'When i was still playing' i met many people who claims that DCUO is one of the best games. That it is so brilliant, unique and irreplaceable. Edit:It sounded to me like:This game has been already passed to the Legend and can be easily compared in the rankings of popularity to the games like Dota 2. But how really does reality look like?

I personally agree with the fact that this game can't be replaced, but it also depends on how you understand that word. There is several meanings of word 'irreplaceable'.

In terms of irreplaceable because: There is no other game like DCUO. I agree!

DCUO has huge potential on a really large scale and it's a very big title at such games as Marvel Heroes, Injustice or Champions Online. The name itself gives a lot to think about. 'DC stuff and you know everything already'.But it turns out after you log in to the game.

Many times I've had situation where i met 'new players' in WT-Pvp phase who asked me:

'Why is this place so empty? Or Where did all these players are gone...?'

:D Yeeeeah... not hard to notice that DCU has cons. But well most of the time my answer was: 'Pvp...broken, not developed and boring so all the Pvp players left the game ages ago'.Unfortunately Pvp isn't Developed or even Fixed by very long time now.'That's one of qualities of the gameplay, and this game with such original title and big potential is presented in a light of: 'Pvp is broken and not developed because... it doesn't bring money'. Can't hide that all DCUO does right now is one big focus on money.

God this must be like a hit below the belt for someone who is new to the game and hear/see this. I mean you enter to the game... 'MMO with DC characters' which is 'Free To Play'... So you expect some really good quality of the gameplay with big population around, but after you play a bit you see so many odd things. This scarey away and also this is one of the reasons why DCUO is lacking of new players and why there is more end gamers.'Anyway not going to mention all the pros and cons here, because we all know what they are and me myself not going to stop anyone from self-destruction'.DCU is a great title but it's presented in a really ugly way. As a long term player i'm not smiling to this state and its direction that is heading. Anyway i'm here just to ask question to all those players who keep saying that DCU is so healthy.

How would you really compare today's DCUO to other games?

I would say that it is doing pretty good in comparison to most games. I mean 6-7 years is a pretty good run no matter what. Especially during this season right now there will be a ton of new games released so that the kiddies can get them for Christmas for top dollar. It is exactly why every Call Of Duty and WWE game releases around late November. So that the parents will pay that full price for it. So naturally that is going to always be a season that hurts the game. Not just this game. Every online game. I put 3+ years into Grand Theft Auto 5 Online. We would always see a population drop around this time of year, but right after Xmas it increases because other people got a PS4 or the game for Xmas. In fact GTA was downright dead before Xmas last year, and as soon as the holiday passed the population was rebuilt by a brand new army of players. I am guessing that some of those will find their way to DCUO as well. Thus far it seems to have been that way with everything I've played online. Keep in mind that Destiny 2 was just released. I have never played one of those games but that is all I hear people talking about at my work. From what I have heard about it there are some similarities.

Having said that, I don't think that PVP really has any bearing on the game. Thus far I have only met one guy who really liked PVP, and truthfully he was just an idiot anyway. The fact is that PVP may be broken but it also is not very fun for anyone who is new. This game has no matchmaking system in place. So they will throw someone brand new in there with someone who does nothing but play PVP. That is the equivalent of you just getting GTA Online and getting put into a death match against my level 804 character. It wouldn't be too fun after awhile. Just like with the PVP phase or something like the Diamond Heist. Anyone with PVP gear will be untouchable. So all a new player can do is take dozens of beat downs until they can buy gear? Not a great system. And as far as the Diamond Heist goes. Well go out and try to do that as a villain. For whatever reason it seems like heroes are weaker. Every single time I have done those open world PVP events it goes one of two ways. There is either no one doing it or you are up against heroes that have to stack the odds 4 vs 1 just to keep you occupied long enough for someone else to run the objective in the background.

From what I have heard about PVP it sounds like basically it was a big deal when it was new. That is how anything is when it is new though. Right now everyone is running Riddled With Crime. Years from now (Pretend the game goes on for another 6 years) it would be the same way with this. There is nothing new going on there. So for people who have completed it there really is not much incentive. For those who have not completed it there are 1000 other options on how to progress. I have personally put PVP off as much as possible. There is nothing fun about fighting someone who you can inspect and see has put tons of time into it, and then getting trash talked and put down afterwards like it was some big accomplishment. Again, I use the GTA analogy. That would be like me killing a level 1 and then acting like that made me so amazing. Sure he only has a pistol and I have pretty much an entire military at my disposal, but hey, I am the best there ever was!

