll be doing for the next 7 months. I'm excited for the return of a bigger content release, but now I will not have most of what I actually wanted to see change. All the while content will no longer be coming out monthly.

QUESTION: The free content open up, do the players get to keep the gear that drops from it? Like how utility belts lock when you are no longer a member. Does the gear that they acquire during that time count? Do they get the feats that come with it, like LPvE's new weekly cycle thing. They get a window of unlock.

QUESTION: Will there be a lock on the level 25 and skip option to alts only? Other games give an option to skip with money when you already played the game. Please say yes.

Will the large content releases be like the old ones where you aim (very important word, I know you can't make any guarantees and don't expect you to) to have four quarterly releases per year? Can we expect the equivalent of approximately three Episodes (in the current system) worth of content? There were some sparse DLCs in the past, but if Amazon Fury III follows suit with the amount of content in Amazon Fury II I'd be quite happy with that. AFII was, in my opinion, the best DLC we got in terms of amount of content and the mechanics that a lot of the content had.

    Questions:

Will we see New Styles in Solo and DUO content? Ever since the monthly content has happened, we've seen a slew of reused styles.
The most in Particular that drops form Solos and Duo's is Mayan..
Can we please get some new style drops instead of recycled ones for gear that drops in solos and duos?

Will Support Roles be able to Do solo and Duo content again?

Ever since the Monthly content cycle happened, I couldn't do Solo's unless I was a DPS. is this gonna change?

-Is there gonna be a guide to help Players get SP?
A lot of players are at end game, and Have Low SP.
If something isn't done about this, we'll see a large Split of End-game Players.

-Can we Expect Dailies to Return with Amazon Fury Part 3?

Ever since the last Game Update for PVP, Support roles have been left out in Favor of DPS. We only have DPS gear, and for a while DPS was the only role you could play in PVP.
So -Regarding PVP Will we see Support roles make a come back with Support role PVP Gear?

Good news that I can run all my toons through next month content later this month and next month and than take the rest of the year off as you work on making improvement to the game.

Hopefully by Episode 27 the issues I see with this game are fixed and if not, well I probably won't be back.

So we already sit 2 weeks with nothing to do, and here you want to make us wait 3-6 months...that's what killed wow...I really wish you would stop listening to all these elitist whiney children, and just keep doing you. My yearly ship is up in October, and if this gets stale, then I won't renew...3-6 months with nothing to do...you know 90% of your player base has no elite groups to take them through stuff, so most of the "real actual" player base will sit with months of nothing but the same solos, duos and 4 mans to do daily right....that little 10% is in cliques and is capable of running the elitist raids you are releasing now...I moved from 10 years of WOW to this game, cause it was so much easier, and now I find this games taking on the elitist mindset of wow players and devs....so very very disappointed.

It's the right thing to do, but it wont hold players to play. Dry spells are very painful for a paying customer. We are talking about 5-7 month gap. Nothing new to hold us. We understand you need to have time to build the content, but it's definitely painful to not have anything to do. And with the fact we still don't have alt options which got pushed back until next year. We are now in this limbo phase if we kept up with content as it was released.

On a personal note I am quite disappointed that Style unlocking (not bothered about gear unlocking, myself) and Water may or may not come this year, those are the two things I was looking forward to the most. I understand the reasoning for Water is that you want to have the stats system back in place before you release it though, and I guess putting the style and gear unlocking on the backburner is so you can devote your resources to bigger things.
