Access to dropable bombs, like the way WW2 fighters, B52's and modern day bombers can :)

Or like the way Liberators did it in first Planetside.
  3. Transitionals

Or C4 + Valkyrie upon its release :)

I think it's already in game and called a Dalton....

The Dalton is a mounted artillery gun, not a bomb launcher, closest thing we have is the rapid fire volley the duster has to offer but that's not a bomb launcher, just a rapid fire artillery gun.

What would be awesome is a bomb bay as seen on all the bombers in the video, maybe make it a replacement for the nose primary on Liberators or add a new bomber vehicle to the game.

    Bomb rack, you mean.

Nonetheless, I have a bit of an additional concept for you. Why not, instead of liberators, a bomb-kit for ESF's? It replaces the nose gun AND the secondary. Here's how it would work.

Replace the secondary with a bomb rack. It works in a simple manner: it is a high-capacity, underslung bomb rack with up-gradable capacity. Think something like the F111 Aardvark bomber.

Each upgrade would add another duo of racks, increasing bombs by different variables according to type. Holding down the "fire" button will constantly drop bombs at a rate of around 70-90 rpm, until you've dropped all your bombs. You can pick from three different types of bombs.

HE - 3 PER RACK - Simple, exploding bombs. Disorient armor targets but don't damage anything armored besides flashes and Harassers. Good damage versus infantry. Very fast RoF.

HEAT CLUSTER - 2 PER RACK - Explodes into a massive cluster of 5-7 explosives, that deal minor damage to infantry and all armored vehicles. A single run will rarely outright kill anything, including infantry, but will damage a large area. Good RoF.

EMP - 1 PER RACK - Damages ONLY base shields (not HA shield) and shuts down vehicle HUDS and slows them 33%. Good blast radius, but very low drop RoF.

DIVE BOMB - 2 PER RACK - High damage, but very, very low blast radius. Very, very inaccurate unless dropped in a steep nosedive. Cannot be dropped at low speeds or while idle. If dropped in a nosedive, extremely accurate. Fairly fast RoF.

LASER-GUIDED F&F BOMB - 1 PER RACK - Medium damage, low blast radius, moderate guidance systems that points it towards the closest spotted enemy. Not always accurate, only moderate guidance, must be launched vaguely at target. Very, very slow RoF. Slow enough to require multiple passes.

SMOKE - 4 PER RACK - Drops massive radius smoke bombs at a very low RoF, but constant dropping will create a line of smoke. Guided missiles that go through smoke have a 50% chance of losing guidance. Doesn't include the Phoenix (television guided, smoke would do enough) or the Engineer turret. Friendlies within smoke cannot be "spotted and marked" by enemies; any currently marked will have the mark removed. Absolutely no damage.

However, there's one big kicker: you can't traditionally reload the racks. In order to reload, you need to fly ALL THE WAY BACK TO A REARMING STATION, you know, those things at the warpgate and tower. You go out for one bombing run, and go home.

Bomb rack / mounted bomb systems is cool and very feasible for how they do ESF secondaries now, although the idea was more focused on the idea of a bomb bay or whatever you want to call the area of the plane where the bombs are to be released, the doors opening up and bombs just raining with a pitch reducing whistle noise would be a nice effect.

The liberator seems like a logical vehicle to offer something like this.

i would be okay with two different forms of this:

if it is one big bomb then the aircraft is slowed down by the weight of it until the bomb is dropped, max speed, acceleration the whole bit, and they can only carry one or two at a time just like IRL.

yes during WW2 the russians mounted small dive bombers onto larger bombers because the bombs the dive bombers carried were too heavy for the dive bombers to actually take off and fly with.

or if they were something like PTABs which are basically larger numbers of small hand grenade like explosives that are ideal for destroying large groups of anything that is unarmored.

Liberator and ESF updates have already been done and I doubt SOE is going to make the galaxy more offensive capable.

    bye bye Zerg. :)

They both have the same effect. A bomb bay is generally, in modern times, for sleek aircraft, like the F117 Nighthawk and F-22 Raptor. Bomb bays are much more complicated and expensive.

I mean, duh though. Bomb racks are literally bombs strapped to hydraulic releases. :p

Either way, it would work. Maybe both, but the Liberator Bomb Bay would decrease speed, be less accurate, but have a larger capacity.

Actually, the Galaxy would make a lot of sense. You could shove a lot of bombs instead of troops in that.

Once the Valkyrie is in effect, the people in the rumble seats will be able to drop C4 and grenades a la WW1 biplanes....
    there's your bombers right there....

we have WW1 bombing technology to go along with our WW1 flight speeds! at least it will be consistent.