The true problem with the game is that it is advertised as free to play, but in the end it really is anything but that. I brought one of my GTA crew members from Germany to this game. This guy is a legend on GTA as the grind king. He can run the same thing all day long, and he somehow is online seemingly 24/7. I still haven't figured out how he sleeps. He made it up to level 30 in the game and then finds out that he is blocked from receiving the Playstation trophy because.... He didn't pay for the game. It is not free to play. It is free to download, and pretty much it is just bait that will hopefully get a player to bite and start spending. Nothing is going to change with that though. I pay my membership and I have often bought them for other league members of mine. Several times actually. Yet even I think it is terrible how they lock the player's cash down. $2000 a day is impossible to work with. Then we have the fact that basically a player can only get so far before they are entirely cut off from progression. You will have to pay at some point or be stuck behind that paywall. That is absolute trash. The smartest thing they could do is actually let people get into the game before they pull back the curtain and reveal that it is not really free. Let them get to 100+ CR. I know at that point I would have been less likely to walk away.

I'm speaking as someone who regretfully tried to play this game 2 previous times. The first was when it initially released in 2011. I thought it was an awesome game until I got lost in the Hall Of Doom. I absolutely could not find my way out. I couldn't figure out how to type in the chat, and even when I did it was probably just "Say" instead of shout or anything useful. The problem is that they do not teach the players anything. We get a mentor who barely even speaks to us, and a tutorial that barely teaches us anything. That entire system is what needed revamped. The second time was the exact same thing. I did not understand how to read the map so I couldn't determine that I was on the wrong level or whatever in the Hall Of Doom. After running around for 40 minutes to an hour, it was just enough to get me to log out and return to GTA. A few weeks passes and the game gets kicked off my hard drive. The only reason I managed to stick around this time was because I brought friends with me who were new. So that got me to push through it.

The sad truth is that it does not seem like retaining new players is a priority. It seems like the priority is to stay profitable by any means necessary. There are a lot of things that need to be dealt with but it probably will not happen. It sucks but we do not really have a ton of choices except to keep moving on or leave ourselves. I'm sticking it out as long as I can. Believe that!

if other developers were smart they could easily shut dcuo down ;)

like marvel for example, they could shut dcuo down for good, or hurt them to the point of no return. If they made a MMO with custom characters you were able to create like dcuo.

I'll wait til 2018 / 2019 til games come out on ps4 and possibly ps5 drops and see how it turns out game wise, if there still isn't anything to pull me away for good I'll be here. here's to hoping for something better ;)

it lacks funds to actually shine, or a development team (more investment team) that actually cares about the game more then profits.

quality brings profits IMO. Make something ppl enjoy and wanna continue to play and they will spend $$$ willingly without sneaky fine print tactics tied to everything.

In what other game can you pretty much create any super-hero you want and fly around as high as you wish in most maps and meet Batman... Superman.... and many other DC characters??

Just flying.... no other game allows you to fly like DCUO does.....
except maybe Champions.... and darn I hated that game when I tried it.
heck the "flying" in Marvel Heroes is almost insulting how you just hover inches above the ground.

Right now..... no other game really offers what DCUO does.

You want to play as Batman??? No problem.

Heck you can even make different versions of Batman if you want to.

You want to play as Wolverine?? No problem.

You want to play as the Phantom... Spawn..... Iron-man...... Spider-man????
    No problem.

Next time someone asks you that question.... tell them to go to the PvE Phase. That is where the players are.

Eons ago... when DCUO was a young game..... only about 20% of the player base ever played any PvP.
    ANY PVP.

So even at the PEEK of DCUO.... you would find at best only 20% of the player base on the PvP server.

But then.... at some point in time..... they removed the option to create a character on the PvP server.
Now by default.... EVERYONE creates their characters on the PvE server.
Only a hanfull of crazy Mutants.... like me..... switches to the PvP server as soon as we exit the Brainiac ship.

That is why the PvP Phase is so empty.

PvE... That is where all these players are gone.

