NC Max slug ammo?

I like to know if the NC Max slug ammo is good?

It's great if you tap fire them, but I would not recommend going full-auto with it. It's quite a cert investment, but makes your shotguns wayyy more versatile.

Haven't used them myself but I'd say get mattocks for them since they're the "high accuracy" AI gun.

Slugs are best used on Mattocks as they have the biggest range and tightest cone of fire / pellet spread of all NC MAX shotguns.

Biggest downside: Slugs in general have a terribly random cone of fire.

Slugs can be awesome (killing planetmans 50m+ away) or totally bad (not being able to hit the guy strafing 10m in front of you), depending on how many lambs you sacrificed to our lord and saviour, RNGesus.

Standing still and crouching pleases RNGesus (and can at the same time really **** you up, but that isn´t of RNGesus´ concern).

Using slugs also reduces your damage output up close, both DPS and damage per mag, most notably against other MAXes who will just eat you for lunch.

I would suggest trying out slugs in VR to get a better picture for yourself before purchasing them, because it´s quite costly.

    Best regards.

i'm not a fan of slugs, they're too innacurate, you can aim directly at the target and hit nothing (unless you're crouched and stationary, in which case its christmas for the c4 fairies...)
for "across the room" fights i prefer to use mattocks without slugs.

    i'd say no to slugs,
for cqc use any of the shotguns you like,
for mid range use unslugged mattocks,
for long range (outdoors) use ravens.

    He mostly covers it.

Just want to add that MAX shotguns have twice the bloom of infantry shotguns and without a way to aim down sights a MAX will never be free of COF RNG.

Sitting and not moving makes you COF 1 for a MAX. ADS with an infantry shotgun and the COF is .1. So at their best a MAX with slugs is 10 times more inaccurate than infantry with slugs. And while standing/moving a MAX isn't much better as there is still no option to ADS to cut the COF in more than half (COF of 2 down to .9).

Add that with MAXes having twice the bloom and you are even more inaccurate but with another added downside. MAXes don't have a Crosshair to show COF. So without mastering a shotguns COF, bloom, and COF reset times, you never know what your COF is at that moment leading to mistakes and wasted time.

Slugs are just not worth it. They also make it 99% impossible to fight other MAXes as they need 14 headshots to kill a stock BR1 MAX, or 20ish in the chest. Add Kinetic Armor even just rank 1..... A MAX that can't fight MAXes is worthless.

    It depends what you mean.

Do they give you a bit more effective range? Yes. Will they give you a lot more effective range? No.

Essentially slugs trade close up kill power for maybe another 10-15m of effective range followed by an ever increasing reliance on the RNG.

For example, at 50m with Mattock (which really are the only ones worth taking slugs on) + slugs (and perfect accuracy) you can still hit with all shots, if you are lucky, and have quite a low TTK, but equally you can (and will sometime) miss with 2x mags from both arms and have a ridculously high TTK, sometimes you will fire 2x mags, reload and fire another 2x mags and still not kill the infantryman you had perfect accuracy on at that range, with a Blueshift they'd have been long dead.

So they are no panacea, the best way to think of them is if you had them on an infantry shotgun, but couldn't ADS with them and only could hip-fire - they are basically that good/bad/whatever.

Only for the longer range lower spread guns.

    Mattocks = Slugs

I leave the rest as buck.
  9. Corezer

No, if you need us to tell you, it means you haven't played buck long enough to learn when/where/how to apply slugs, and will just end up a wildly ineffective full time dual mattock/slug max... Continue learning how to properly use NC max before stepping into specialist territory.

    Crawl before you walk...

I was just asking for other players opinion.

Also now I know, to use slugs for the mattocks and not for other MAX unit shotguns.

It good to ask around and not waste certs where it is not needed.

If I started now, I could kill something at 50m with my Mutilators by maybe next thursday, but only if it was tied in place.

And I, for one, prefer to use AV grenades (or equivalent) when I face a MAX with a MAX. But why use that when you can roll the dice on 80-90% resistance to your bullets?
  12. Goretzu

Mutilators can actually fire till next thursday before they need to reload. :p That's their power, sheer uninterupted volume over accuracy.

To be honest though TR-wise the best general AI option is probably Pounders, once you get accurate with them and can judge their drop they are great at AI close and mid-range, useable at AI at long (MAX) range and still decent at AV, they are quite similar to Falcon 1.0's and they were lethal.
