I have had this problem for a long time now. Don't know when exactly it started happening, but it never used to be the case. I know other people are having it too. Put simply, patches are taking an absurd amount of time to download and install. We're talking 15 minutes to do 1% (timed it). Not only downloading, but even installing. Today for example, I arrive 1 hour early to take part in the Server Smash match. Log on and have to download what I assume is a tiny hotfix for the most recent update (which probably took about an hour to download last night). Half an hour later and something like 20% into the install, I'm thinking I'm not going to make it in time and will have to pull out of the match. Just then the launcher wakes up and completes the install immediately. Any suggestions outside of reinstalling the game (which I will probably resort to eventually)?