Sadly.... even me who prefer to play on the PvP server HAS to switch to PvE more often then not.

You want to join a group to do any Bounties?? You have to switch to PvE.

You want to join a group to do the 333.... 410..... 411??? You have to switch to PvE.

Heck.... pretty much any group you want to join..... you have to switch to PvE.

Why?? Because that is where the groups playing such missions are.

So..... that is why the PvP server is empty.... pretty much everyone playing DCUO is on the PvE server.

Op, you compare DCUO to the rankings of Dota2 which has over 470k players averaging daily for the last 30 days? This game is a legend in its own right.

If you're playing this game for popularity than you're in the wrong mind set. Play this game for the sake of your own entertainment and don't worry about other games.

I played and love DCUO from 2011 up till 2015 and thank it for all the great memories it gave me. Game changed and I changed. It was a mutual disagreement and we went on different paths.

The game isn't dying, it has new people trying it out daily and from young to old. Heck, my 12-18yr old niece and nephews play this game.

This game knows its playerbase and how to court it. From the whales and spontaneous spenders down to the RP, nickle and dime-ing it groups. It definitely walks a fine line in maintaining its balance, nice job mepps.

Again, enjoy the game and many flavors it has to offer you.

clearly dated compared to newer games but not as bad as other free to play and even purchased/subscription based games.

i think our avatars look cooler. movement is faster, more fluid. combat in this game is, or at least was fun. again fast and fluid. i remember reading complaints early on calling this gamethe "fischer price of mmos" but theres something to be said for perfect simplicity. i don't know about video game design but in design in general the easiest looking things tend to be the most difficult to pull off. harder to hide flaws.

overall i've been shopping around to see what else is out thre to pique my interest. i might resub for a month with earth 3 but even thatmight notdo it.

don't really like what i see out there.its very much all the same. unless its an old school console type game that requires no internet connection games today require large investments of time and money for what i'm deeming as very little value. i would have given the marvel game a try.its a free download...but when i saw the prices attached to the various character packs i decided to be a smart shopperand i turned my ps4 off.

We have 2017, maybe in 2011 that was something really cool, but today It does not really impress anyone.
Just question what dcuo really offers?

    • Repetitive pve content with massive amount of grinding for which yet i need to pay for? Llike same stuff, just different day? No ty i'm a human.
    • Exclusive Cosmetics in Time Capsules. instead to Maket? No ty, If I wanted to play game machine, i would go to the Casino and spend money there.
    • This broken and worthless pvp where you play all over again the same maps and legends characters while gaining all the time x200 MOV?xd no ty.
For me DCUO currently is in unplayable state, just honest opinion here. On every step, everywhere i looked at was p2w and glitches...

Well the other mmos I play are all sub based or required you to buy the game first, so I don't know any other f2p mmos to compare it out there besides warframe.

For the type of game it was back then, theres a reason Dcuo was named as one of the top f2p games to play. But since then(2014- onward) things started going downhill. Right now as a f2p, it is solid, but when you start comparing it to all other mmos, it is below average.

Mainly the responsibility comes from the development and management itself. I can make a list of all the flaws that dcuo done from 2014 to now, and trust me when I say that the negatives out weigh any positives that someone tries to come up with. But what hypocrite would I be if i judge the game base off its past alone.

The stats revamp(which is completed so enough of the "its too early to judge" or "we're still in stats revamp phases" bs), is a new beginning for dcuo and so far it is half *****, but still have potential. So far the only people thats still around are those who are true fans of dc and those who can't part away because of the amount of money spent. Also, development seems to be thinking in a state where, they know the population they have left so they're adjusting according to that, rather then taking a risk for the better improvement of the game.

Artifacts is one of those good risks, for the betterment of the game, so I hope they knock that out of the park. They need to fix pvp, for the state it is in is the lowest word that synonym involves anything negative. Bring quality content, which they CAN make. Real update improvements to powers and roles.

If dcuo can do that, then we might have ourselves a game here. Also PvP was a huge part of this game. Some of the greatest youtubers for dcuo, were pvpers and brought in some of the crowd that you forumers might dislike, but they came just for pvp. So don't get it twisted from some of these posts above thats stating that pvp had nothing to do with the success or revenue of the game, or it had little to no involvement.

