[Suggestion] Stop building bases surrounded by high terrain

I see a lot of people mad because of lack of defense, yet I see hardly anyone commenting about bases outposts and towers being surrounded by higher terrain negating what little defensive structure we do have. Half the time base defenses are a liability to the defenders and help an attacking team. Why would you build a wall around a base to protect from shelling when there are hills attackers can use to shoot down into the court yards? Why would you put an AV turret on a wall facing a hill with a rock to the left and a tree to the right? Why would you expose AA turrets to every outside threat when you could put them somewhere defensible?

    Discuss.

Been brought up since beta, considered a given. Also why Amerish has more bases on high ground (too few and too inconsistently).
  3. Daedrick

base design is pure bull poop and so is base placement, we have been hammering that since alpha yet they arent bright enough to hire an an architec.
  4. KraggTheGrim

This problem has been around since PS 1. Base placement has always been horrible, although the bases in PS 1 were at least defensible.

    This ^
Not so much "they aren't bright enough" but the devs refuse to change it as changing bases involves a LOT more work than coding.
They are fools since they think that it won't be worth the work .
They think that it'll do little to impact generated revenue, and SOE only cares about the money.

Some bases are meant to be defensible (The infamous Crown).
However, far TOO many are easily infiltrated and easily capped.

    Honestly, PS2 phucked up.
    • No metagame.
    • Very little effort on defense.
    • P2W and OP vehicle weapons.
    • Infantry farming
    • Spawn camping
    • EXTREMELY bad base design
    • F2P = Noobs playing a teambased tactical game.
The list goes on and on.

The crown wasn't even intended, it was an accident. There is basicly only one effective way in for vehicules and it is so high in the sky that air have difficulty getting close undetected. They are way too oblivious to have intented that it would create such a farm.

Oh god, so this. So very much this. I've also been in an AV turret at a tower (can't remember which) that was down in a valley and had a big hill in front of it so it couldn't even shoot forward. To top it off, the road that's in front of that turret leading up to the tower is comes down one of the hills, and the turret doesn't have the vertical angle to actually shoot at it, yet tanks can easily shoot the turret. It's completely worthless.

This would also be amazing. Instead of having AA perched up high on the outside edges of a base, why not put them someplace further in? You know, where tanks can't just easily snipe them? I've seen ESFs and Libs take out turrets with no problems, so it's not like making AA more defensible would make them completely OP.

Overall this game needs a lot more defense to make bases harder nuts to crack and to make them more secure from the 3 man chuckle team that comes in to play a game of cat-and-mouse by taking down generators just to be annoying.

Some of the bases are more salvageable then others. Even with higher vantage points on the flanks.

    - Quartz Ridge, the south gate AV guns can't see well up the road due to placement. Easily fixed if the AV guns were moved towards the middle so they could see up the road.

    - Gates that can be easily driven around. Solution there is to place things like additional rocks, or vehicle barriers, or wall sections, or whatever. Just like they changed things around inside the Tech Plant to keep you from getting a Sunderer up inside by the generator.
  9. Dovahkiin

And then they phucked it up by relocating the generator.

We have no hope at all :(

Yup, some turrets are basically useless since they can't angel either high enough, low enough or have some obstacle like a tree in the way.

You can't shoot the sunder sitting right under your AV turret because a tree is in the way. Really helpful.

There are 2 bases in the middle of Amerish. No way to land zerg it really. They sit high and mighty. They are so much like The Crown. But no one bothers defending them. I've seen fights in Amerish, but not at these The Crown-likes.
