I'll cut to the chase, you can shoot throught unrendered base shields. Most noticeable with flying vehicles, apparently ground objects (also happens with stuff like vehicle ammo tower) have a lower render priority when flying than when on the ground. Problem with that is vehicles render from a lot further than shields, meaning it's possible to shoot at vehicles that should normally be protected. The whole render distance/number limit is already quite ridiculous from my point of view but this seems like a terrible oversight.