I started playing a little time ago, the game is good, i just don't understand why we have to pay for everything, we have to pay a sub or dlc and styles, most of the games i play don't require me to spend anything except for cosmetics, i love it because i love dc comics, but a free to play game could have more free to play things. idk how the game was in past, but sometimes it takes 3-4 hours to get in a 8 player mission. I would compare it like: We have superman, how many other games you have and can be superman? But how many games you have to pay so much? Maybe we could have a more cosmetic selling system instead of dlcs and gear? idk.

Think of any any character in the DCUO universe, any npc. Imagine if you could look exactly like them, while mixing and matching pieces and weapons? In CO, you can do just that.

Imagine how much better DCUO could be if player could look like a Killer Croc in lantern gear, or have Lex Luthor's suit, maybe look like one of those alien Lanterns with Starfire's hair, or King Shark in a tuxedo?

PC players will always come back to CO, because DCU makes sure they will...CO is closer to CoX, what PC players considered one of the best mmo ever; definitely the best superhero mmo in their book.

Other than that CO, Marvel, nor DCU CANNOT compete with WoW, ESO, etc. DCU and CO are comparable, but CO is much deeper. DCU and Marvel are comparable, but DCU is much deeper.

I took so many beat downs in PVP that I said I hated it everyday that I went back for more punishment.
I refuse to wear PVE styles on one character because I worked so long to get my PVP gear & PVP styles.

Believe me....Right now PVP is 100 times better than it was after the Milkman FUBAR'd PVP IN 2014/2015. The one shot spam fest was not fun AT ALL. IT WAS A TOTAL NIGHTMARE, The name of the game was who gets the first click to register.

That's what others & I have been saying about DCUO being advertised as a Free to Play game and it not really being a Free to Play game at all. If Jack Emmert did not take over as CEO I bet DCUO would be closing the doors soon. If I am not mistaken. I think Nerd said something a few months back about the number of players playing DCUO during the Starro event being some of the highest numbers they have had in a long time.

DCUO doesn't have a huge amount of customization options such as Champions Online, but it does have a better endgame and a less terrible grinding.

    DCUO 1 x 0 CO

DCUO doesn't allow you to focus on specific attritubes as to make better character customization.

    DCUO 1 x 1 CO

Conversely, your chances of permanently ruining your character and having to continuously retrain your character for ludicrous amount of in-game currency are pratically zero

    DCUO 2 x 1 CO

DCUO requires you to depend on teams just too much, while in CO you can play adventure packs alone and, if not, you can still carry your team if you have enough ability.

    DCUO 2 x 2 CO

DCUO has always new content, even if many people get bored of it, but at least you can continuosly strenghten your character, meaning endless progression.

    DCUO 3 x 2 CO

DCUO allows for powerset combinations, but CO allows you to combine any powers of any powersets, inducing more versatily.

    DCUO 3 x 3 CO

DCUO allows you to continuously remain in your base, even if you need to craft, fix, buy stuff or read mail, while CO kinda forces you out.

    DCUO 4 x 3 CO

DCUO has more players. CO averages 80 players online.

    DCUO 5 x 3 CO

    Last, but not least.

    DCUO has Wallachia.

    DCUO 1458 x 3 CO.

Before was much different, it was pvp phase where most of the players was ... i remember like it was yesterday everyone was dueling in pvp phase and had its own spot reserved while waiting for another pop, for me and i'm sure for most of players it was such a good thing to kill time, pvp phase was in some way of entertaining. Today it is a ghost town and it lowers the quality and overall view of this game drastically by new players believe it or not. Today in character creation there is only one server - pve why? because this is what the game wants from you, to play pve it is a main thing of this game right now everything focus on ''profit''.

While pvp is broken and not developed it will make most players jump on to pve or leave the game and that's devs logic. I don't know how other people but me i just can't play pve all the time all over again because it is boring, after i left i stuck on 203cr and sometimes you want try something else, something new because this is how we players are we like to discover/taste new things. In current pvp state you can't have fun... if you enjoy pvp in its current state there must be something really wrong with you. It's unplayable lol You're just simply forced to play pve. And when beginners ask me where all people are or why is pvp phase empty sometimes i just do not wan't replay to not discourage people from playing the game.
