Sunderers Spam

Is it just me or are people only using Sunderers? Every tetime I use a vehicle terminal, all I see is Sunderer after Sunderer lined up, bumping nose into *** trying to get out of auto-forward. I don't know what lead up to this mass hysteria of obsession with Sunderers but it really affects combat, and negatively. We don't need 7 Sunderers, we need more Vanguards because some r-**** pulled a Prowler zerg. In my opinion, the best way to solve this would be to reduce the reward for spawning players but that would be a horrible idea. Does anyone have any ideas as to decrease this obsession with Sunderers? And remember, as the Tell-Tale Heart tells us, obsession can be deadly.

You pull AV or tanks and you enjoy the "Sunderer Spam".

Also more spawn options is good in field if your attacking something.

But do we really need so many Sunderers that they are pushing and shoving each other like moshers trying to grab James Hetfield's feet? It's commonplace to see at least 5 Sunderers go without any escort, deploy in the middle of the road, and blow up a few minutes later. Don't you think there should be some kind of AMS directive in Basic Training? I don't want to see Sunderers flop onto a base like Cthulhu flopped onto the beach and then just blow up.

Well, Cthulhu ran into a steamship, so it's entirely understandable.

lol, yeh we do that sometimes to.
Then they just line up to get buttered by mags and vanguards.

It is funny to watch them roll off the vehicle spawn and get jammed up tho!
Less funny bit is if you get caught on foot when they start moving and bouncing off each other. There is a lot of friendly road kill left lying about for whatever carniverous scavengers there is on auraxis.
  6. Crayv

Better to have too many than too few.

I remember when you would see a base surrounded by 20 tanks and couldn't be capped because no one pulled a sundy.

Can hope they learn eventually or pull a tank and try to protect them the best you can.
  7. SQPD

Maybe we can implement the old first time spawn system back, where you would watch a briefing before drop podding for your first time. This time it should cover basic infantry, air, and vehicle gameplay.

Inb4 Cthulhu comes to Forumside to make a thread wanting Steamships nerfed.
  9. LodeTria

They are the most vital thing for infantry to cap a base. Infantry also have the least use of nanites so spawning a cheap, 200 nanite bus that could win you the fight is a no brainier and because it's so cheap unless it's the last sunderer then no-one cares if it blows up.
  10. SQPD

And when all of them blow up, everyone cares. No gunners to tickle the enemy defenses, no tank escort to suppress the enemy. And they're driving as slow as a Greyhound bus on the Buffalo-Canada border. When 5 Sunderers crawl towards a base without any form of defense, they're just like feral pigs, something you need to police rather than worry about. Now try not worrying about two Sunderers and three Vanguards.
  11. Littleman

What ticks me off most is how poorly equipped most of these sunderers are. They lack composite armor or shielding, yet insist on deploying only to be instant C4 bait. They always seem to pack a bulldog or some other short range grenade launcher which is totally ineffective against even mildly competent hostiles. If they don't, they're stock basilisks - a weapon that in itself isn't bad, but it can burn through 500 rounds pretty damn quick.

A stock Sunderer with a single Fury gunner can wreck an AP Lightning with 50% health left, I believe.
  13. Scr1nRusher

Because for SOME REASON Tank Cannons suck against sunderers.
  14. Littleman

If it's just a single lightning, basilisks will do too. If it's a bunch, nothing the Sunderer brings will save it. Build for AI or AA primarily, and trust the dudes spawning at the sunderer to take on a column of tanks. And a lightning that has to get that close is either doing it wrong, or that sunderer is wedged into a crevice real tight.
  15. ColonelChingles

    1) Sunderers have too much HP. A Sunderer is some silly MRAP:

Which while mine and explosive resistant to most things that infantry carry, would be helpless against tank cannon. A single tank shell ought to be able to wreck a Sunderer. Instead, a Sunderer boasts the same HP as an MBT and more HP than a Lightning.

    2) Sunderers have too much armour. A Sunderer resists 45% of all damage to the rear, while an MBT only resists 30% damage. While the weak point of the MBT is the rear, surely that would still be better armoured than a Sunderer.

    3) Sunderers have too much resistance. MBTs take an extra 13-15% damage from AP shells, while a Lightning soaks up an extra 20%. Sunderers? They take 28% less damage from AP, which is a 48% improvement over Lightnings!

    4) 20mm Basilisk, 40mm Furies, and 60mm Bulldogs do too much damage to tanks. The 20mm Basilisk is an HMG, and most tanks are resistant to HMG fire completely. A 40mm grenade (which by PS2 standards would be significantly weaker) wouldn't do much at all to an MBT. 60mm mortars might cause some light damage to an MBT, but certainly not as much as they do now.

    How to fix this?
Set Sunderer HP to 3,000, the same as a Lightning.
Reduce Sunderer directional armour to 25%.
Adjust Sunderer weapon type resistance so that they are inferior to a Lightning against vehicles, but superior to an MBT against infantry.
Make Basilisks do no damage to heavy armour and reduced damage to Lightnings.
Make Furies do no damage to heavy armour.
Make Bulldogs do reduced damage to heavy armour.

That'd make newbie tanks and harassers even worse than they are now.

Don't mind Chingles, he wants realism in a computer game.

Not like current Basilisks on a Harasser or a MBT are that great against MBTs as they currently exist. They would still have a significant anti-infantry role, and to top it off they would be more effective against the nerfed Sunderers to boot.

On the flipside, I want vehicles in a combined arms game.
  19. Iridar51

Doesn't have to be through realism. "Oh you took a 0.002 cm wrong turn, enjoy your oneshot and 2 hour respawn"
  20. Taemien

Reason you see Sunderers is because they're available everywhere.

I personally think Sunderers, Lightnings, and Harassers should have different terminals and those terminals aren't available at all bases. Allow small bases to only spawn harassers and flashes. Large bases with vehicle terminals can spawn Sunderers, Harassers, and Flashes, Large bases with tank terminals can spawn Lightnings only without TechPlant buff.

    There's your fix.

I dunno how the hell some of you are having issues in Lightnings against even dual fury Sundies. Perhaps if some ticked off HA's got out and locked on all at once. But not the sundy itself. I think some of you think that just because the Sunderer has wheels and you have treads that you can ram it. Don't ram it, and use your weapons' superior range.

Even with a default Viper you're going to win. AP and its GG.
